Advantages: Subtle bit of glitter would is ok for highlighting
Disadvantages: Not brill at all and rather flipping rubbish!
I absolutely adore buying cosmetics. I admit I'm pulled in by the adverts on the television of beautiful women promising me 5000% thicker eyelashes or lips twice the size of Mick Jaggers and I can't seem to stop myself parting with my cash though
inside knowing the reality....the chances are this isn't going to create a brand new me or give me a brand new lease of life! It won't give me astounded results but I will be considerably lighter of pocket! Usually....
Due to the above facts my main buying in the cosmetic stakes are eye-shadows in different brands, colours and formula's. With these as long as they stay on the eyes and you like the colours you have selected of course you can transform your face in one easy step. Me, I own loads of the them (and I mean loads) and even though I can't possibly use them all in one life time (for real as I do actually only have one face after-all lol) it's the most long lasting product you can buy (in my opinion) as it's rare it ever goes off. Course I mean dry eye-shadow powders and if stored correctly and not wet/dry eye-shadows, cremes or gels so much (gels seem to split over time and that time is quick for me which is why I don't buy them very often!). Wow isn't it amazing really that there are so many formula's we can get? No wonder we confuse the hell out of men! lol
I adore the Urban Decay brand. I love everything about it....but the price. However I love the fun and funky approach to make up and feel that although I'm 34 years old I can still use pieces of make up to funky vamp my look up from time to time as I'm not dead yet lol
I do think that when we hit our mid 20's though we do have to start watching what gunk we put on our faces. I personally don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb or like I've just fallen
off a Christmas tree. I did all that in my youth! I refuse to use cheap branded rubbish nowadays and I try to keep my make up tame and elegant and use one piece of blinging/modern make up on my face at a time to do it up a bit when I'm going out. This is where these eye gels came in.
Urban decay is not and could never by a sane rational person be called cheap and/or nasty make up. Although funky and trendy in it's approach the stuff costs enough, usually lives up to it's promises and is of fabulous quality. I really trust the brand and till these I bought their cosmetics with confidence and pride. Though as I said earlier you pay for these products and at £11.50 per tube of eye gel well you would expect it to be great quality and amazing really wouldn't you? I bought three tubes on a whim. The whim being that T.J Hughes had three different colours in stock at £2.00 a tube. Undecided because it meant spending a further £6.00 on stuff I didn't actually need and having just twenty minutes previously been in Superdrug and bought two huge 'Sleek' sets of eye-shadows which gave me a total of 24 new eye-shadows of metallic colours I ran to Boots to A) check the colours were up to date and modern and B) to check the actual prices to really make sure I was about to get a true bargain. So yes I knew I was making one hell of a saving and ran back to T.J Hughes before the store closed on me and I bought them all boxed and I checked them all to make sure they were new and fresh etc (you do have to watch for this. Experience has shown me that!). It just shows you how much cosmetic companies make out of us lot though if T.J Hughes can sell them at this price eh and like I say these are the latest colours and there is no difference at all believe me!
The Packaging....
The tube comes in a clear plastic, recyclable box. In lilac writing on the front I'm told it's Urban Decay, Heavy Metal. On the bottom left hand side of the box I'm told It's a Glitter Eye Gel (Gel Paillette Pour Les Yeux) and the size of my product is stated (10ml). On the back of the box the ingredients are listed and I'm told Urban Decay don't believe in animal testing (who does eh so bonus!), contact details are given for Urban Decay along with the website address (www.urbandecay.com). On the lid of the box it's colour coded and the name of the colour is stated on that label and then on the base of the box I'm told a bit about the product and how to use it.
The tube is clear, recyclable with a silver screw on/off lid with the usual star shape boared into it. On the front of the tube in black writing I'm told it is Urban Decay, there is a drawing of lightening, under that I'm told it's Heavy Metal, Glitter Eye Gel once again and some stuff in tiny writing that looks foreign I can't understand. On the back of the tube there are contact details for Urban Decay and once again there is a colour coded sticker with the name of the colour written on it. Undo the lid/top and your met with a clear, thin plastic nozzle type dispenser with a small hole and you have to squeeze the tube gently and the product oozes out of it. You can see the colour of your product through your tube and you can see it's crammed with glitter so there is no mistaking what the product is.
