Advantages: Easy to apply, lovely colours
Disadvantages: A bit pricey
I have been using The Body Shop's Shimmer Cubes for a few months now and felt compelled to tell everyone how fab they are!
If you're not familiar with them, Shimmer Cubes are a set of four seperate eyeshadows. Each eye shadow comes in its own small square pot and all four sit in a larger square pot.
There are two main colour ranges available all year - 'Warm' which is a range of borowns and beiges and 'Sparkle' which contains sparkly silver, pink, brown and grey. In addition to the, every six months or so, The ody Shop releases a Shimmer Cube set in seasonal colours. the colours they have at the moment look a bit vibrant for me - it's blue, green, orange and yellow!
Each Shimmer Cube set comes with two shades that are good for a base and two that are good for highlighting. In the Warm set, I use the broze and beige as bases, sweeping them up to my eyebrow and then highlight the eyelid with the darker browns. They can be used dry for a fairly subtle effect, but if you want something a bit bolder you can apply with a dampened applicatior.
The individual pots are fairly small (about 2cm by 2cm), so it is easiest to apply the eye shadows with a brush, although you could probably do it with your fingers if you're not too clumsy!
The ingredients include marula oil - an oil similar in composition to the natural oil in your skin, which means the eye shadows are easy to apply. The shimmer effect is created by finely ground mica (a mineral).
I find the quality of these eye shadows to be fantastic. They glide on and never end up clogging in the creases of my eyes, no matter how warm I get. I have fairly sensitive eyes, as I wear contact lenses, but have never had a problem with these eye shadows irritating my eyes.
At £15.00 for a set of shimmer cubes, this is not a cheap option, but I think the quality is worth it and they seem to last ages - I have had mine for three months and use them almost every day but I've barely made a dent in them! In fact the only down side is that the small pots are a bit fiddley (I'm VERY sausage-fingered) so they may not be great for people with arthritis or other mobility problems.
Summary: Definitely worth trying
