THE PRODUCT: This is The Body Shop''s classic mascara and it gives your lashes volume and intense colour. The mascara coats your lashes without clumping and it''s even suitable for contact lens wearers. When looking on The Body Shop website the mascara has mostly good reviews, so I was looking forwards to trying out this product to see what it was like. The mascara comes in a dark blue tube which has a silver lid to it and it clearly states on the front of the product the brand and the name of the product. On the bottom of the tube is a round sticker which represents the shade of the mascara which in this case is black. This mascara does also come in brown as well. When unscrewing the mascara lid it reveals the wand which looks slightly different to what I am used to using. It looks as through the stiff hairs to the brush are close together and spiral round the wand rather than being all over the wand itself. You can see that a good amount of mascara is on the brush when removing it from the tube. PRICE/AVAILABILITY: The mascara on its own is priced at 10 which does seem a little pricey; how-ever when comparing this to other brands of mascara I think the price is actually reasonable, especially as my previous mascara I was using isn''t that much cheaper than this.
I received this with an eye makeup pack I brought from my local body shop store and can I say I am impressed! this mascara catches even the smallest of lashes and makes my eyes pop! I have had so many compliments with this mascara the only downside I find is the version I received was not waterproof, as soon as I have finished this I will be seeing if a waterproof version is available!
I received this mascara free with an issue of Glamour magazine. I think it's normally priced at around £10.
The mascara has a decent sized brush that manages to grab each and every lash - even the corner lashes that sometimes get missed out. The brush is comfortable to use and it doesn't feel harsh on the lashes. It doesn't feel like it's pulling and/ or tugging and the mascara itself is a pleasure to use. It's a fragrance free mascara too, so no nasty smells before (and after) use. Plus it means that it can be used on sensitive eyes.
I found the mascara to be easy and simple to use. I used a zig zag motion to apply the mascara, building it up as needed. I noticed that after two coats I had achieved a decent amount of volume so I left it at that in case the mascara started to clump. Fortunately the mascara DOESN'T clump, in fact it looks quite natural and it gives your lashes heaps and heaps of volume. This is an ideal mascara for people with smaller lashes who are looking for something to give them more volume and ooomph. This mascara certainly does and it lasts for around three months after opening - so it's not too bad in terms of value.
This is a really nice mascara and it really does give your lashes volume as promised.
One more thing - I have VERY fair lashes and this mascara covers them up, leaving them dark and glossy.
A really great mascara.
This product came as part of a set I was given for Christmas two years ago. I had never really used that many products in the make up range from the body shop before. I was really surprised how suitable this product was, as I have very sensitive eyes and tend to steer away from wearing eye make up. In the past other brands have made my eyes itchy and runny, however the Body Shop Mascara has never caused any sort of irritation. It is very easy to apply as the brush is small and concise and allows you to coat even fine lashes without clumping. It is easy to remove i just use cotton wool and aquaous cream, then rinse my face with water. It creates the perfect finish to the eyelashes by enhancing the volume and length. Price wise its a middle of the range product compared to its competitors at £11.00. Dermalogically tested and great for sensitive eyes.
I'm not one who tends to swap around and change my make-up products as I prefer to stick with certain brands. However, whilst shopping on The Body Shop website some months ago I needed to add one more item to my basket to enable me to benefit from a 50% off discount code. Consequently, I made a purchase of their Super Volume Black Mascara and this review discusses my experience with using the product.
~~ APPEARANCE OF THE PRODUCT ~~
The mascara is fairly basic in appearance with the product name and a small image of an eye and I received 10 ml in a 12½ cm length tube with a chrome coloured lid. What was pleasing to note is that the tube was cellophane sealed so I had the assurance that I was receiving a brand new product. Whilst I am not suggesting that The Body Shop dispatch used goods to their customers I am always wary of buying unsealed products, particularly those to be used on the eyes. The cellophane has two lines of perforations running the entire length of the tube, so opening was extremely easy.
