“ Brand: Topshop / Type: Eyeliners / Suitable for: Eye „
I bought this Topshop Kohl eye liner on a whim, sort of an impulse buy while in a trip to Plymouth. I needed a new eyeliner and decided to try it out. It was £4 and I bought it in the shade 'Coal'. I tried it out in the shop on my hand and it gave a smokey effect. It is a soft Kohl, giving a smokey grungy effect.
The pencil is a cream colour with a very cutesy girly black polka dot pattern and the end of the pencil has a thick black line. 'KOHL' is written on on the side in a crayon like font and there isn't much else to the design. The lid is a simple plain cream plastic lid which just slides on.
The eye liner itself smudges very well which is good if you are going for a grungy look, but it can transfer easily onto hands and upper eyelids after a couple of hours of wear so be prepared for it to look a little bit messy. The liner works very well, and blends in with other make up such as eye shadows and mascara nicely, giving you a seamless look. It is very velvety and has a deep colour but is rather plain, with no glitter or sparkles so may need some extra eye shadows to add a bit of pizzazz if you wanted to dress it up a little.
The pencil does go blunt quite quickly so you do have to sharpen it quite often to keep it use-able, and if you try to use it un-sharpened, the wood on the pencil will scratch your eye lids.
Also, you can't put the lid on the end of the pencil without the lid getting a crack on the side. This is irritating as you either have to find somewhere to put the lid, or end up with a cracked lid which is not what I paid for.
Otherwise, it's a good eye liner, and even if I didn't like it, its not a huge waste of money seeing as it was only £4. About average really. Would like it better if it didn't smudge so much.
I have about six eyeliners at the minute and this one from Topshop is by far the poorest quality out of all of them and I don't know why I've kept it as I barely ever use it - I think I'll be binning it once I have written this review to be honest!
Other than the cute design of the pencil I can't really think of anything good to say about it. I bought it around a year and a half ago and if I remember right it was around the £8 mark which for an eyeliner is pretty expensive in my opinion and because of the price I expected it to be a lot better than it actually is.
The eyeliner pencil is really cute and girly and it stands out by a mile amongst my others. It is white with black dots all over it and it also has a lid which which I like as it keeps the pencil nib hygienic and fresh. There's a little coloured part on the end of the pencil which shows what colour the eyeliner is which I also like, however seeing as I just have it in black it's not that useful.
If you had like six of them though in different colours this little feature would come in really helpful when it comes to telling which one is which without having to take all the lids off. There are a few different colours available including brown, purple and blue but as I said I have it in black. The eyeliner nib is very soft and waxy and it is not very sturdy and if I press too hard it will break up and leave little waxy blobs behind.
This makes it hard to sharpen and it also becomes flat really quickly and it is not very precise so I always end up with really thick, heavy eyeliner, which I don't like - I prefer my eyeliner to look neat and precise. The eyeliner smudges really easily with no effort at all, which is ok for when I want a very dramatic smoky eye but it doesn't look right when I am just going for a casual minimalistic daytime look.
The colour of the black eyeliner is not intense or rich, it is more of a washed out grey shade and it fades and goes patchy very easily and doesn't really stay in place, eg if I sneeze I will have to check my eyeliner because it usually starts to smudge and run if my eyes get even a tiny bit wet.
I have used it on my bottom lash line quite a few times and always need to tidy up around the edges afterwards with a damp cotton bud to get off the large amount of excess it leaves but I've never attempted to use it on my upper lash line for a 'feline flick' because it is not orecise enough and I know it'd be too thick and look really messy.
The lasting power is not good at all. It begins to go patchy really easily and after a few hours my eyeliner looks old, faded and messy. It is easy to remove, however it tends to blob up and gather in the corners of my eyes if I leave it on for more than a few hours so I have to be really careful removing it else it can irritate my eyes.
I definitely would not recommend this eyeliner and I give it 1 out of 5 stars.
After being a massive fan of everything Topshop when their makeup range hit the shelves I was full of optimism and in the few Topshop cosmetics that I have tried they have not let me down at all! One of the first items that I purchased from the range was the eyeliner. I never usually go a day without wearing eyeliner as I find that it really defines my eyes and makes me look awake despite having only 4 hours sleep or something like that!
The design of the eyeliner is so cute, it is predominantly white with cute black polka dots all over it. It comes with a plastic lid to ensure that the eyeliner does not end up scribbling on the inside of your makeup bag or that the nib of the eyeliner is not broken off. The design is what initially grabbed my attention and I think that it is really cute and distinguishable and looks great amongst my other makeup in my make up bag.
The eyeliner is very soft meaning that it doesn't scratch or drag so it is comfortable to apply. Sometimes, when it is newly sharpened, it needs to be rubbed against a surface like a piece of paper to blunt the point so that it doesn't scratch my eyes but that it commonplace with most eyeliners. The colour of the eyeliner is really bold and matte meaning that it makes for a very dramatic look which is great for nights out but not really for work unless you are careful to only apply it very lightly.
The difficulty that I have with this eyeliner is that it smudges quite easily especially when you are first applying it so I always apply it first even before my foundation etc as if it goes wrong it is easy to remove it with a makeup wipe rather than trying to remove it from that specific area.
Overall, I do like the eyeliner and tend to use it more for nights out and smudge it myself to create the smoky eye look. This eyeliner is just £4 so it is an absolute steal!
I have been a fan of the Topshop eyeliners for a few months now and I have the Kohl eyeliner in Saddle (Light Brown), Bolt (Navy Blue), and Slate (Grey) and I love them all. It is also available in black but I have so many black eyeliners that I didn't see much point in getting another! The eyeliner is the same size as an average eyeliner pencil but a little thicker and as you can see from the Dooyoo picture, it is white in colour with an adorable polka dot pattern all over it which makes it distinguishable amongst my other eyeliners. On the side of the pencil it reads 'kohl' in bold writing. The pencil comes with a plastic lid to keep the nib of the pen protected which is great as it puts my mind at rest that the pencil nib can not get squashed or mishapen when it's in my makeup bag.
The eyeliner formula is nice and soft and just the right size for me, it glides on very easily and the colour is nice and bold and intense, it really enchances my eyes and brightens them up, the eyeliner makes them look so much more noticeable, bigger and sexier. The colour stays on the skin well without melting away and it doesn't irritate my eyes at all. It is a soft and blendable texture, however it does smudge if i'm not careful when applying it and I often have to neaten it up after application because it tends to bleed (very) slightly. It goes on smoothly and doesn't drag on the waterline, and just one coat is more than enough to achieve a bold look. The eyeliner smudges very easily to create a smoky eye however if you're not into this kind of look then it will be fine for you to use too as long as you're extremely careful and apply it on as neat as possible.
The longevity of the eyeliner is great and it lasts for around 8-10 hours without blotching or gathering in the corner of my eyes however it is not waterproof so obviously if it becomes wet it will run and not last for that long. Sharpening the eyeliner is easy however due to the soft texture it is important to do it carefully. This eyeliner is very similar in texture and pigmentation to the MAC smoulder eyeliner which is more than three times the price so I think this is well worth £4 and I will definetly be buying a few more.
