The Body Shop Foundation Brush
Advantages: Works well - Kind to skin - Excellent quality..
Disadvantages: More expensive than other brands..
I regularly wear foundation, in either a mousse or liquid format. I have tried and tested different methods of application over the years, and have found that the results vary depending on the consistency and texture of the foundation I am using at the time.
The current foundation product I am using has a mousse texture to it and I have found that I need to use one of my Foundation Brushes during the application process otherwise I end up with a very unnatural looking end result.. Not great!
The Foundation Brush that I have been using recently is from The Body Shop and I have had it for quite a few months now. The current selling price for The Foundation Brush is £12 at the time of writing (November 2012), but I believe I paid around £7 at the time of purchase, thanks to an online deal that was running at The Body Shop's website at the time. Incidentally, you can purchase the brush in store in branches of The Body Shop, or online at their website, at www.thebodyshop.co.uk.
The brush is extremely soft, with bristles that are completely cruelty-free, as you would expect from such an environmentally-aware retailer as The Body Shop. The brushes are quite long in their length, and I have never experienced any loose or stray bristles becoming loose - either during, or after use.
The brush's black handle is quite long and I find it offers a very comfortable grip during use, without it feeling particularly slippery or difficult to handle. There is a slight 'angle' in the handle's design which goes some way to allowing an easier approach when blending make-up on the face. Certainly, I have found the brush is quite easy to manoeuvre and it feels slightly less cumbersome than some other foundation brushes that I have that do not have this design feature.
The brush works extremely well, coping well with both liquid and mousse based foundations. I find that the bristles are fine enough to allow the brush to blend my make up effortlessly, and without leaving unsightly 'drag' marks in the make up which is a really annoying trait of many other foundation brushes that I have used before. Instead, the foundation or make up is completely smooth in both its appearance and its feel, allowing for a really natural look.
The bristles are extremely soft as I touched on earlier. I have found they are completely safe and gentle enough to use over my neckline and face, and even though I suffer from very sensitive skin, I have suffered nothing in the way of irritation or sensitivity from using the brush during use. Likewise, I have noticed no unpleasant 'scratching' or really any sort of harshness to the feel of the brush's bristles at all.
I do wash all of my make up brushes with a special cleaner solution that I purchased in America, but when this runs out I will probably just go back to my tried and tested method of washing the brushes in a tiny amount of mild shampoo, mixed in a hot water solution. I always rinse the brushes thoroughly after washing and then allow them to air dry. I have found that The Body Shop Foundation Brush copes extremely well with this practice and the bristles wash up really well, leaving them looking almost like new afterwards. To me, this is a sign of a quality brush, as I have found that cheaply made make up brushes will often have their bristles come loose during washing or cleaning. Not ideal, as I find that brushes like this one really need washed out from time to time to prevent a build-up of make up which is rather unhygienic but also stops the brush from working properly, due to the bristles becoming clogged up.
I can appreciate that the normal selling price is perhaps more expensive than many other Foundation Brushes that are available from alternative retailers, but I do feel that you get what you pay for with an item like this one, and in my experience, it is often the case that cheaper make up brushes are something of a false economy.
I have nothing negative to report about The Body Shop Foundation Brush and will definitely repurchase it again for myself when my current one needs replacing. I have nothing negative to report about either the brush's design or its performance and therefore feel that it deserves full marks in the product rating score.
Summary: Highly recommend it.. top marks!
