Over the past six months I have really been suffering contact dermatitis this is caused by the exposure of chemicals. As a hairdresser I am always in contact with chemicals and substances, which trigger of a flare up.

Sometimes these flares are very mild and only blister slightly, but more often then not these flare ups can swell my hand and cause painful blisters the size of 50 pence pieces.

After putting up with this problem for weeks I went to the doctors, who then prescribed me betnovate cream, this is the strongest steroid cream available. Within seven days the blisters went so it did work but stripped my skin layers, my hands skin is very thin and translucent in colour.

I have since learned that I am allergic to nail extension acrylic liquid, when ever I come in contact with it I flare up. I can not stop using acrylic liquid as this is my job and I would not only lose my job but my business as well.

I will always be allergic to this now, which is really strange I have used to product for years and all of a sudden, it doesn't agree with me. I have now just accepted it and learnt to cope with it.

I have never really been one for creams and moisturisers, I found them pointless and sometimes very expensive. But now I have no alternative but to use creams to help protect and restore my skin.

I have tried many creams and barriers that are on the market and none of them have really helped me, until I found body shops hemp hand protector.

THE BODY SHOP PRODUCT.

The body shop hemp hand protector is a cream designer for heavy duty moisturisation, protection and repair.

The cream itself is a green / grey colour and has a slightly grainy texture to it, once it is applied to your skin it is very cooling and feels slightly greasy until the skin has absorbed it.

When the cream has been fully absorbed (within 1 minute) your skin feels instantly better, it feels like you have a film layer on top of your skin. Yes this does sound bad but it feels really soothing and not at all greasy like most other creams.

HEMP SEED

Everyone always associates this with cannabis, yes it is the cannabis leaf but the product has nothing to do with pot (sorry).

Hemp seed is unusually full of essential fatty acids. This is essential because our skin needs them to remain soft and supple, even tough our body does not make these fatty acids it is essential that you rub hemp into extremely dry or damaged skin, to moisturise and protect it from further damage.

PACKAGING

This cream itself comes in a 100ml metal tube, with a screw cap closure. This screw cap also acts as a stand so you can stand the cream up easily and store it well.

The tube is silver with a green hemp leaf (cannabis leaf) on the front, and also the body shop logo.

MY OPINION.

I have to say I am amazed by this cream, if really does work. I am still allergic to the acrylic so I protect my skin with this cream. I can still use the acrylic to a certain extent and this barrier cream helps stop a flare up.

Since using this my skin has gone there stages, firstly it dried the area that was damaged then it has protected and repaired the skin. Now it in not translucent, it is slightly red still but I think this I where my skins pigments are returning.

I love this as it is not greasy and you can apply and go, you do not have to wait until it soaks in. I have this in my bag at all times.

At first I was using this every two to three hours to hydrate my skin, but now it has repaired I only use it twice a day. And now a tube can last me three months.

Summary: Fantasic cream that does work, unlike most.
