Urban Decay All Nighter Make Up Setting Spray
Advantages: Fantastic product that saved my 'face'!!
Disadvantages: Nothing negative to report about the product at all.
Last year, I was lucky enough to get married abroad - in the USA - and my husband and myself really had a magical day that we will never forget.
During my intensive research into our wedding and whilst making the plans and arrangements, I was informed that the weather on our Big Day would most likely be extremely hot and of course I took this into consideration when buying my wedding dress and the like as I wanted to be as comfortable as possible.... I certainly didn't fancy trailing a huge veil and meringue combo about in the blazing sunshine!
As I was getting my hair and make-up done professionally in a beauty salon on the morning of the wedding, I was anxious about the heat and sunlight interfering with the results and in particular I was concerned about my make-up smudging or running and ruining the finished look... I was terrified that my wedding photographs would be a disaster as a result of the extreme temperatures we had been told to expect.
With this in mind, I set about doing some research, and I eventually found out about a product from the 'Urban Decay' brand of make-up and cosmetics. It seemed to be recommended quite highly and I thought it was certainly worth a try. I was particularly interested in trying this product, as it claimed to be "formulated to resist moisture", which is of course a polite way of saying that it won't 'sweat off' as it were! I thought this was particularly relevant to my own specific requirements!
Anyway, I set about trying to find the spray for myself which didn't prove to be too difficult as I knew a local branch of Debenhams had an 'Urban Decay' counter within its cosmetics department. When I approached the sales clerk and explained what I was looking for, she produced the exact product I had been looking for - a bottle of 'All Nighter' spray. I will confess that I was slightly dubious about shelling out some of my precious wedding savings for such a basic-looking product, but at £17 for the 118ml bottle, (which is what I paid at the time) I figured that if it would save my make-up on our big day, it would certainly have been money well spent.
Luckily enough, I had several occasions to try out the product as I had a Hen night as well as a more formal family 'bridal shower', and of course on both occasions, as the Bride-To-Be, I was in my best attire, complete with a full face of make-up and freshly coiffed hair-do.
The Urban Decay All Nighter spray is actually very easy to use. I'm not sure exactly what I had been expecting, but I guess that the simple 'spritz' liquid spray wasn't it?! To use, all I had to do was ensure that my freshly made-up face was completely dry and begin by shaking the plastic bottle of solution very well. Then, holding the plastic 'nozzle' about 10 inches from my face, I simply had to 'spritz' or 'mist' the spray over my face 2 - 4 times. Well, according to the outer box for the product, 2 - 4 times should be sufficient, but please bear in mind I was giving the product a trial out for the intense USA sunshine and I had to be sure that the product was going to be sufficient to keep my make-up where it belonged... on my face and not on my gorgeous ivory wedding dress! So, on the two or three occasions that I tried out the product before we departed for our holiday of a lifetime, I took no chances, and spritzed the product all over my face, heaps of times, and ensured no 'patch' of face or neck was untouched.
Considering how much of the product I used each time, I was quite surprised at how 'light' it felt as I was using it, and in actual fact once the 'wet' feeling of the spritzed product had passed, there was little or no difference to how my make-up 'felt' on my skin normally, and after using the All Nighter spray. To me, this was a huge plus point, as I had imagined a rather 'caked-on', heavy feeling which would have been very off-putting I'm sure.
The results were actually fairly impressive. In the case of my Hen night, I had returned home at some rather ungodly hour, wrapped in streamers, feather boas and many other items of pre-wedding paraphernalia. Falling into bed at goodness-knows-when, and under the influence of goodness-knows-what-alcoholic beverage(s), I had of course omitted to remove my make-up in the normal 'skin-friendly' manner that I usually try to adopt. It was some surprise then, to awake the following afternoon (having slept through most of the day) with what appeared to be a near-perfect full face of make-up. Yes, my mascara had smudged around one eye, but other than that, I could see very little in the way of differences between my made-up face the night before and the one staring back at me from the mirror on this occasion. If there WERE differences, then they were fairly minimal ones.
Trying the product out once or twice more allowed me to gain similar results to that of my hen night and I was therefore satisfied that my wedding day make-up stood a better chance of survival after being 'set' with the use of the Urban Decay All Nighter product than without it. With that, it was duly packed into the humungous sized make-up bag that contained just about every cosmetic and make-up tool that Boots had to offer, and off it went with me on my trip of a lifetime.
On the Big Day itself, my sister, mother and I returned from the beauty salon with champagne in hand, and set about getting ready. My mother and sister both used the Urban Decay All Nighter spray as their worries about the intense heat interfering with their beautifully made-up faces were similar to my own and I was able to demonstrate how to spritz the spray properly over the face. Even though my mother wears contact lenses, she had no problem with the spray irritating her eyes, which had been a concern she'd had and which I personally hadn't thought of. Similarly, even though my sister has extremely sensitive skin and patches of eczema on her face, the Urban Decay spray didn't cause her any aggravation or sensitivity and they both wore the product sprayed over their make-up all day(and night!) without incident.
As for me, well, I must admit I was extremely impressed with the results achieved from using the Urban Decay spray, and I do feel that the staying power of the product was really put to the test on our Big Day. In a dramatic twist of fate, our wedding day was actually bang in the centre of a huge heat wave (even the locals were aghast at the high temperatures and we witnessed two of them fainting in the heat) and I have no doubts whatsoever that without the use of the All Nighter spray my make-up wouldn't have lasted until lunchtime, never mind all day.
As it was, my perfectly made-up face remained thus all day, without so much as a smudge, a run or a mark. My make-up in each and every one of my wedding photographs is immaculate, pristine and looks exactly as it should, and well, I will be forever thankful to this rather boring-looking plastic little bottle. I am in no doubt at all that this spray allowed me to save face.... Quite literally!
I have continued to use the Urban Decay All Nighter spray for special occasions and nights out and it is only now nearing the end of the bottle. That is ten months use that I have had from the product, and so the purchase price doesn't seem to be quite so steep now that I know the results achieved are worth forking out for. I feel that the product is a permanent addition to my cosmetic collection and quite honestly, I wonder now how I ever survived without it - especially when I am abroad on holiday to a warm climate! I think that the product deserves full marks and I have recommended it to just about anybody who will listen!
The Urban Decay All Nighter Spray can be bought online at www.debenhams.co.uk, where the price is now £19.00 for the 118ml bottle. Some larger branches of Debenhams and other department stores have an Urban Decay counter in their cosmetics department and you can also buy the product from there.
Summary: I can't imagine not using this product on a special occasion now... It's a god send!!