~~ USING THE MASCARA ~~
Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with long eyelashes, but have always been able to achieve a natural look with the aid of a few brands of mascara. Those that I generally tend to use offer a tapered brush to enable easy application to the corners of the eyes, so when I witnessed what I would describe as a basic style brush I was rather disappointed. The wand is of a good length to enable easy grip and a reasonable amount of the good consistency product is dispensed onto the brush and I didn't find myself wiping any excess onto the side of the tube.
I've yet to find a mascara that doesn't offer an aroma, but I can't admit to being keen on the smell that this offered, as I found it rather strange and totally different to other brands that I've used. Application is easy, as the brush is fairly narrow and as a consequence, reaching the inner lashes is unproblematic. Fortunately, I've got a reasonably steady hand when applying make-up, so it is rare that I touch my eye lids and/or skin situated directly beneath my lower lashes.
The mascara offers a fairly good and even coverage without clumping although I always opt for a second coat and for a dramatic and sultry appearance I will apply a third. The mascara stays where it is intended and does not flake or run, but it did not provide any curl, so it was necessary to use my eye lash curlers. I regularly apply Viscotears gel to my eyes, as I often suffer with a dry and scratchy sensation. However, I would point out that this condition is not caused by any adverse effects due to the products that I use as it was diagnosed many years ago and is a symptom of another condition with which I suffer.
As this is not a waterproof mascara I was wary as to how it would react when applying my Viscotears. Fortunately, there was no running, particularly as I am very careful when applying the gel precisely to the corners of my eyes. Whilst The Body Shop has named this "Super Volume" I cannot admit to flashing around super lashes, which is the look I like to create. However, it is a good quality mascara that I would only really use again in the case of emergencies. If you're looking to simply coat your lashes and give a little thickness I would recommend, but sadly it did not give my lashes the flattering wow factor. The mascara is easily removed as I always use Tesco own brand baby lotion on cotton wool balls to remove my eye make up, as it is cheap and efficient and enables my more expensive products to last much longer. For the reasons stated above this mascara receives 4 stars from me.
~~ INGREDIENTS AND OTHER INFORMATION ~~
There is an extremely lengthy list of ingredients contained within this mascara, which are available on The Body Shop website. However, those that are key are the Community Fair Trade marula oil and the Community Fair Trade beeswax. The mascara has been ophthalmologically tested and is suitable for wearers of contact lenses. The mascara should be used within 6 months of opening and I'm assuming the tube is not recyclable due to the non appearance of the familiar recycling symbol.
~~ PRICE ~~
You can purchase The Body Shop Super Volume Mascara for £10.00.
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
I initially got this because it came as a freebie. I'd never have bought it myself since volume is never one of my deciding factors in a mascara. I am so so glad that i tried it though because i have used nothing else since then.
The mascara is easy to apply, the shape of the brush seperates the lashes nicely and effortlessly. Unlike all the other mascaras that i have tried, it goes on with just one stroke which really quite pleasing. I also find that if i accidently rub my eyes it does not end up all over my face. Very useful.
The mascara is a little more difficult to remove, no matter how careful i am removing it of an evening, it still needs removing again in the morning. I don't count this as a real negative since i am so pleased with the way it wears the rest of the time.
A bargain price for what you get. This little product really has no down sides.
I like to change my mascara's quit a few times a month to see what good one's our out there on the market.
The thought of the body shop didnt really appeal to me but i looked through the shop and i found this mascara; super volume mascara. i thought most mascara's dont really do what they say but i thought i give it a try.
To my surprise it really did give my lashes a super volume and i was amazed.
It's a good price of £10.00 from the body shop of course and its well worth the money.
you will be able to pick up this product from any body shop store, and the website which is simple and easy to use's if you like ordering off websites.
i think that this mascara's is well worth its money and will do what it says, but i wont be rushing to buy it again as i have still to make my way through many more mascara's out there :)
Ahhh. This little product is my best friend. I always wear mascara, regardless of any other make mascara is a must for me and this one is great.
The wand it fabulous and really grabs the lashes and gives them and even coating of the make up and lifts them up. It is smudge resistent which is a must fr mascara as well because you need to make sure you have make up you can trust as you never know what your day is going to be like!
