This was yet another one of the little bargains I picked up in the Body Shop sale online a few weeks back. I haven't tried that many items in the shop's make-up range, as I do think they are expensive, but this cost just £2 so was worth a go! The copper version is still on sale on the Body Shop website for £2, although I expect if these were full price they would be around £7-8. The shade I have is gold.
Pale and uninteresting
This comes in a very small compact which is silver in colour. It isn't the most expensive of packaging to look at or feel really. Inside the eyeshadow itself looks really pale - the very lightest of beige colours and it doesn't really look that shimmery or glittery - in fact it looks a bit flat and boring! I tend to apply this using my fingertip (there is no brush or applicator with this) and it feels very light to the touch. Some cheaper eyeshadows that I have can be a bit crumbly but this is nice and compact.
Applying this with my fingertip, I soon realised that this isn't as dull as it at first appears. As you apply it, it looks quite pearlescent - and actually has quite a pinky sheen to it! However I do find the colour very sheer and I find that I really have to layer this one up for it to make much impact at all. It really does only give quite a light hint of colour, although it does look quite shimmery and nice in the light. It's a good day time shadow for bright, sunny days I think as it's quite subtle and pretty, but it does lack a bit of drama!
I always wear a primer under eyeshadow, but for the purposes of this review I have worn this eyeshadow without, and sadly I did find that it creased quite easily. But this is a problem I always seem to have with eyeshadows - hence why I usually use a primer first!
In summary ...
Overall I suppose I am a bit underwhelmed by this eyeshadow. It is quite pretty, and the pink sheen was a nice surprise (although maybe not something everyone would welcome in an eyeshadow advertised as being gold). However it is very sheer and takes a bit of effort to be noticeable. For a girlie daytime look then I think this is ok, but for anything more dramatic you would need to team this with other products. I'm very glad I paid so little for it as, although I will use it, it won't be top of my list!
Whilst shopping in my local Body Shop lately I bought one of these eye shimmer compacts. I don't wear a lot of make up but when I have an event like a wedding I do like to wear something that it special and this eye shimmer looked lovely so I couldn't resist it.
The Body Shop is an ethically friendly beauty shop which has been on our high streets for years. I like that when I buy a product from here I am helping other communities.
This eye shimmer comes in a plastic round compact which is very shiny and looks almost like it is metal so it definitely looks like a high end product. There were several shades to choose from. The colour I chose was an off-white almost peachy colour which I thought would be subtle enough to not look over powering but because it has a shimmery effect it would still stand out.
When applying this I used my fingers and I didn't have to press down hard on it to get the shimmer off. It went onto my eye lid fine, very smooth and stayed put! Sometimes with shimmery things I find that they don't really stay on my skin very much and just tend to pretty much blow away! This stayed put though which is obviously a good thing!
I applied it on top of my eye shadow so it softened the colour of the shadow and the effect was very good. It looked nice and shiny but not excessively so.
It stayed on for several hours and just needed touching up the odd time.
I really like this shimmer I think it's very summery. It is not the sort of make up that you can wear every day, I think it is a bit too much for 'casual' make up and so should really be saved for events which is fine for me.
I am pleased with this shimmer and do recommend it if you are looking for something subtle.
The first time I came across The Body Shop Eye Shimmers I thought the colours looked weak and too iridescent to have any impact on my skin. I was just about to walk a walk when a friendly member of staff came over saying 'Let me show you how to make this come alive', I accepted as I thought she sounded too keen to turn down. The assistant put a straight black line of eye liner on my hand then swept the Violet shade 06 of eye shimmer over the top and instantly it transformed it's weak colour to a bold and fabulous deep purple colour. I was instantly wowed and exclaimed 'show me more!'.
What is an eye shimmer?
