Advantages: I have no idea...
Disadvantages: A BAD glitter eyeliner...
I have a few Urban Decay products and am quite a big fan of the 24/7 glide-on eyeliners which work really well and come in lovely colours. My family know that I like their products and so I got given a small set in the colour Midnight Cowboy. This included the glitter eyeliner - I was pretty excited to try this because I'd never tried a glitter eyeliner before. I'd seen tutorials of people using really densely packed glitter for really beautiful makeup looks and thought it would be similar with this product...
~~Product Description~~
(Urbandecay.com)
A beauty editor favorite! These arresting shades of glitter apply with precision thanks to a tiny brush, and will NOT move once dry. All the glitz of glam rock without the spandex or bad hair. These arresting shades of glitter are suspended in a clear base and apply with a tiny, precise brush. Paint thin lines with the tip of the brush, or sweeping color with the side of the brush for dramatic, jewel-encrusted eyes. Once dry, they will not budge - the glitter won't fall to your cheeks or transfer to your makeout partner's face. Make sure you let each coat dry a bit before applying the next for perfect glitter distribution.
~~Current Price & Additional Information~~
BeautyBay currently sell them for £13 per 7.5ml tubes. Other big online retailers also sell them. BeautyBay don't actually sell it in Midnight Cowboy, although the American website for Urban Decay lists this as one of the colours you can buy.
~~Ingredients~~
Aqua (Water), Polyethylene Terephthalate, Propylene Glycol, Glycerine, Acrylates Copolymer, PVP, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract, Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Polyurethane-11, PVM/MA Decadiene Crosspolymer, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben
~~Packaging~~
I own the full-sized 7.5ml product which measures 9cm with the lid accounting for 4cm. The lid is a nice dull silver/grey colour which looks really nice against the clear body of the eyeliner since the glitter looks really dense and sparkly inside. The writing on my Midnight Cowboy eyeliner doesn't look very visible against the brown glitter, especially since it reflects a lot in the light - the writing just has the name of the product and manufacturer's details.
~~My Thoughts~~
After looking at the product inside the tube, I assumed the glitter would be very plentiful, very dense and definitely show up on the eyes. Well... all those things that I assumed were wrong... The applicator looks promising; it's a very thin brush that gives you pretty good control so you can put your eyeliner where you want it. One look at the brush though, and you'll see most of the colour of the hairs on the brush i.e. it doesn't hold much glitter. The glitter is quite chunky and I was disappointed immediately...
I tried putting this on as a stand alone eyeliner. It felt quite weird and watery, although this isn't surprising as water is one of the main ingredients. After applying it close to the top and bottom lash line, it still feels weird and cooling...like you just put water there or something. The glitter looks very laughable and consequently I look very strange with uneven patches instead of a thick and gorgeously glittery, dense line of eyeliner colour. As a stand-alone eyeliner it looks rather weird, and I find that under movement you definitely notice something there but it doesn't look right... the glitter also doesn't stay in place very well either, especially where I've applied it to above the upper lash line...it's now spread north bound...
I tried putting a glitter-free eyeliner on first and then going over with the glitter eyeliner to see if this would look any better. It does look a bit better, but again you can see the patchiness since it's hard to get a nice uniform line of glitter. In fact, I felt that I was better off just not using it.
~~Overall~~
I personally wouldn't use this, but I have to say that I don't have a large eyelid that can pack huge amounts of eyeshadow onto. I think the effect would be better if I did with the glitter over the eyeshadow, but then again I wouldn't be using it as an eyeliner then! Even though it looked so promising in its tube, it really disappointed me. There was pretty much no use for such a precise brush since there wasn't even enough glitter to cover the whole thing! This experience has put me off even contemplating trying the other glitter eyeliners in this range despite the assurances from the UD website that this product is a "beauty editor favorite"!
Summary: It shouldn't even be called a glitter eyeliner! Terrible!
