Advantages: Looks superb

Disadvantages: The price

Last week my younger sister got back from a trip to New York that she had taken with some friends. Just before she left I jokingly remarked to her that she better bring me something nice back, as she has a habit of going away on holiday and only buying gifts for herself. I wouldn't mind this so much except for the fact that I always go out of my way to make sure I have a few little gifts to take back with me on the rare occasions I go on holiday. Anyway, when she got back last week I almost fell over with surprise when she handed me a bag full of lovely goodies. One of the presents that I received was an Urban Decay glitter liner in a lovely lilacy shade called Metalhead.

My sister obviously knows me very well as I am slightly obsessed with glittery/ colourful eyeliner at the moment. However, my limited budget has meant that I have only been able to stare longingly at more expensive brands like this whilst opting for cheaper alternatives. After lusting after products like this for quite some time you can imagine my excitement when I was given this. However, after my initial excitement I soon became concerned that I had built my hopes up too much and that the product would not live up to my expectations. I really should not have worried though as this product has exceeded my expectations and I love it!

Packaging:

I received the eyeliner in a clear plastic box which fits the eyeliner very snugly, obviously protecting the tube whilst in transit. This box carried a similar design to that on the actual tube with lots of bold purple writing all over it. Although the box fits tightly around the tube, it is easy enough to slide the eyeliner out after opening the lid. I have found the sides of the lid to be fairly sharp as it is made out of a thick plastic so this is something to be aware of if you plan on keeping it in the box. The tube of the actual eyeliner is fairly compact and a lot chunkier than cheaper brands. The tube is the same width all the way along and the lid is flush to the tube. I really like the fact that the tube is transparent so you can see the exact colour of the eyeliner and see how much you have used up.

Applying the eyeliner:

The tube has a silver screw top lid which is easy to undo because like the rest of the tube it is fairly chunky. It also is nearly the same length as the other half of the tube so it is very easy to grip. After unscrewing the lid you are greeted with a thin black wand, which looks long enough to reach to the bottom of the tube. This is always reassuring as I hate it when you have to throw away half a tube of product because you can't reach the bottom of the tube. At the end of the wand there is a brush which looks very fine; I would almost say that the brush tapers to a point at the end. At first glance I was worried that the brush would be too fine and that I would have to keep reapplying the liner, however it was better than I expected.

The fine tip of the brush really does make it easy to apply the liner. This compares really favourably to the cheaper brands that I own which have thicker brushes meaning it is near impossible to apply a thin line of glitter. However, with this one it is really easy to apply a thin line with precision and ease. I find it easier to use more of the tip of the brush when I want a thinner line or use the whole width of the brush when I want a more dramatic look. Compared to any other liquid or glitter eyeliner this is definitely my favourite when it comes to application.

When you apply the glitter liner to your eyelids, unlike other brand I have tried Urban Decay is noticeably different. The biggest difference for me is the fact that the glitter particles are really noticeable. Instead of looking like a glittery mass it is actually possible to see the individual glitter particles. This makes the overall result a lot sharper and more defined. I was certainly impressed and I did not expect the results to be this good.

Another thing I really like about this liner is the fact that when you are trying to build up the intensity of the glitter, is that you don't have to wait for each individual coat to fully dry before applying another one. With some cheaper brands if you don't wait for each coat to dry you end up taking the first layer off when you try and apply more. This has never happened with my Urban decay liner and I can build up the intensity without removing the first coat. This really does save me a lot of time as you can build up the colour quickly without much faffing about.

In comparison to other brands I have tried this also compares well in how quickly it dries. I mention this because if you are in a rush and don't have time to sit with your eyes closed you can often end up with the eyeliner sticking to the top of my eyelids when you open your eyes widely. This creates an unsightly mess and also sometimes can smudge all of your hard work. However, in my experience this liner dries relatively quickly limiting the opportunity for this to happen.

Overall opinion:

Every time I use this product I seem to become more and more enamoured with it. Put simply, it is super easy to apply, looks fantastic and is easy to remove. I really can't think of any disadvantages except for the fact that I wish I could afford to buy this brand all the time! I love it so much I'm not sure I can go back to my cheaper brands.

Summary: I adore !it

Better keep this knowledge top secret. I don't want the three makeup addict daughters finding out!