Eye shimmers look like any ordinary eye shadow, however their colours are much more iridescent and pale looking. You can apply them direct to your eye lids wet or dry. They contain marula oil which helps your skin keeps it;s moisture barrier so the product is not absorbed into the creases. It can be applied over other eye colours, the darker the better and it transforms to a much bolder shade, especially when used over eye liner.
What does it cost?
A standard 1.4g pot costs £9 and lasts the same length your ordinary eye shadow would. If you have love your body card (see my other review for further info) you get 10% off this.
Why is it special?
It contains marula oil to moisturise your skin and repair the moisture barrier. This prevents your skin from drying out and having a cakey eye shadow effect. It also prevents eye shadow from sticking in your creases.
This comes in 4 shades. 01 is silver 02 is gold 04 copper and 06 violet. They did sell a lovely emerald shade which turned to a deep green which is worth getting if you come across it in their outlet store.
A little bit expensive but very versatile. Can be worn alone for a subtle flash of colour or layered in itself or other colours for a bold dramtic effect.
Another fabulous eyeshadow from The Body Shop, if you've read any of my other reviews on the Body Shop collection then you'll realise that in my opinion they either get it so right, or so wrong... on this occasion they have produced a gorgeous, shimmy product that ticks almost every box.
The product goes on very evenly and you can layer it up to create a more intense effect. It doesn't crease, which is fantastic because it means that the shadow doesn't age - it looks like you've just applied it hours afterwards. You could also use this product for more complex makeup application, because it highlights other shadows well.
The shimmer eyeshadow is cost effective in the respect that you don't use much when you apply it - a little does go a long way, however there are other shimmer products in the Body Shop collection that offer better value (e.g: the shimmer cubes - you get four eyeshadows instead of one). However overall this is a great product and it is worth buying so you can highlight other shadows.
If you've read my other body shop reviews you'll know I'm a big fan of their make up. I always find it exceeds expectations in terms of quality and endurance, and the shimmer eye shadows are no different.
The shadows come in small compacts with 1.4g of product. The compacts are really cute, they are chrome effect plastic with a transparent window, through which you can see the product, with the body shop logo printed on in black.
On the back is a layered peel label with the shade number and various information including ingredients and safe use time, in this case 36 months. I feel that often we are persuaded that make up shouldn't be kept longer than a year for hygiene reasons, I find that powder products are safe to use for many years if treated well and I am glad the body shop portray this in their products.
The flip lid is solid, very hard to break, and opens and closes with a satisfyingly loud click. It's a simply swing open lid with no catches or leavers, but it is secure enough to go in a handbag. The eye shadow sits in a shallow pan, quite deep in the compact, giving an even more secure feel.
The eye shadows come in several shades:
The mystery of shade 05 is yet to be resolved...
Currently I have all except pink and copper bit I have used them all.
When you first look at these they are not what you expect. They all appear almost white with just a hint of colour. Don't worry, they do not appear as pale shadows on the skin. They give a wash of pure iridescent shimmer.
*USE AND RESULTS*
What makes these so good is that the shadow goes on so evenly, they are completely foolproof, I've never worn these and found they look patchy. They are layer-able, from barely there to obvious.
I apply using a sponge tip applicator, I find this to give a better and more controllable application than brushes. I like to ware them alone or use as a highlighter with other eye shadows, both uses work well. When used alone they go on evenly and do not crease. There is minimal fading when worn for a full day, especially if you use a primer or cover your eye lids in foundation and powder. Usually I wear just one shade, sometimes I wear more than one, and I have found them to be highly blend-able and the shades are complementary no matter what combinations you use.
My skin is fussy and sensitive and I have had no reactions of any kind to these shadows, though that's not surprising, I've never had a reaction to any body shop product.
At first glance, 1.4g for £8.80 might not seem like good value, after all you can go into boots and find a quad of eye shimmery shadows from another brand for less than that. But in my opinion the quality of these shimmer shadows is superior to most other high street brands, and when you consider that the Marula oil found in almost all of their make up is part of a scheme designed to "(provide) women in areas often struck by famine and droughts with the rare opportunity of regular work and income" the price doesn't seem quite so unrealistic.

