“ Brand: The Body Shop / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye „
I was about to go on holiday to Portugal, my first ever beach holiday, and was wondering if I should get some waterproof mascara. I know wearing makeup to the beach or by the pool is probably a bit silly, but my natural eyelashes are very pale, and considering I dye my hair dark brown, I can look a bit silly without a coat of mascara! The waterproof stuff isn't something I usually buy, so I wasn't sure where to start. Graygirl wrote an excellent review of Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara, and having tried the original Lancome mascara I had intended to try this. However I then decided I didn't want to spend a fortune just for one week, and thought about looking elsewhere.
I chose The Body Shop Waterproof Mascara by chance. I had a £5 voucher I obtained from In Style magazine, and found this mascara in a local BS store with 50% off, so it was now £5 instead of £10. I exchanged the voucher for this mascara and decided to give it a go. Naturally I decided to test it out before going on holiday to make sure it worked!
The mascara comes in attractive packaging, a green tube with a silver lid. It was slightly tricky to apply as it seemed a little dry and seemed to drag a bit; though I wondered if this was a feature of all waterproof mascaras (I really haven't had much experience with them!). However, it made my eyelashes look nice, longer and slightly thicker with no clumps. I was happy with the way my eyes looked when using this mascara.
Unfortunately, I was far from happy with the waterproof properties of the mascara! I tried splashing water on my face and the mascara smudged really easily. I really wasn't impressed. It seemed to me just like a normal mascara! It was also easily removed with normal cleanser, which wasn't reassuring - it strikes me that waterproof mascara should at least be a little more difficult to remove than normal mascara!
I was very disappointed with this mascara, particularly as it meant I had to go out and buy another waterproof mascara. It certainly isn't worth £10, and I'm very glad I only used a giftcard from a £2 magazine to buy it! It's fine as a normal mascara, and I'm using it as an everyday mascara to use it up - but as a waterproof mascara it's completely useless I'm afraid. Only two stars from me.
