Bronzer is part of my daily make up routine so I am always on the look out for a good product, and I recently bought this Urban Decay 'baked' bronzer as a little treat for myself. This bronzer is available in any shop that stocks Urban Decay make up and currently costs £20.00.
The bronzer is available in 3 shades - baked, toasted and gilded. Baked is a warm brown shade with shimmer in it. Toasted is a matte shade and the darkest of the three. Gilded is a golden bronze shade with shimmer and little flecks of gold. I chose the baked shade as I felt this would suit me the best.
Urban Decay advertise this bronzer as being made in a unique way - they claim it is a fine powder which is baked on a terra cotta disc for 24hours. So it is 'baked' in the literal sense of the word! The powder comes in a 7.5g compact. The base is a golden colour and the lid is clear with the Urban Decay logo and the name of the product on it. You can see the product through the lid.
The product should be applied using a large powder brush. I swirl the brush in the product then dust it over my face as well as my neck/shoulders depending on what I am wearing. This product can also apparently be applied to the body using a damp sponge to create a bronzed look, however I have never used it in this way. When using this on my face I always apply it over foundation, although it could be used on bare skin for those of you lucky enough not to need foundation!
I find the baked shade makes my skin a lovely brown colour and gives it a nice shimmer. It is a very natural shade and isn't too dark or orange. The product applies evenly and there are no streaks or patches. When I have used this product it lasts me all day and I do not need to reapply, which is a must have for me with a bronzer.
This bronzer in the baked shade is medium bronze in my opinion. As we are now coming into the winter months and I have lost my lovely summer tan, I find it is a little bit too dark for day to day use, and instead I save this product for an evening out when I am wearing fake tan on my body. The product makes my face the same colour as my body. However for those of you with darker skin this product could be used during the day as well for a fairly natural look. Alternatively you could choose the gilded shade which is a bit lighter than the baked, which is probably what I would do in the future.
I do think at £20.00 this product is quite expensive, as there are many more bronzing products available out there that are much cheaper. For this reason I keep this product for special occasions and use a cheaper bronzer for work. Also for the price of £20.00 I would expect the product to have either a mirror or a brush included, neither of which are included, so for this reason I take one star off and give this product 4 stars.
Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review useful.
Anyone who knows me will know that, me and fake tan do not mix. We never have been allies in the beauty department and probably never will...until I tried a new brand specifically tailored for fair complexions and absolutely loved the results! I looked so much healthier with a slight tan and was loving it! I read somewhere that you should never fake tan your face (not sure why though) and so I didn't - which presented a major problem - tanned neck and body with a very pale face! My entire make up was pale and I didn't want to fork out on a new and darker foundation as in the winter I would be returning to my old English Rose look. Then I hit me - bronzer is the way forward!
I shopped around and tried a few but couldn't get the right match. I was so disappointed, but when out shopping in Selfridges I was having a nose around the counters when I spotted the Urban Decay section. I had always been a big lover of there eye shadows so I decided to give them a go. That's where I found the Urban Decay Baked Bronzer for Face and Body and was so excited to try it! This bronzer is a baked bronzer meaning it has been literally cooked on a 'terra cotta disk' for 24 hours, which gives the powder a softer and lighter look and feel to it. I had used baked eye shadows before and loved the feel of them so I was looking forward to trying the texture of this!
Something I absolutely love about this bronzer is that it is suitable for Vegans. I used to be a Vegan when I was about 14 and now a few years later I have relaxed the diet a little but I still do not agree with the way in which animals are mistreated just so we can have a bronzer, and I'm sure you do too. But fear not no animals were harmed in the making and baking of this bronzer.
There are only three shades to choose from which is a little bit of a disadvantage in my opinion, I think a few more would make it much easier for people to pick from! They are:
Baked: This shade is predominately a warm brown with a lot of rose and burgundy undertones running throughout. If you have pink undertones when picking foundations then this is a similar concept just on a different scale. There is a fair amount of shimmer but nothing to make you appear like Christmas decoration!
Gilded: This shade is very golden with a lot of yellow undertones, I would say this would look amazing on medium skin tones as it has the right shades running through it to balance out the skin tone and make it look so natural and glowing!
Toasted: As the name suggests, this is the darkest shade of the range and has a lot of both red and golden tones running through, it is your typical bronzer shade which is much too dark for me but if you can pull it off then it would look wonderful!
