Just before Christmas I sorted through my makeup and threw away anything that was more than 12 months old. That included lots of eyeshadow sets that I have had for years, which I probably should have replaced years ago.
Searching for a replacement I decided I would only buy something that contained the shades I use and had more of the light nude shades as those are the ones I tend to use most now.
I planned to buy the Urban Decay Naked palette as I had read good reviews and it seemed to fit the bill perfectly, but whilst browsing I came across this smaller set which is a palette of 6 neutral shades which they have named the Naked Basic Palette.
I ordered this online and when it arrived it was much smaller than I expected and my initial thought was that £20 was quite a lot for such a small palette. It looked much bigger in the photographs online , but the actual case size is around 4.5' by 2.5" This comes in a cardboard box and the eyeshadows are in a metallic case which has a mirror in the lid.
The case is described as soft touch which is the closure and is very good quality. My only issue is that initially I really struggled to open this case as the groove you use to open it is fairly small and I found it hard to negotiate. It has become easier , the more I have used it.
The case does not contain an applicator, but I wasn't bothered as I normally discard the applicator as I use brushes to apply.
A neutral pallete containing 6 shades , 4 light a medium and dark brown. All the shadows are a matte or semi matte finish, which I prefer . The shades are arranged light to dark and each shade is 1.3g . Each shadow is around 1.5" by 0.5"
The colours are:
Venus - an off white which is semi matte and I use this as a highlighter
Foxy - an Ivory matte , which I use as a base to cover my eyelid and even out the redness
Walk of Shame - a pale cream - slightly pink tone
Naked 2 - a nude pink/grey shade
Faint - a light brown
Crave - a deep dark brown/black shade
I use all of the shades and they all work perfectly together to create a really natural look.
There are 4 nude shades to choose from which can be used to highlight or as a base or combined.
I use a brush to apply and usually cover my eye with the ivory shade which is yellow toned so neutralises any redness and makes the perfect base to work with.
Then I use the light brown to cover the outer half of my lid and in the socket crease to create definition.
I use one of the other nudes to cover the other half of the socket , blending into the light brown.
I use the off white just under my brow to highlight which lifts the eye.
Finally I use the dark brown as an eyeliner just under the lashes from the outer edge to ¾ in to give definition under my eye.
All of which produces an almost foolproof natural look.
I do this before applying foundation as these eyes hadows are highly pigmented and if they fall under the eye, you need to use cleanser to take off which also takes off any foundation.
The darkest shade is very pigmented so less is more and if you do make a mistake I tone things down with one of the lighter shades.
The shadows are very easy to blend, cover well and I find I only need to use a small amount.
The staying power is amazing , I was really surprised that the colours stayed put all day as normally eye shadows seem to crease and disappear on my lids.
The consistency is very soft and velvety and I find that the shadows don't bleed into one another in the palette.
I like using the dark brown as an eyeliner as it creates a soft line as on me a hard dark line looks very aging and harsh.
I have sensitive eyes and haven't experienced any irritation
Would I Recommend
Absolutely this is the perfect palette for someone who likes a natural look. The shadows are very good quality, are easy to blend and last the full day. I usually run out of the lightest shade in a pallete so the fact that this one has 4 natural shades is perfect for me.
All the shades go with each other and if I am in a rush I use one of the nude shades simply to even out the colour on my lids, which makes me look less tired and it doesn't wear off and stays until I decide to take it off. Although this is a natural palette you can create a dramatic smoky look if you wish and if like me you make a mistake , simply tone it down by by using one of the other shades on top.
It might just be me ,but as I have got older I find using colour on my eyes difficult and usually end up taking the colour off and starting again with more natural shades. So being able to buy a range that just contains nude shades , means I only buy the colours I use.
I prefer using a pallete as I can't be bothered locating , opening and closing lots of different eyeshadows.
The case is strong and sturdy and will fit in your handbag and the mirror in the lid is excellent. The case is really important as I find cheap plastic cases usually break in my makeup bag.
I must admit that I thought I would use this up in no time as the shadow content looks very small but I have been using this pallette for about 3 months and I have barely scratched the surface. With other brands I used to find that I had to apply loads of shadow to cover my eye lids to even out the colour, but these shadows cover really well and you can actually see the difference they make after just applying a small amount.
This is by far the best eyeshadow palette I have ever used and overall I feel I have found the perfect range of eye shadows.

I bought mine online from Look Fantasic for £20. Debenhams and House of Fraser stock this brand as well.
