Advantages: intense colour, long wear time, edgy packaging, silky texture

Disadvantages: the price perhaps

I'd been a make-up junkie for years and still no hint of the cosmetics brand Urban Decay had ever entered my cosmetics collection. I was due for my fix so last Summer whilst in America I bought two eye shadows "Half Baked" and "Eldorado".

The Colour

Half Baked - A brilliant, bright gold it looks like powdered gold leaf. When applied it is striking - making my blue eyes gleam like sapphires imbedded in a sea of gold. This colour is so versatile that it would look amazing against all skin tones. It is my favourite eye-shadow to date.

Eldorado - A more tarnished yellowy gold than its Half Baked counterpart perhaps more complimentary to olive skin tones

Urban Decay is a highly experimental make up brand offering up colours that no other brand would dare. There are of course shadows which are far mellower yet still long lasting and of high quality. If you look hard enough they have a colour to suit everyone.

The Wear

These shadows are not for the faint hearted - they blaze, smoulder, all summoning an intensity which in my opinion no other eye-shadow can match. Previously I had been a fan of Suivez mon Regard shadows by Bourjois yet after experiencing the wild colour of Urban Decay I can't go back to my former ways!
Silky smooth in texture the shadows simply glide onto the eyelid. The formula clings to the lid so that you get maximum amount of wear time.

The Look
The colours are so vivid that I just use a single colour wash all over my lid and then at the part of the lid nearest the nose I dab a little extra shadow there so a bit goes under the eye. I leave my eyelashes plain, groom my brows and make sure that my skin is flawless and I'm good to go! You can naturally wear these shadows anyway you like and the way I wear them would probably be considered cowardly at Urban Decay make up studios. The brand itself stands for innovation, determination and fearlessness. I love looking at their website www.urbandecay.com for inspiration as they have a section "steal our looks" where they showcase their looks for the seasons - it makes you look at make up in a whole different way!

The Packaging

In my opinion Urban Decay is targeted at the younger woman who is more likely to try something new and make mistakes in the process! Bearing that in mind their packaging is streetwise and less formulaic than other beauty brands. These shadows come in a silver circular pot made out of plastic but meant to imitate tin. Although round in shape the containers are sturdy and well made (Bourjois take note!). The shadows don't come with an applicator but I prefer using my fingers for application as I find I don't get little deposits of powder underneath my eyes.

The Cost
At £11 this eye-shadow doesn't come cheap but in my opinion it's worth every penny. A little goes a long way due to the dense colour. I have had my pots for coming up to a year, I wear them fairly regularly and I have barely scratched the surface.

The Verdict

I utterly LOVE this product. If you aren't keen on spending £11 on a singular pot of eye-shadow but still want to try out Urban Decay then perhaps you should consider their "Shadow Boxes". These are simply palettes with a collection of eye-shadows and start at around £18 for a selection of 8 to 10 colours. Urban Decay is available at larger Boots and of I'm sure there are excellent offers on the internet to be had!

Summary: One of the best eyeshadows this world has ever seen!

I've still never tried any urban decay eyeshadows, I saw one in the cheap shop near me the other day for £4 but it was a goldy colour and I have so many different brands in similar shades I didn't get it but I wish I had now!