After deliberating on which one to choose I ended up going for the Baked shade as it was the one that matched my fake tan the best, however I think Urban Decay should introduce a few more to this collection as it is still rather too dark for me.
The packaging is really gorgeous and looks very exotic with a gold plastic compact (roughly 3 and a half inches in diameter) its very sturdy and has a clasp on the side so if dropped its not going to break without a fight! On the top is a see through gold design that reminds me of a very chic and retro pattern, but what I love is through the pattern you can see the shade so it helps when picking the right one! To juxtapose the gold, the brand name is wrote in a pearly purple and makes a striking effect! To open you simply lift up the compact - there is no mirror which for the price I was a little disappointed at.
To apply I have to be very, very light handed and use a large fluffy brush as if I am not careful too much product is picked up and then I appear to resemble David Dickinson! Once I have got it on and blended it really well I have to say I really love the effect it gives as it adds a glow to my skin without having to damage it in the sun! I love how well it blends and the baked formula really works well as it is so soft and silky when applying. It does last for ages so I don't have to apply a setting powder over the top which could make it appear clumpy and patchy.
The product contains 7.5g which is quite a lot for a compact and as you only sweep a little onto your cheekbones a day it really does last for ages! The price differs from wherever you choose to purchase but is usually around £20, which is quite expensive but definitely worth it! The only unfortunate thing is that when I am not wearing fake tan, this is much too dark so I feel it has been wasting on that part.
You can purchase this bronzer online or at any counter that stocks Urban Decay but I would suggest going and having a look at the shades before buying as everyone is different!
I always worry about looking a little orange when using bronzer because i am so very pale. But the reason i want to use bronzer is because i look so pale! I want to look healthy rather than tanned, especially in the winter. I bought this bronzer after seeing what it did for my friend who is also of the pale and interesting variety. It didn't look like she was wearing anything, but just had a much warmer and healthier look about her.
The product is a standrad compact like disc with a nice large mount of bronzer. No mirror unfortunately, but that doesn't matter much. It does look sparkly orange but not when you apply it. My advice was to get a big brush and swipe it over the bronzer once in both directions. Then when applying, start at the centre of the forehead and bring the brush down to the top of your cheek, do a little cirlce and finish at the centre of the chin. Do the same for the other side of your face. Like a figure of eight over your face. Then you cover your face, but get a more concentrated look on your cheeks, giving you an all over warm look. As i am pale, i went for toasted which is slightly less bronze colour and it does give me and all over warmer and healthier look without the orange. Perfect for what i wanted.
I paid £12 for this and i will definately get my moneys worth because there is a lot of it and you don't need very much.
The price of this bronzer is £20.00, usually found cheaper though online, probably expect to pay around £12.00/£13.00 of somewhere like Ebay.
When I first seen the price I was shocked, I have never payed over 20 pound for any sort of make up in my life..( maybe I have but still, I forget! not for a long time anyway! ) and for a bronzer I thought this was quite expensive! I expected good results from it.
The bronzer comes in a 7.5g plastic gold round case.
It has a clear lid with a pretty gold design all over it, moon and stars and random patterns.
Over the pattern it has the Urban Decay logo and the name of the product wrote in purple.
On the back of the container is a plastic sticker which tells us this is for face and body.
Its very light and small so easy to carry around with you, it also hasn't broke on me so far and feels quite supportive, unlike a lot of others I have used!
Overall, simple but lots of bronzer cases are!
I love bronzers because they really help in making you look healthier, lets be honest who doesn't look healthier with a tan?
Bronzers are also great for helping to slim the face, and define certain parts of your face/body.
I have the shade 'Baked' but I am pretty sure there are other shades too choose from too, so have a look if your interested.
This is the first bronzer I have come across which looks so pretty inside!
it has little gold swirls embedded into the bronzer and has little specks of glitter which look really nice! but I was scared, I usually use a plain matte one so was nervous about using this, it also looked darker than the one I use.
I put my bronzer brush into the powder and swirled it around, tapped off the excess and put it onto my cheeks, the bronzer goes on so evenly and looks very natural, it also gives my face a lovely glow which makes it look 100x better than my usual one, when on my skin the gold specks are not obvious at all, I actually think thats what makes your face look glowy!
The colour is just right for my skin, it doesn't look orange and it last all day.
No breakage of the bronzer so far, and its been in my handbag a lot so this is a great thing.
