Skin Primer - Matte It
I am new to the world of primers, until recently I had been convinced that primers were simply not for my skin type, I have oily/combination skin and I was not convinced that another layer of makeup on my skin would help my foundation stay in place. I had a voucher to use for The Body Shop so I popped in to buy a tea tree product that I use from there and got speaking to a member of staff about some of their products. Part of the way through the conversation I moved near a mirror on the make up stand and moaned about the fact that my foundation had slipped off my face yet again. I find that shopping seems to be a awful conditions for my skin, the constant change from heat in the stores to the cold outside at this time of year seems to be a trigger. The sales assistant asked me what sort of primer I was using before my foundation to which I must have looked like a rabbit caught in headlights and responded that I had oily skin. The assistant assured me that a primer was indeed suitable for oily skin and that they made one especially designed to keep the skin matte and help hold foundation in place.
Now as many ladies here know we are so often promised great things from these products only to be let down when we get them home, as such when my mind is set there really is little anyone can do to persuade me I am wrong especially when it comes to parting with my hard earned cash. The bodyshop was to win this day and purely because they offer samples to try. The sales assistant went to a small basket by the wall and returning with a small clear pot squeezed a good amount of the primer into the pot before handing it to me to try.
The primer is sold in a nice small clear tube, not dissimilar to a tube of toothpaste. The tube has a black plastic lid.
The primer itself is a very thick clear gel that feels quite slimy, when I first squeezed it onto my finger to blend into my skin I was still convinced that this was going to turn my forehead into an oil slick even faster than it normally occurs and I would be left saying "I told you so!"
The gel blends in quite nicely and the slimy feeling very quickly soaks into the skin leaving no residue. I then found that I could apply my foundation with no adverse effects of the extra layer underneath it. Ok, The Body Shop was winning so far but surely after an hour in town I would need to be reapplying my foundation as usual, wouldn't I?
I went about my usual day and within 2 hours my forehead was a little shiny, I had to apply a little powder but it was not as bad as usual. Unfortunately within 4 hours it really was greasy and felt awful. This product did hold the foundation in place longer than it normally stays however it did not keep my skin matte and I still needed several applications of powder.
Cyclomethicone (Emollient), Polysilicone-11 (Film Former), Dimethicone (Skin Conditioning Agent), Cyclopentasiloxane (Skin-Conditioning Agent/Emollient), Cyclohexasiloxane (Chelating Agent), Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract (Skin-Conditioning Agent).
This product is available from The Bodyshop for £12 or online at www.thebodyshop.co.uk
The tube contains 25ml of primer.
The performance of this product is not outstanding, however it does keep my foundation in place better and I have noticed that it does help even out my foundation a little when I have a few spots. I did go and buy a full tube of this product when I had a voucher for the store again and only had to pay a few pounds for it but I am not sure I would want to pay £12 for it. I do use this every day but I do apply it before a long day or anight out to help keep my make up looking better for longer. It's not a product I would say I would rush to buy but it has it's place in my make up routine and I will replace it when it is finished. I will also add that this product has not been the cause of any increase in breakouts on my skin.
I would give this 4 out of 5 stars simply because I have not noticed any improvement in the matteness of my skin.
Summary: A decent product that does help but could be a little bit better.
