I decided to give this product a go because I occasionally mix my eyeshadows with Vaseline and I wanted to see what a cream-based eyeshadow would be like. However I was quite disappointed with this product, I didn't think the applicator was very easy to use and I found that once I'd managed to gain an even coverage (which was difficult) it creased shortly afterwards.
As with most products in the Body Shop range, this item contains lots of natural ingredients. The Body Shop website says this product has "light diffusing particles and pearl pigments provide shimmer and sparkle which highlight the skin and help to disguise fine lines around the eye area." I would agree with the first part of this statement and I did like the shimmery look the product initially created, but I've not persevered with it long enough to know if it combats fine lines.
Applying makeup isn't something that comes naturally to me, but if you are a pro at applying cream eyeshadow and you like the colours on offer in the Body Shop range, then you should give it a go.
**** Introduction ****
Having just received my new make up from the free money I had to spend at a body shop party, I am now spoiled for choice on what make-up to wear.
At the moment I am working my way through the forty four items I purchased, thanks to the host rewards system.
Today I got ready to go out for breakfast with my family, so I thought I would give this Body Shop cream eye colour a try.
**** The Eye Colour ****
On my first impressions I loved the colour as it was an ice blue ( Artic O3 shade ) I love to wear blues on my eyes as it seems to enhance the colour of them, anyway to be perfectly honest this is all I actually liked about it.
This is very small at only 8ml a tube so I feel that the 9.00 price tag attached to this is very expensive indeed, for a eye colour that will need to be re-applied every hour or so.
This little tube comes complete with its own application wand that is attached to the inside of the lid, I have to say this is very hand and makes application very easy, so you only need to sweep it across the lids and you are done.
Well in theory this very easy but the fact that this is a cream and not a powder makes the whole process very complicated, as it takes a while to dry and you need to keeps your eyes shut to avoid horrible lines appearing on you upper eye lids.
If you actually get this to dry alright, it will crumble off your lids within a few hours. If you are like me and have a few wrinkles this stuff sit in to them perfectly and makes them stand out a mile, so if this is something you want to hide I would avoid this at all costs.
**** My Views ****
This is a very expensive shadow that has no benefits what so ever, it applies quickly but takes ages to dry so you cannot apply it in a hurry.
I have found it to be very messy even after this had dried it kept on crumbling off of my eye lids and then fall onto my lashes, which was very annoying as I spend the whole morning picking at them.
I am so pleased that this was bought with my host rewards as I would have been really disappointed if I had paid for it with hard cash.
This is the worst cream shadow I have ever used so I do not recommend it to anyone.
I have never been a fan of cream eye colour as it tends to be hit and miss as to whether or not it is any good but when I got this one as a gift last Christmas I thought it only right I give it a try with an open mind and am now very glad that someone decided it would be a good gift.
I was given the shade 05 Mink. This is a natural brown, great for a natural look or can be used more heavily for a more obvious eye. I have found that I can even make a smoky look with it, which I hadn't expected.
This comes in a small tube with a screw cap that pulls out a wand to apply the colour. The wand is similar to what you would find in a lip-gloss. When you pull it out it has too much product on it so I wipe some off in the neck of the tube, this isn't ideal as it makes the top a little messy.
Applying it is so simple, either with the applicator or by dotting it onto my eyelid and smudging it with my finger. I have used a brush to apply it before too and that works really well. Even coverage is very simple or as I tend to do you can have a thinner application near the nose and a heavier application at the outer corner for more definition.
I do find that this will crease if you have any more than a very thin layer on. Although it creases I still like this product, it lasts pretty well apart from the small amount of creasing, which I should point out isn't as bad as other cream eye shadows that I have tried in the past. I wouldn't suggest this for a completely flawless look, if you want to look perfect for a party or special occasion then don't look to this but for an everyday look this is very good.
Removing it is simple, I have never had any trouble with it at all, it doesn't take much to get it shifted.
This contains Marula oil, which moisturises the skin whilst you are wearing it and cucumber extract too soothe the delicate skin.
It contains light diffusing particles so can be used on more mature skins as these help to disguise fine lines.
I really like it but I don't think I will be going out and buying any of the other shades or replacing this one when it is gone.
At £9.00 for 8ml I think this is well overpriced! I think there must be products of a similar quality for far less out there.
The Body Shop sells five shades;
01 Starry Silver - Duh silver!
02 Dusk Pink - A peachy pink
03 Artic Ivy - Soft green
05 Mink - Medium brown
06 Cashmere - Pinky/plumy/beige.
The Body Shop is involved with many charities and foundations, information on these can be found through links on their website. None of their products are tested on animals. They also run their own version of fair trade, which they call community trade, they pay fair prices to farmers of the ingredients they buy. Details of their community trade programme can also be found on their website.
