Advantages: Coats my lips well, SPF 15, easily portable
Disadvantages: Not quite as nice as lip butter
A little while ago I decided that it was about time I started sorting out my cupboards and drawers - not before time I might add. I always end up finding something that I had forgotten I had and this time was no exception. The little gem in question was a tube of Body Shop Vitamin E Lip Care SPF 15.
Now as you may already know I am one of those people who just cannot stand my lips being dry and I suffer from this problem all year round. In the summer the wind and sun dries them out and in the winter the cold weather does the job. To make matters worse I find myself constantly licking my lips and then wiping them dry.
Consequently I have all sorts of different lip balms in drawers around the house and more in my handbags. Some of them are in little pots, some of them are in little plastic tubes and some of them are the lipstick style ones
The one I discovered in my bedroom drawer was a lipstick style one and by that I mean it is in a cylindrical container similar to a lipstick in size and shape only not as posh! In fact this one is quite plain being light pink in colour with a clear plastic top and having the name of the product along the side in English and then again in French. There is also the Body Shop logo in green and a list of the contents of the lip saver.
I have just taken a quick look at the Body Shop website for the current price and discovered that the 4.4g of lip care currently costs £3.90.
As you might guess being the Body Shop the lip care comes just as it is with no extra packaging. I say 'as you might guess' because the Body Shop are known to be environmentally friendly and don't test any of their products on animals so you know that any products purchased here with have good ethical credentials. The oils that are contained in many of their products are purchased from growers who are being helped to support their local environment.
To use the lip care all you have to do is remove the clear plastic top and twist the screw at the other end of the tube which makes the lip saver appear out of the top of the tube - obviously twisting the other way will make it go back again so you can put the lid back on! You then just apply the creamy white balm to your lips in exactly the same way as you would apply lipstick and using the same sort of amount as lipstick. It also feels the same as lipstick on your lips when you apply it. In fact you can use it underneath your normal lipstick.
There is almost no taste to this lip balm which is an advantage to me because, if the balm tastes nice, I keep licking my lips meaning that I have to keep reapplying! It does actually have vanilla in it but, although I can just about smell it I can't taste it.
When I use this product I find that my lips feel instantly hydrated, smooth and comfortable. My lips also have a light sheen to them when I use this product. The other good thing for me is that it has an SPF of 15. In the summer we sell lifeboat souvenirs here on the prom at Llandudno and when it is sunny (ha ha) we are in direct sunlight so we all wear sun cream and a lip saver with added protection is a bonus.
The lip balm contains Vitamin E which is apparently an antioxidant which helps protect the skin against the damaging environment such as the sun and pollution. It also contains coconut and olive oil to help to condition the lips.
It even provides care and protection in extreme weather and since our cottage is at the top of the Great Orme in Llandudno where it gets VERY windy, this is important.
The little tube is small enough to fit in the smallest of handbags so I can take it anywhere with me for instant relief.
In conclusion I have enjoyed using this product and it is excellent although I have to confess that I do prefer the lip butters that the Body Shop make so it is just 4 stars from me on this one.
Summary: A great product but not quite my favourite
