Advantages: Lengthens and defines my lashes, reasonable price
Disadvantages: None
I bought this mascara quite recently as The Body Shop had a 50% sale on.
I don't often buy cosmetics from TBS, however as I do really like their eyeliner I thought the mascara would be worth trying. This retails at £10.00 per 10ml tube, which I feel is a reasonable price due to the quality. I managed to get mine for a fiver, which I am extremely pleased with and I wish I'd bought a few more while the sale was on!
This mascara is available in two shades - black and brown. As I have dark hair I opted for black, but I imagine that the brown will be handy for people who have fairer hair. The Body Shop say that the mascara defines the lashes with glossy colour and makes them appear longer. I'm always a bit wary of lengthening mascara's as they can sometimes leave my lashes looking like spider legs, and I usually opt for mascaras which thicken and lengthen.
As The Body Shop products are always good quality though I thought I'd take the risk and I'm glad I did - it doesn't have the spider leg effect on my lashes at all, thankfully! The mascara is ophthalmologically and dermatologically tested, meaning that it is suitable for people with sensetive eyes and people who wear contact lenses.
The mascara comes in an average shaped mascara tube - it's made of sturdy plastic and is grey. I am not too keen on the colour of it, but this isn't something that effects my rating as it is the actual mascara that counts, not the packaging. The mascara wand is a good length and the brush is pretty long and slender with lots of synthetic bristles.
The bristles are stubby and very close together so I was worried that they'd make my lashes clump together rather than seperate them, but I've had no issues with it clumping. The formula is very light on my lashes and although it does add a noticeable amount of length, it doesn't make my lashes feel weighed down.
The effect it gives is full, long, fluttery lashes which look subtle enough for day to day wear but as it is so buildable you could really over-do it if you wanted a more dramatic fish. The mascara is easily buildable as the formula is so lightweight (not thick or clumpy) and I find 2 coats more than enough for a noticeable improvement in the length of my lashes.
The glossy finish is discreet and it doesn't feel wet or greasy. The lasting power is impressive and it managed to stay on all day yesterday from 9am until around 4pm when we went to a theme park; it even survived the log flume with minimal smudging, which I was pleasantly suprised by as it is not waterproof as far as I'm aware.
Overall, highly recommended.
Summary: 5/5