The website is very user friendly and means not only can you buy online (good P&P charges and fast delivery) but you can also find out more about their products and find out where your local store is situated.
I am a huge fan of the body shop and I review as many products as I can to make people aware of the products and the body shop itself.
Yes some items can be very expensive but the body shop pride themselves in the fact that they never test on animals, use natural ingredients in every product they produce and they also support many community trade programmes across the world.
I feel that buying from the body shop I can not only get fantastic products but I can also help the environment.
Here I am going to review the body shops cream eye shadow, usually I never wear a cream shadow I always find that I am best suited to powder shadows. But as I am an avid fan of the body shop a friend recently bought me a body shop make up pack for my birthday and it contained this cream eye colour.
At first I was very sceptical as in the past I have found cream shadows to crease up, smudge easily and they were very difficult to apply. But I have to honestly say I did not have a problem with this what so ever.
This is the cashmere 06 shade which is a dark pink plumish colour that contains tiny UV partials to give the shadow a shimmer with intense colour that lasts and will not fade away.
The eye shadow it a wet lightweight cream that dries onto the eyelids almost instantly and the colour appears the same on your eye lids as it does in the tube.
There is no need to keep on reapplying the shadows as one application will give you the colour intended straight away.
This eye colour comes in an 8ml squeezable plastic tube with a screw top lid, this is very similar to a lip gloss tube in appearance.
The best thing about this is the fact that it comes with its own applicator wand which is attactched to the screw off lid, this make the application very simple indeed.
As this has its own application wand you can apply the eye shadow directly to your eyelid, while the shadow is still tacky I would recommend you try to smudge the shadow with your finger tip or even a blender brush, this just softens the colour and blends the eye shadow in perfectly for a flawless look.
This is just as easy to remove as it is to apply, good old fashioned soap and water will remove it but if you have mascara on then I would recommend you use a suitable make up remover.
This product also supports one of many, of the body shops community trade programmes.
The Marula oil that is contained in this cream eye shadow is the key ingredient that supports these trades.
For this product Body Shop trades with the Eudafano Womens Cooperative in northern Namibia, which helps women in rural communities who have very few opportunities to earn a good wage.
Using the marula oil therefore provides women in areas often struck by famine and water shortages with the rare opportunity of regular work and a good income to support their families.
This fantastic cream eye colour has three key ingredients that are designed to moisturise and protect your skin in the best possible way.
Marula Oil is the main ingredient and is used to moisturise and condition the skin of long periods of time, it also contains fatty acids that help repair the skins natural moisture barriers helping you restore your skins moisture, smoothness and suppleness.
Marula oil is produced for the marula tree which is native to Southern Africa. This oil is rich in oleic acid and is a vital ingredient to help you have healthy-looking skin.
Light UV particles and pearl pigments are used to add shimmer and sparkle to highlight your eyelids and brow lines, this helps to disguise fine lines around the eyes.
Cucumber extract is used to cool and sooth the skin around the eye area.
Other ingredients include, Aqua (Solvent/Diluent), Mica (Opacifier), Glycerin, Silica (Absorbent), VP/Dimethiconylacrylate/Polyglycol Ester (Film Former), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Carbomer (Viscosity Modifier), Methylparaben (Preservative), Propylene Glycol (Humectant), Sodium Hydroxide (pH Adjuster), Butylparaben (Preservative), Ethylparaben (Preservative), Isobutylparaben (Preservative), Propylparaben (Preservative), Cucumis sativus (Cucumber Extract) (Natural Additive), CI 77891 (Colour), CI 77163 (Colour), CI 77492 (Colour), CI 77491 (Colour).
This comes in an 8ml tube and costs 9.00, this can be purchased from any Body shop store, Body shop at home party or online at www.the body shop.co.uk.
You can also buy online at www.amazon.com and ebay also offer these cream colour tubes at a reduced price, I have seen these go for as little as 4.50 on ebay.
These amazing little tubes come in five different shades to suit any skin tone, they are also available in matt and pearl finishes to suit your needs.
These five shades include:
ARTIC IVY 03 (Ice blue in colour)
DUST PINK 02 (Soft baby pink in colour)
CASHMERE 06 (Dark plum pink in colour)
STARRY SILVER 01 (Sliver/white with sparkle in colour)
MINK 05 (Plum lilac in colour)
To be honest I still prefer a powder eye shadow, but I have to admit I have been pleasantly surprised by the outcome of this, I love the fact that it gives me a nice even coverage with a very intense colour.
This is great as it does not cease up or smudge after application, I found the pearl finish shadows a lot better that the matt as the colour seemed more vivid and the matt was very dull looking but it would have been ideal for a day make up.
The biggest bonus was the fact that the application only took a few seconds and therefore saved me a lot of time in the morning, so therefore it gets my vote if you are in a hurry.