Its £9.75 in store so it is a little more pricey than most high street makes but with Body shop not only are you paying for top quality but you are also paying for their company values and paying to support the causes that the company invests in.
I would reommend this mascra if you have shorter lashes as I do or if you are lookig for full volume
When it comes to buying mascara, I am an absolute tart - meaning that I have no brand loyalty whatsoever. After 17 years of buying the product, I am yet to find the "perfect" mascara, so when I find myself in need of a new one, I'll buy whatever is on offer, or in this recent purchases case, whatever I have a voucher for.
The body Shop currently have six mascaras in their range, but my choice was cut down to two as I didn't want waterproof or sparkle and I wanted to stay under the £10 mark. As I have fairly long lashes already, I passed on the Define and lengthen (for fear of looking like a panto dame!) and I decided to go for the super volume product. I purchased it in black but it is also available in brown and blue.
The product comes in stylish, simple packaging. The tube is a sparkly dark grey colour, and the lid/ wand is silver. The whole product is a little over 12cm long, so it fits nicely in an average makeup bag - I seem to recall years ago that the Body Shop mascaras came in an extra long tube that wouldn't fit in my make up bag, which is possibly why I haven't owned a Body Shop mascara for a while! I have been using this for two months now, there is not the slightest bit of mess or clumps around the top and consequently the lid still screws and unscrews easily.
The wand itself is also 12cm long from the tip of the brush to the end of the lid so it gets to the bottom of the bottle and so there shouldn't be too much wasted because the brush cannot get to it. I find the bristled wand really easy to use; it rests in your hand nicely and feels comfortable. The brush holds the product well and I never find myself pumping it in order to load the bristles, it does not get overloaded though and you do not get the excess product at the end which invariably causes clumping. The brush is about the length of your eye, so it only takes a few strokes to get a good coverage, apparently it is a "specially designed" brush - but aren't they all?!
The actual product has quite a creamy consistency, and it has a lot more fluidity than most other mascaras that I have tried, which is probably why it covers the lashes so well. It does not add too much length (which is ideal for me) but is definitely adds volume, especially at the base of the lashes if you wiggle the applicator whilst applying. It achieves this effect by covering every single lash, rather that clumping them together which leaves you with a more natural look.
I believe that the general advice it to use two thin coats rather than one thick coat, but it is tricky to do that with this mascara. Firstly, because it is "wetter" it takes longer to dry, and secondly it is difficult to apply two coats without clumping appearing. I find this tricky as I generally touch up during the day, and I simply cannot do that with this mascara without the panda affect happening, however you don't need to touch up too much as this mascara stays firmly put!
Even when fully dry, this product does not go rock hard. It maintains a certain amount of flexibility so it feels light and comfortable and you barely notice that you are wearing it - this is probably because it contains marula oil and beeswax, so it maintains a soft waxy finish. I have an awful habit of picking solid mascara off, or messing with it until it crumbles, but as this is a lot softer, I have so far resisted the urge! I have never found that it has smudged under my eyes during the day, even though I rub my eyes a fair amount (I don't sleep well!) however it is easy to get it off when you want it off. I use face wash in the evening, and it comes away easily but if you have missed a bit it washes off towels and pillowcases without any hassle.
This mascara comes in a 10ml tube, has a six month shelf life and it costs £9.75, so it is not the cheapest around at all and I probably wouldn't pay that much for mascara if I hadn't had a voucher. Having said that, it is a good, easy product to use and I do like it a lot. This mascara is not far off being perfect, and I would buy it again and recommend it if you are looking for volume.
I bought this mascara looking for a ridiculously volumising mascara to complement my vampy liquid eyeliner, looking for big lash without false eyelashes. To be blunt, I was very disappointed. This product will not make your lashes look like a showgirl, the name of the product is highly misleading. So why the 4 stars?
After recovering from my initial disappointment, I discovered that this mascara is actually one of the best I've ever used. So much so in fact, that if it was named "natural volume mascara" it would be getting 5 stars here instead of 4. I should point out that I've only used the black mascara, there is also brown and blue.