I have always had great respect for Body shop as it has always been against animal testing, although most companies don't test on animals any longer, it must have been quite an accomplishment for Body shop to be one of the major brands that didn't animal test on the market.
"The Body Shop Shimmer Eye shadow" was given to me for my birthday in March from my cousin.
In this set there was:
gorgeous Silver Star light liquid eyeliner, with glitter particles to add definition to the eyes.
Wonderful pocket size mascara with a thick brush, perfect for making your eye lashes look thicker and full.
Some eye lash curlers wish I must admit I never use because I have really long eye lashes so just a bit of mascara does the trick!
And then last but not least this eye shimmers in silver.
The "The Body Shop Shimmer Eye shadow" is lightweight and has great durability; it doesn't tend to crease and is one of my favourite moisturising eye shadows.
I have used products that are known for their excellence in eye shadow such as: Urban Decay and Bobbi Brown, but this product is defiantly without a doubt the best.
I've always had tons of eye shadows and shimmers, I never leave the house without make-up but I'll always go out without eye shadow even though I have a make-up bag full of them! I only wear eye shadows on special occasions but when I tried this eye shimmer on I couldn't get enough of it and wore it for college the next day, So many people came up to me that day and complimented my eye shimmer I was so surprised at the feedback from other people saying my eyes looked 'amazing' especially because I had one of the lightest eye shimmer shades on! Just goes to show how great this product really is.
I love how soft and silky this eye shimmer feels on my eyes, it stays on all day long even though when I first applied it because it was so soft and silky I presumed it would glide off very easy through the day, but it didn't budge!
The Eye Shimmer is a formulation that is silky-smooth that glides on evenly and blends effortlessly.
It's available in eight gorgeous shades from golden colours to pinks and blues.
The special binding formula in this eye shadow clings to the delicate eye area this makes the eye shadow look fresh and not smudged.
This eye shadow is pigment-rich; Just like Urban Decay, or any of the Maybelline eye. Body shop load their eye shadows with so much colour and very few binders (there the things that hold the shadow together)
so the eye shadow makes your eyes look gorgeous and stand out.
I was really pleased with the results of this product as they make my eyes look fabulous and the eye shadow is very bold despite the fact It's such a light shade, some eye shadows I have purchased don't stand out at all with this eye shadow you really can't go wrong.
In all my eye shadow reviews I give the same tip as I really believe it gives the best results.
This might sound like a very bizarre tip but I really recommend you soak your eye shadow brush before you apply ANY eye shadow, and then apply the eye shadow on the brush it makes application so much easy because it goes onto your lids like cream and the colour stands out more.
I'm without a doubt going to buy some more eye shimmers from the Body Shop range, I love the one I have so much that I want more!
I've just checked the Body Shop site and this product costs £8.80 its worth every penny the results are tremendous :)
I think I may have stumbled across one of the best eyeshadows. I bought this from The Body Shop as a Hen night is coming up and I wanted something a little bit different, after wondering in and out of shops I spotted this eyeshadow. After quickly snapping it up I decided to try it out at hmoe to make sure itwould be perfect for the night out.
It comes in a very nice silver compact which is nice and small and so fits well into your make up bag. It's easy top open and close even though its small it doesnt make it any more fiddlier!
The eyeshadow itself is pressed powder and you'll find when looking that they offer a wide variety of colours which is great. I bought the grey/silver colour as I like the smoky effect however this eyeshadow looks as though it has had tiny bits of diamonds scattered into the powder giving it a very nice shimmer as it almost twinkles in the light.
I used my finger with this powder and as I touched it found it to be very smooth and almost felt creamy, this made it extremeley easy to apply to the eyelid as well as blend in so that I didnt look as though I had just been in a fight and lost! The eyeshadow didnt feel heavy at all and when looking in the mirror I was pleased to see the shimmer shone just as much on my eyes as it had in the compact.