About The Product (As Stated On The Box).....
Your own pyrotechnics in a squeezy tube, Heavy Metal Glitter Eye Gels last all night long. Use a brush or your fingertips to apply all over lids for a bit of soft rock sparkle-or reapply for full-out metal glam. (For a super-precise line of glitter, try Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner!
Using Them...
Well as I said earlier I bought three different colours and all are the same as how to apply them, quality etc. Now these are rubbish at being applied over other eye make up and are best used like for like so they blend better. I don't mean over eyeliner even liquid one's if they are very high quality and waterproof (this is ok over the top if gently applied) but you couldn't and/or shouldn't apply these over powder eyeshadow of any kind as it makes a smudgy and rotten mess. I wouldn't advise these to be used over wet/dry or moist formula's either because like with powder eye-shadows these would combine, smudge, become heavy and make a terrible mess (believe me I tried this out to be sure lol). Now why do I mention not to use them with other eye-shadows as these are gel eye colours? Well let me explain...
These gels are highly coloured in the glitter department. Lots of smooth and sparkly glitter in the colour you have chosen. However the gel colour is almost transparent and have a hint of the colour and this gel is more of a glue that sticks the glitter onto the eyelids than a colour! Hope you understand that. Basically your relying on the colour coming from the glitter.
The gel is fairly wet/moist and not very runny and squeezes out of the tube easily and slowly and is firm to the touch. It's firmness is created by the glitter as it's crammed full of that stuff and that glitter is shiny and blingy like mini diamonds. It sticks to your finger (which is the only way I could see you applying this to your eyes and then you get to work applying it where you want to. Me I can't use a brush I get it everywhere! This isn't as tricky as it sounds though to apply. The gel has a slight amount of grease in it which makes the spreading of it easy and it isn't rought, it's smooth. Most of the glitter goes with the gel off your finger but you are left with a small amount glued to your fingertips which you do have to remove with something damp when you've finished with the application. Again this is simple and not rocket science!
The results are sort of mixed so we'll start with the positives. It's easy to apply and it goes on very easily indeed. I've never made a mistake using this and I think this gel is pretty much fool proof as long as you don't go trying to splodge it on. Once on although it's a gel it kind of drys a bit but still stays on like its gently hydrating on the eyelids though it doesn't smudge, smear or crack and the glitter as time goes on doesn't flake anywhere it shouldn't so wearable it is. It's steadfast and comfortable to wear for as long as you want/need to wear it. Though you don't want to deliberetly rub your eyes to check it, this doesn't budge and isn't so gentle that it wears off over time or anything else. It removes when you tell it to with your usual make up removing routine just don't scrub it and forget it's there when you've had a drink although there isn't much product to remove no matter how much you apply...
There are negatives with this for me though and it's a real gripe. I can't get enough colour going on my eyelids and even the glitter doesn't cover my eyelids thickly enough to be as high impact as I desire it to be for a heavy night out on the town.
Although its entirely comfortable and none irritating on my eyes to wear it's all a little bit on the subtle side for me and I feel naked but for a few dabs of glitter on my eyes. I wanted high impact colour and there is my big moan.... I don't get it or any where near it. It is so subtle I'd wear it for daytime!
The concept is great and if you want a subtle wash of colour with some speckles of glitter then this is great and very wearable. If your looking for big, glam, wild party eyes then this for me is a no and big thumbs down. It tries to deliver but well.. it just doesn't and it's a real shame and far too expensive for what it is. Being called heavy metal I thought I was going to get heavy coloured metallic eyes and you don't get that no matter how hard you work this gel! I can use it for a bit of highlighting and that's it really as there just isn't enough colour on my eyelids and I feel like I've actually forgotten to add any when I look in a mirror.
Total waste of money and it's really made me think now about purchasing stuff from Urban Decay in the future for full price cos it could be a rubbish move! I would say test this first before you buy!
P.S Remember this isn't the same product as Heavy Metal Eye Liner which is meant to be fabulous!
Mainly stocked in Boots but keep your eyes peeled! Even cheap like I got this it isn't recommended from me I'm afraid!
Summary: Wish I'd never bought them!