The packaging is as above but there are details that the picture doesn't show. The tube is a dark, muted forest green with tiny golden glittery flecks that make it very attractive. The writing is small and slim and not intrusive. The lid is chrome effect and screws on (like most mascaras!). The overall effect is subtly classy in my mind.
The wand is obviously critical in the effect a mascara will have (more so than the liquid itself) and here the Body Shop have gone for an old faithful: big, dense, spiral bristles. This is a good choice. With volume you want full coverage and slight clumping (definitely not defined and separated) and this wand type delivers.
*PRODUCT AND RESULTS*
Unusually, the product itself also has a role in the effect given. The lashes simply will not clump with this mascara, thus reducing the volumising effect. This as I said was initially a big let down, but in the end I found that in place of a dramatic effect I had a subtle natural volume instead.
The liquid is thinner than some mascaras, which is a little scary when you're not used to it but it means that you have an even coating along the length of your lashes. There is a lot of pigment in the mascara so the colour will not disappoint. The thinness also means that your lashes are left soft, not stiff, which I find to be much more comfortable.
10ml is £9.75, a little more expensive than some of the mascara out there. This is by no means a unique mascara, in fact when compared to others there is nothing to distinguish it and make it stand out to be chosen above others, but if you're a Body Shop fan you won't mind. Personally, I find the lack of gimmicky marketing a relief.

From: The Body Shop
For: Lasting volume for lashes
The packaging is quite nice, but it looks quite cheap compared to most Body Shop products. The tube is the usual size for a mascara, and it has a twist-off lid with the brush attached to the inside of the lid.
The brush is horrible. It's the usual old-fashioned bristle brushes with the bristles arranged in a spiral pattern. The spiral is very widely spread and the bristles are not densely packed. The mascara therefore tends to clump in certain places on the brush rather than coating it evenly.
Applying it is easy enough and it does go on quite smoothly, but the brush is quite large so it's not easy to get the corner lashes without ending up with big blobs of mascara on your skin.
It coats the lashes quite nicely and does give them added volume, but it clumps very easily, especially if you want to apply more than one coat. One coat gives quite a natural look with just a bit of added volume, but for a more dramatic look you do need to apply more coats, and that's when it starts to look really clumpy.
It stays on pretty well all day but it does smudge easily if you touch it, and it does transfer colour onto the skin under my eyebrows, which is not a good look.
All in all this is a pretty rubbish mascara.
Thumbs down from me.
First time I got this it was part of a mini set that they give for holydays when you spent over a certain amount in they shop. Out of the set, when I have used the products I must say that nothing grabbed my attention in particular except for this mascara. When my 2.5ml mini version ran out I repurchased.
What impresses me about it is the brush. From all the mascaras I tried this one is the best because of the it. It has smaller and bigger bristles that go all around it; I wish all mascaras now to have the same thing.
The brush allows a very good precise application that does not over apples product on the lashes. In this way you can easily build volume, length.
The mascaras might tend to come off and crumble after a while from your lashes under your eyes. Most of the mascaras if you try to remove them they smudge the colour, but this one simply crumbles. It does however it does has a decent staying power.
I love this mascara!
If you have read any of my previous mascara reviews, you may know that I am a bit of a mascara tester. I like to shop around for the best deals on them. I accidentally stumbled across this mascara in a free gift pack that I received following some Body shop purchases. I over looked it until I ran out of my other mascara and found this almost via emergency :o)
I was very pleased with it from the first use.
Granted, it does not have the nice bottle contours or the easy grip lids that I like for mascara application but the product makes up for that. I liked the consistency and it lives up to its description as a 'clump free formula'.
It lengthened and thickened my eyelashes and lasts for a while. It doesn't go hard and start to crumble off, it lasts a whole day and leaves my eyelashes feeling soft and is easy to remove. The mascara wand is a great size too as it has a very wide and full head which makes application a delight.
By far, my favourite mascara and a highly recommended product. Well done Bodyshop!