Its easy to remove with a simple wipe and was even more pleased to find that the eyeshadow left my eyelids quite moisturised and felt realy nice and smooth.
I can not wait until I use this forthe hen night!
**** Introduction ****
Sorry guys but this is a review on yet another Body Shop product that I got from my recent body Shop party.
I am not a massive make up fan, but after recently completing a make up application diploma I have found a new found passion for make up.
Now that I actually know how to apply it correctly I crave anything that is shiny and glimmers.
**** The Eye Shadow ****
This eyeshadow comes in a 1.4 gram compact style casing, that flips open and shut. It is small enough to carry around with you if needed but I have found this product has staying power so only one application is needed in a day.
I have gone for a steel gray shade that glitters and shines after it has been applied, when I first saw that eye shadow I was not overly impressed as it did not glimmer, but this is because the product is tightly compacted into the case, so once it is applied to you eye lids it has a high intensity of shine.
This is a light powders that it applied to your eyelids, using a make up application brush. It is very easy to apply and does not flake and leave dust marks on your face, which is very common what applying a powder shadow with a brush.
This has great staying ability and lasts all day long without creasing or smudging so for me it is the perfect eye shadow and I will be buying a few different shades.
This is every easy to remove using a light make-up remover of soap and water, so this is another good point especially if you wear it on a night out and need to remove it quickly before hitting the sack.
This cost me £8.50 which was extreme but after using is i feel that it is very good value as it will last a while.
**** My Views ****
I have now been converted to the body shop products totally, I love that all of the make up is made using natural ingredients and that they do not test on animals.
As far as the eyeshadow goes, I am very impressed as it stays on all day and it is very easy to take off at night, so this is by far one of the best eyeshadows I have used in a long while.
I loved the intensity of the colour after it had been applied, it really glimmered and shined without being to overpowering on my eyes, this does not look like much in the compact case but when the powder is broken up it is very intense.
If this is something that appeals to you I would highly recommend that you visit the body shop and try out some of their fantastic shades, as they vary from very light pastel to intense dark shades all of which twinkle.
Getting ready for a night out a few weeks ago, I dragged out my massive and over indulged make-up bag full of cosmetics as I was looking for something different to wear, as my usual make-up bag is a lot smaller and only contains certain day make-up that is not really suitable for a night out.
When I go out I like to have huge eyes that look like a professional has applied my make-up, so I apply many colours and blend them together to achieve glamorous results.
On this occasion I got out the body shop eye shimmer to compliment the eye shadow I was already wearing.
This is a body shop eye shimmer that comes in the form of a pressed powder eye shadow, it is exactly the same as the body shop matt eye shadows, but it is highly pigmented with glittery bits that blend beautifully with any eye colour.
Once you have applied this to your eyes you will have an intense shimmery finish that reflects the light, this then gives your eyes the appearance that they a much bigger than they are.
I found this eye shadow to be very easy to apply and can be worn over the top of a different eye shadow to enhance the colours, or it can be worn alone for a much softer look.
This is a very light weight powder that never creases and sits into the little wrinkles that we all refuse to admit we have, it also covers well without smudging and smearing off within hours unlike some other brands.
These fantastic shimmer eye shadows come in seven different shades, so you can certainly get a colour to suit you. These shimmers come in pastel and intense shades, suitable for both day and night make-up.
NO3 shimmer pastel pink
NO6 shimmer violet / lilac
NO8 shimmer emerald green
NO2 shimmer gold
NO1 shimmer white / silver
NO4 shimmer orange / copper
No 7 shimmer sea blue
I personally use the shimmer sea blue NO7 with the body shop matt aqua blue eye shadow, it looks stunning with thick black lashes and liquid eye liner.
I would personally apply this with your finger tip or using a blender brush so you can apply it and smudge it into your other eye shadow evenly to give a better finish, which looks professionally applied.
