Advantages: Pretty packaging, nice applicator wand.
Disadvantages: Too wet, applies too much, expensive.
Introduction.
This was my first make up purchase from The Body Shop. I most commonly purchase bath and body products and skincare products from The Body Shop online and have been very pleased with them. I needed a new mascara and with the current range of offers on the website this worked out cheaper than buying a mascara from town.
Price and Availability.
I purchased my mascara from thebodyshop.co.uk and I received my order in time and in perfect condition (I have written a separate review on The Body Shop's website). This product is also available to purchase in store. The full retail price of this mascara is £10. This is substantially more than I would pay for a mascara but the product was already discounted online and I used a discount code which brought the price down to £2.50 a much more adequate price in my opinion.
Packaging.
The product comes in an ordinary shape mascara tube, with the generic screw top lid in which the applicator brush sits. The colour scheme and funky wavy pattern on the tube make this product stand out against other mascaras, it look more fun and has a retro vibe to it. The tube contains a lot of Body Shop branding but not an awful lot of other information which is surprising but you can find out more information online and in store. Each tube contains 8ml of product which I would say is on par with most other mascaras.
Product
The first thing I noticed about this mascara is that it has a rather distinct smell. I've never known a mascara to have a smell before. It smells sweet and earthy. I have no idea why this is and I assume that it is supposed to smell like this. The second thing I noticed is that the attached applicator seems thinner than most other mascaras. I find this works well as it enables me to get right into my lashes for an even coating. This mascara is very wet and the brush sometimes comes out with a lot of product on. I often have to wipe the excess from the brush before applying and even then I find that a lot of product makes it's way onto my lashes causing them to look wet and clumpy, even when using the wiggling method of application. In it's favour the product does dry quickly once applied and it does make lashes appear somewhat thicker. It creates a slight lift but not as much as the 'big and curvy' title suggests. The overall effect it has on my lashes is that it makes them look very black (I already have black lashes so it maybe too harsh for fairer haired people) and due to this I would suggest it is used as a night time mascara rather than an everyday one. Removing the product is fairly simple, I can remove it easily with a swipe of my usual cleanser/make up remover at night and there are no 'panda eyes' in the morning. It doesn't flake whilst I'm wearing it and it has very good staying power, I have had no adverse reaction to using this product but I do not have any sensitivities with using eye products.
Overall I am pleased to try it at the bargain price of £2.50 but I would be very disappointed if I had paid the full £10 for it. I wouldn't specifically recommend it and I would classify it as a 'it'll do' product.
Summary: Wouldn't reccommend.
