Urban Decay Liquid Eye Liner
Advantages: Long-lasting, easy to apply, several shades, looks good
Disadvantages: None for me
Up until a couple of years ago, I had never used liquid eyeliner. I was a little scared of it, as I'm a clumsy sort of person, and thought I would likely make a mess of it! I limited myself to using pencil eyeliner underneath my eyes, but then I decided I should just go for it and give liquid eyeliner a try.
I had been impressed by Urban Decay make up in the past, so I decided to purchase an eyeliner from this brand. I chose the Liquid Liner in the black shade, Perversion (I love the names Urban Decay give to their colours!). The bottle for this eyeliner is an attractive curved shape, like something out of the Arabian Nights. The thin silver lid unscrews to reveal a very thin brush that is used to apply the eyeliner.
My friend taught me the best way to apply liquid eyeliner to your eyelid. You should pull the skin slightly so it is taut and in more of a straight line, then gently sweep the brush along the top of the lashes. This method creates a smooth a line as possible. It's possible to sweep the brush up slightly at the end for a 'cat eye' effect, though I'm not sure I've quite mastered this yet!
I find this eyeliner easy to apply. It is thin in texture, so it goes onto the eyelid easily, but it doesn't drip. The brush keeps the line straight and thin and the bristles have remained firm yet gentle. Luckily the bristles don't fall out. The eyeliner dries very quickly - I have glitter eyeliner which dries quite slowly, so when I blink I often end up with bits of glitter on my eyelid. This doesn't happen with this eyeliner - it dries so quickly that it doesn't smudge at all.
The eyeliner doesn't come off, run or smudge while I'm wearing it. It only comes off when I choose to remove it with eye makeup remover. I often wear it in bars which tend to get a bit hot, so this is quite impressive.
I've been really impressed with this eyeliner and would definitely buy it again, both in black and in a different shade (I might go for purple next!). I can't find it on the Debenhams website, and I suspect it has been replaced by the 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner which has the same considerable range of shades and comes in a long thin tube. If I was to replace my eyeliner, I would go for this one. It's possible to find this product in various shades on different Internet sites, but I can't vouch for their reliability. The eyeliner costs about £14, which is pricey but worth it in my opinion. The base of my bottle states the product is good for 6 months after opening but I've had mine for around two years and it's still as good as new and is showing no signs of drying out. I don't use it all that often as it's definitely a going-out product rather than an everyday one, so this is good to know.
In the UK, the current Urban Decay range is sold only at Debenhams (though it's possible to obtain discontinued items via various online retailers). Debenhams often offer 10% off their beauty ranges and they also have a Beauty Card which allows you to collect and spend points when purchasing makeup items including UD products. Urban Decay do not test on animals so you can buy these products in the knowledge that they are cruelty free.
