I wanted to try a waterproof mascara as I often go swimming after work and didn't want to have to remember to take my make up off before hand - neither did I want to look like a panda. I love body shop products in general but didn't expect them to do waterproof mascara for some reason, however, I was pleased to find that they do. The price is £10 for 8ml, only available in black, but that is fine as that is the colour I wanted. It comes in a stylish bright blue tube with black swirls up the sides and a silver top. The brush is quite a lot thinner than other mascaras I have used and doesn't seem to pick up a lot of mascara, but when I brushed it onto my lashes there was actually plenty on it. I find it is ok as mascara - not the best I have used but then I don't think any waterproof mascara gives you much volume. My lashes looked longer and a bit thicker, and they had plenty of colour. It was fine for daytime use but I would personally not use it for going out in the evening. It didn't add any volume or curl. I am always a bit dubious about swimming with a waterproof mascara for the first time, wondering just how waterproof it really is - but this was brilliant. It didn't smudge at all and didn't come off in the shower afterwards either. The only drawback with this is that when I actually did want it to come off - it would not budge!! The make-up wipes I would normally use to remove mascara hardly touched it and I had to rub so hard some of my lashes fell out! I went back to the body shop and bought some of their make-up remover that says it also removes waterproof make up but even with that I had to use loads of it and it took ages before I finally got all of it off. Loses points for difficulty of removal but otherwise not bad.
Introduction. This was my first make up purchase from The Body Shop. I most commonly purchase bath and body products and skincare products from The Body Shop online and have been very pleased with them. I needed a new mascara and with the current range of offers on the website this worked out cheaper than buying a mascara from town. Price and Availability. I purchased my mascara from thebodyshop.co.uk and I received my order in time and in perfect condition (I have written a separate review on The Body Shop's website). This product is also available to purchase in store. The full retail price of this mascara is £10. This is substantially more than I would pay for a mascara but the product was already discounted online and I used a discount code which brought the price down to £2.50 a much more adequate price in my opinion. Packaging. The product comes in an ordinary shape mascara tube, with the generic screw top lid in which the applicator brush sits. The colour scheme and funky wavy pattern on the tube make this product stand out against other mascaras, it look more fun and has a retro vibe to it. The tube contains a lot of Body Shop branding but not an awful lot of other information which is surprising but you can find out more information online and in store. Each tube contains 8ml of product which I would say is on par with most other mascaras. Product The first thing I noticed about this mascara is that it has a rather distinct smell. I've never known a mascara to have a smell before. It smells sweet and earthy. I have no idea why this is and I assume that it is supposed to smell like this. The second thing I noticed is that the attached applicator seems thinner than most other mascaras. I find this works well as it enables me to get right into my lashes for an even coating. This mascara is very wet and the brush sometimes comes out with a lot of product on. I often have to wipe the excess from the brush before applying and even then I find that a lot of product makes it's way onto my lashes causing them to look wet and clumpy, even when using the wiggling method of application. In it's favour the product does dry quickly once applied and it does make lashes appear somewhat thicker. It creates a slight lift but not as much as the 'big and curvy' title suggests. The overall effect it has on my lashes is that it makes them look very black (I already have black lashes so it maybe too harsh for fairer haired people) and due to this I would suggest it is used as a night time mascara rather than an everyday one. Removing the product is fairly simple, I can remove it easily with a swipe of my usual cleanser/make up remover at night and there are no 'panda eyes' in the morning. It doesn't flake whilst I'm wearing it and it has very good staying power, I have had no adverse reaction to using this product but I do not have any sensitivities with using eye products. Overall I am pleased to try it at the bargain price of £2.50 but I would be very disappointed if I had paid the full £10 for it. I wouldn't specifically recommend it and I would classify it as a 'it'll do' product.
=== The product === This is a waterproof mascara by the body shop. === The packaging === This is a standard mascara tube, there is a wand applicator that is built in to the handle and you simply untwist the wand handle, pull it out and the mascara is already applied to the wand. The packaging really is quite standard, it's blue, black and the handle is silver. The packaging works well, it is airtight when in my bag and nothing can escape from this. The wand rubs well on the way out which ensures that there is not too much mascara on the wand when I begin to apply this. === Where can I buy this & for how much? === This can be purchased from The Body Shop for £10.00. This can also be found on The Body Shop website for the same price although delivery charges may apply. === Overall opinion === I was given this mascara, brand new, along with some other Body Shop products as part of a gift set that my friend made for me when I got married earlier this year. I believe that this is actually a very new product, however, I don't see it being a long lasting one just because of the problems that I have had when using this. Firstly, this mascara applies quite easily. There is a medium layer applied to my eye lashes and I find that my lashes look separated, fuller and darker when I have used this mascara. One wand dip is suitable to allow me to do the top and bottom lashes on one eye, this is reasonable and a little does go a long way. Secondly, I have used this on just three or four occasions, one of which was when it was raining. I was pleased to notice that this did not rub off, run or disappear. I was left with beautiful looking lashes so the waterproof element of this does work. Lastly, the waterproof element of this mascara is so ridiculously waterproof that I just cannot remove this mascara. I have tried the Body Shop Camomile Eye Make-Up Remover, a Boots make-up remover, a Tesco one and in the end I had to resort to scrubbing my eyes in the shower with soap and water. I ended up with ridiculously red eyes and black mascara smudged all around my eyelid and cheek. My husband found this hilarious, particularly as we were sharing a shower together at the time and he could see the mascara smudging more and more down my face. I found that the only way to remove this mascara is just to keep washing my face and eye area, for about 20 minutes, this still left some of my eye lashes and because I did not want to be too harsh, for fear of losing my eye lashes, I had to wait 2 or 3 days for the mascara to be removed before I could use something else. My eyes suffered greatly from using this mascara and the first few times that I used it I did not think much of it, however, as I tried more and more products, ones that have removed every other mascara in the past, I've come to realise that this mascara is at fault, not my make-up removers, and I would not use this again. It is not common for me to give a product less than a few stars out of 5, however, I feel that this deserves a 2. 1 star because it is indeed waterproof, and everything else proof, and 1 star because the mascara itself made my eye lashes look lovely, for the first evening at least, until it came time to try and remove the mascara.