It is recommended that you apply this to you eyelids, brow line, underneath you bottom eye lashes and into the tear duct areas. This will emphasises your eyes to the full extent without you looking like a clown with too much make upon.
Removal is very easy for this product as well, you can either wash it off with soap and water or a conventional make- up remover will also do the job.
Talc, Lanolin Oil, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Dimethicone, Synthetic Wax, Lauryl Methacrylate/Glycol Dimethacrylate Crosspolymer, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Oil, Copernica Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Tocopheryl Acetate, Methylparaben, Silica, Propylparaben, Mica, Titanium Dioxide.
The three key ingredients here are Marula oil which is used to moisturise and condition the skin helping it to stay soft and supple, Vitamin E is also used to soften and protect the skin and lastly Lanolin oil which is a rich moisturiser that is absorbed easily to give you skin added protection.
These three key ingredients are part of the community trade programs that the body shop support.
These shimmer eye shadows can be purchased from www.bodyshop.co.uk for the bargain price of 8.00 each or at any body shop store for the same price.
These are very small eye shadows, but take my word for it they last ages. I have had mine for over twelve months and I have not even made a dent in to it.
I love this as it really gives my eyes definition and enhances the colour as I have blue eyes, I only apply this to my brow lines and underneath my eye lashes. I always finish it with black liquid eye liner and heavy thick black mascara, so my lashes look like spiders legs.
I can go on a night out, a heavy one at that and come home hours later with my make-up still I tact, I hate it when it is half way down your face before your head even hits the pillow.
The shimmer in this eye shadow is what makes it extra special for me, as it reflects the light really well and looks great for a night out, I don't think I could wear this during the day as it would be too much even though they do pastel shades, I don't think it be suitable for me.
If you fancy glamour puss eyes then give this a whirl, but I would recommend you use a blender brush or something similar to blend colours together, because if you don't blend them well enough they can look very thick and patchy, which is never a good look on any girl.
These eyeshadows are a complete MUST HAVE item for any make up bag!!! This product is fab! Very shimmery and has so many uses. Brow bones, cheeks (the paler colours only) and on eyelids. The shadow can be used on it's own, over another colour or on top of eyeliners.
It's well known that The Body Shop products and ingredients aren't tested on animals and most products now have some kind of community traded ingredient which is a bonus.
The Eye Shimmers are all very pale to look at but used correctly can have a massive wow effect.
They can either be used on the eyelid normally to give a subtle shimmer or used on top of another colour to add a boost to it.
The Gold, Silver and Copper are the best for this as it just "lifts" any existing eyeshadow.
For a truely striking look, use either a black eyeshadow or black liner (either liquid or pencil) then lightly add the eye shimmer on top. I like just a flash of colour so i put on my normal liquid eyeliner, let it dry then put the shimmer over the top of the liner for
Applying the colour over black (liner or shadow) gives a strikingly sharp colour. My personal favorite is the Emerald Green and when this is placed over black, it turns from a light green pale shimmer to a striking, in your face bright green.
The paler colours can also be used to highlight brows and cheeks for a bit of jazz!
It really does have to be seen to be believed! They are a bit pricey, particularly if you're not sure how to use them but The Body Shop is also known for it's demos. Head in store and one of the staff will show you how it's done.
There is a downside though. As they are so powdery, they break very easily so it's not an item that can live in your makeup bag and carry everywhere as it will break and it will turn your makeup bag into a shimmer powder mess.
Also you need to be careful when applying it to a brush. Pushing on the brush too hard into the shadow will break it and no amount of mushing it back together with your fingers will fix it. Drop it and you can be sure it's in bits. Basically, don't take it everywhere with you.
Another downside is if you're on a night out, you will get stopped and asked what you've got on your eyes at least once if not more! Maybe that's not a bad thing though!
Make your eyes pop with shimmering, crease-resistant color coverage in a moisturizing eye shadow /