I shall be swapping my £3.00 bronzer for this one!
We all know the dangers of exposing our skin to the sun but many of us still want to be tanned. Now on the market, there are so many different ways to transform ourselves into bronzed goddesses that their really is no need to put ourselves at risk of skin diseases and premature aging. One of these such products is the new Baked Bronzer for the face and body which has been created by Urban Decay.
What does the product do?
Bronzers are hardly a new product on the cosmetic scene but what makes this one special is that it has been designed for all over use and not just on the face. The product promises to give our skin that lovely sun kissed appearance that looks natural and healthy, while keeping the skin shine free. It claims that your newly bronzed skin will be streak free and completely gorgeous. Super fine powders have literally been baked together for twenty four hours in order to make this product.
At the moment, you can chose between three rather delicious shades. There is Baked which is a bronze shade with shimmer embedded inside. If you prefer a matt appearance, you can choose Toasted which comes shimmer free. The one I chose was Gilded which is a bronze shade with both shimmering particles and little flecks of gold. Gilded is also the lightest shade of bronze and I thought this would work best on my fair skin. If you like a darker shade, you can choose Baked and if you like a really deep colour then Toasted will be the one for you.
How do you use the product?
The product can be applied to the face in the normal way that you would apply a bronzer. I take a bronzing brush, sweep it over the product and apply it onto my skin. Sometimes I use it all over the face and sometimes I only use it where the sun catches my face such as my cheeks, nose and forehead. I also use it to add definition to my cheek bones so that my face looks more sculptured.
On the body, it can also be applied using a thick make up brush to gain a little covering of colour. If you want a more intense colour, you can apply the product using a damp sponge. This deepens the shade and once it's dry, it's goes back to being a powder because of the way it's been created without leaving any streaks.
This technique can take some getting used to and you'll need some help with doing your back. Personally I find this too time consuming and would rather use a different product for my body but it's fine for a general quick dusting of colour.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a handy compact that is sturdy enough to protect the bronzer but not bulky or heavy which makes it easier to carry around. The plastic colouring of the casing is bronzed and through a transparent window in the lid, you can see the product inside. The transparent window has a swirly pattern on it and purple writing.
The product itself is pretty to look at and mine has golden swirls packed into the powder. Unfortunately, no mirror comes with this packaging which makes it a pain to apply on the go and I thought a product of this price would have included one in the lid. There is also no applicator which other products in this price range generally include.
I bought my bronzer from the Lookfantastic website for £20 and the price doesn't vary far from this because the product is fairly new. Even though this is really expensive, it will last an eternity and will not need replacing for years if it is looked after properly. It can be bought from most large department stores such as Boots and it can also be bought from a variety of online websites.
Although this product is a lovely bronzer to use, the list of ingredients are not so inviting. When googling each one, there are not many which come up as being skin friendly and most of the early entries comes up as being harmful or bad for the skin. The only inviting one I could see was Jojoba Oil which softens and moisturises the skin.
I haven't had any problems with the product and it hasn't irritated my skin or made it uncomfortable but I can't say that it feels good to know your applying some of the ingredients to your face. The product hasn't caused any new spots or blemishes to form on my skin and it does help to keep my skin matt and shine free.
I absolutely love the level of coverage that Gilded gives to my fair skin. It really makes me look sun kissed without making me look like I've been tangoed. It also gives my skin a healthy sheen and the gold flecks make my complexion radiant. It is a natural coverage and can be used all over whereas if I had bought toasted, I think it would have just been suitable for my cheeks as the colour would have been too intense.
The product is simple to use and isn't messy at all. It smoothes onto my skin effortlessly and is really easy to blend in so that there are no harsh edges. This product looks great alone if you don't have time to do your make up in the morning but as with all powder based products, you'll need to moisturise and use a primer first otherwise the product will settle into fine lines and highlight dry and flaky skin. When using the product over make up, I apply it as a final touch because if a mattifying powder is applied over the top, it hides all the lovely shimmer.
All in all, this is a lovely product that has a shade and variety that should keep nearly everyone happy. I would say Gilded is perfectly suited for people will fair skin and those who are new to using a bronzer. It adds the perfect amount of colour to my face and it makes my complexion look healthy and radiant. I wouldn't but this with the intention of using it on the body but it is nice to sweep over your shoulders and chest. A lovely product, shame it's not a bit cheaper!