I have tried so many mascaras it isn't even funny. There was a time not so long ago when I wanted a mascara that would make my lashes super doper long and fake looking for when I went out and that would tone down that look a little for during the day. I found that mascara, Bourjois, Coup De Theatre. Now I am slightly more natural with my look but still expect a lot from my mascara. I want my lashes to be clump free and well defined, I want length and I also want it to last.
Almost a year ago I bought some odds and ends through The Body Shops website and because I had spent over a certain amount I could buy a makeup bag containing a few items for £5.00. I cannot remember all the items now but one of these items was a small size mascara, this mascara. Since I have ended up with another two similar bags through such offers, both contained another of these mascaras and I am officially hooked on this product because of them!
These small testers, contain just 2.5ml but have each lasted me quite a while. Usually each tube, I suppose you would call it a tube, is 10ml so would last me four times longer than these small ones. They cost £10.00 for the full size which is no different from what I have been using.
The packaging is nothing exciting, shimmery black plastic for the main body of the packaging and the lid is silver metal.
The wand is pretty normal apart from the bristles go in a corkscrew down the brush rather than just being rings of bristles like most.
The product hidden inside it thinner than some mascaras I have previously used, this isn't a bad thing like it sounds, it is actually one of the reasons this is such a great product!
Where it is thin you get hardly any clumpiness at all! Where it is thin you can apply it without any clumping and excess in areas that you don't want it to be. This makes the overall look from one coat absolutely brilliant, it doesn't look like you have put in too much effort and also doesn't look completely unnatural. If you wanted a very natural look then this mascara in brown would be ideal.
Also where it is thin you don't end up with your lashes down near the lash line all stuck together looking as if you actually have less there than you do, this is the definition I was talking about wanting earlier. Even though you get added volume without ending up with spiders legs for eye lashes.
I find that if I curl my lashes first then apply this mascara the look I end up with is nothing short of brilliant! If I don't use my eyelash curlers the look is still great but without as much impact.
I find this is not easy to smudge, doesn't tend to flake and lasts all day without being a nightmare to remove at night. I can't really complain about it in any way apart from one. The fact that it is so thin gives many advantages but one disadvantage. It can flick specks onto my skin while I am applying it, although easily removed it is a bit of a pain but I can more than happily live with that small problem for all the other things, which make this my new favourite mascara!
This only comes in two shades, black and brown. I wouldn't use any other colour mascara so am not in the slightest bit bothered about that but I am sure some people will be.
At £10.00 it isn't exactly cheap but at the same time it isn't the most expensive mascara I have ever come across either. I think it is great for the money and will certainly be sticking with it, not that I don't have several others on the go right now that I really should use up!
If you are in the market for a new mascara but want to try it like I have before you commit £10.00 to owning it look out for offers like I ended up getting so you get freebies for spending what you would anyway!
I highly recommend this mascara, it doesn't perform miracles but it does make my lashes super!

The Body Shop is involved with many charities and foundations, information on these can be found through links on their website. None of their products are tested on animals. They also run their own version of fair trade, which they call community trade, they pay fair prices to farmers of the ingredients they buy. Details of their community trade programme can also be found on their website.
The website is very user friendly and means not only can you buy online (good P&P charges and fast delivery) but you can also find out more about their products and find out where your local store is situated.
I love the body shop product because they do not test on aminals and have such a wide range of products.
I have recently been giving aload of body shop make up as a present and this mascara was part of the it.
The masacara has a normal brush and comes in 10ml and comes in Black and brown, And costing £9 , however the website is saying £10. So could have gone up.
I love my mascara, if i had to live with one piece of make up it would be that. I have big eyes and so love mascara as it helps to bring them out, and i've used many different brands. However was scepital on how good this was going to be.
In all honesty i was presently suprised and it did do what it said, their was no clumps, no smudges however it didn''t give me too much volume and the colour was a natural black.
so if you are looking for a more intense black then do not go for this, however it is a good day mascara but if i was going out for the evening and wanted a dramatic look then this mascara is not for you.
