Advantages: Gives a brightened complexion for all women
Disadvantages: A little on the expensive side - but worth it
This product is one of my favourite Body Shop cosmetics.
I wear just a little foundation these days, having discovered that even just a moment’s heavy-handedness can cause my complexion to look flat and tired. Gone are the days I can trowel on the panstick and look like a cupie doll. The result is more a nightmare of Baby Jane proportions.
I discovered the Body Shop Brush-On Buff a couple of years ago when I was looking for something that would enliven my complexion as well as act as a sealant to my foundation.
The product comes in 23g of shimmering, coloured powder beads with light diffusing particles and pearl pigments. This brightens and adds colour to the complexion when applied to the face and cheek area. You can also use it to add a subtle sheen to your décolletage.
What was particularly important for me was that the light diffusing particles and pearl pigments would reduce the appearance of fine lines. And it does.
The product also contains Marula Oil and Vitamin E.
From The Body Shop website I discovered the following:
Marula Oil: Is a very effective moisturiser that also helps to condition the skin over time. Also provides essential fatty acids that help to repair the skin's moisture barrier, thus helping to restore moisture, smoothness and suppleness.
Vitamin E: Is an antioxidant that helps to soften, condition and protect the skin.
From the website, I also read the following – which I think is slightly misleading. ‘Available in shades to suit most skin tones….’
The product I have always bought comes in one shade called ‘Caramel’. I would describe this as a sheeny, café au lait with the merest undertones of pink. The combination is very flattering to my skin, which is of pale-medium tone. I also bought the same product for my daughter who has a slightly paler skin and she too found it a most flattering ‘shade’ although perhaps shade is the wrong term to use because the product merely brightens the complexion – it doesn’t really add a colour to it. It sort of ‘works with what you’ve got’ is the best way I can describe it.
To apply:
Using a large, blusher or face and body brush (I use the latter, finding it easier to get a more natural finish), dip the brush into the circular pot of shimmering powder beads, ‘stir’ for a couple of turns, tap the brush on the back of your hand then apply to the face and cheeks with sweeping movements (easier to do with the bigger brush).
Finally:
I use this product every day and a 23g pot will last approximately 12 months. It can be purchased direct from The Body Shop website for a whopping £11.50 – it might be cheaper in the shop’s retail outlets but I can’t quote a figure here.
With a little careful shopping around on ebay, you can occasionally find it half that price – although do be careful – the first pot I bought was the real thing but had obviously been tampered with and certainly didn’t contain the full 23g.
The packaging is an attractive round pot with a 'soft gold' metal screw-top which looks attractive on any dressing table.
A great product from The Body Shop and one of those I would stock-pile in if there was ever a hint of it being discontinued.
