Costly cosmetics
~~~~~~~~~~~
As well as lots of wonderful smelling skincare products, the Body Shop also produces a very extensive range of cosmetics. Although I am a bit of a sucker for the Body Shop, I haven't used that many of the makeup products as I think they are quite expensive and the few items I have used have been quite underwhelming.
But I am always happy to try out something new when it is in the Body Shop sale, and I picked up one of these little eye shadow compacts for a few pounds after Christmas. The shade I have is No 17, which is a grey-blue shade. At full price these cost £8 and come in a wide range of shades. They are crease resistant, according to the Body Shop website, and are suitable for contact lens wearers, which I am.
Pretty packaging
The eye shadows come in simple but pretty little compacts - the base is black and the flip top lid is see through in the middle with silver edging. It is attractive looking and is very small and dinky so ideal to slip into a small makeup bag.
As mentioned, the shade I have is a blue-grey and has a nice shimmer to it when you move it under the light. Applying this is very easy and you can tell that this is a good quality product. It has quite a dense, powdery feel to it and it is very pigmented which I like as I often find eye shadows look great in the packaging but look too sheer once on the eyelids! I use an eye shadow brush to apply this and find it goes on very easily and evenly. The colour is a lovely silvery blue and looks very pretty once on - it catches the light nicely giving a nice silvery sheen to the eyes. It is a good colour for nights out as it is a little bit dramatic - but not too full on! You could also add a little silver shimmer or glitter to this to ramp it up and it also looks more dramatic with lots of black eyeliner and mascara. It also has good staying power - although I do always use an eye primer before applying eye shadow so this may help.
Over-priced
~~~~~~~~
Overall this is a really nice eye shadow - it is a pretty colour and it's good quality. So why only three stars? Well, as with so many Body Shop products, it is a bit overpriced. The compact is very small, and although it is a perfectly nice product, I have used eye shadows that have been just as good for less than half the price. I am not sure how the Body Shop can justify this costing £8 so I have been mean and knocked off a couple of stars.
Summary: A nice eye shadow, but it simply isn't worth the high price tag.
