“ Brand: Urban Decay / What it does: Nourishes „
I own the Chicago version of this lip balm. I believe I bought this product in The Factory Shop at a very discounted price. RRP is about £5 if I remember correctly. They come in 8.2g tubes.
The colour of the actual balm is purple, but once on it has very little colour, just shininess. There's a very slight hint of glitter in certain lights, but mostly there's just a sheer pearlescent shine.
The smell is similar to carmex lip balms, but I find carmex stings my nostrils a bit and this doesn'tl; the product description states that it is infused with vanilla and mint which are both very noticeable in the fragrance of the balm.
Once applied, it has a very slight tingly sensation, but it's not like some other lip balms that make you feel as if you have full on pins and needles in your lips. It's more of a cool tingle and reminds me of the feeling you get inside your mouth after using mouthwash - I guess this is because of the mint flavours in the balm. This is a soothing lip balm that provides real protection from the elements while still providing beauty on top of functionality. I use it in winter and it protects me against nasty dry lips for hours on end. My friend uses carmex and seems to have to reapply it every half an hour to stop her lips drying out. Although it's not UV protected I take it on holiday to stop my lips drying out in the heat or from the harsh chemicals in swimming pools. Once applied, the balm has pretty good staying power - I can eat and drink without worrying about it coming off.
I haven't tried the other flavours (which are all named after US cities - Miami, L.A, New York) because the colours are too vivid. Chicago is my favourite because it's subtle and creates a nice sheer coating and protection.
Currently I am finding this very hard to buy. The urban decay counters in places like Boots don't have it and so far I haven't found any official online retailers; the urban decay online shop does not stock it. However, ebay hasn't failed me yet and there always seems to be at least one new boxed balm for about £5 including postage. I would be gutted if I couldn't find this anymore because it is one of my favourite balms. Well recommended.
~~~~~~~~ Urban Decay Lube In A Tube ~~~~~~~~
I have a weak spot the size of China when it comes to lip balms. I just love them, the packaging, the colours and scents. Everything about it! When I spotted these Urban Decay balms in my local Ethel Austin (since closed) for just £1 each I simply couldn't resist and I left with 3 of them, a happy girly.
~~~~~~~~ Packaging etc ~~~~~~~~
These lubes in tubes are 8.2g each, which I think is pretty decent, and they come in a transparent plastic packet which simply 'pops' open by way of a small tab at the top. I think the outer packaging of these is great, with purple accents on the clear bits and the eye catching tubes themselves clearly visible. Each colour is named after an American hotspot and has a corresponding cartoony picture of a city girl on the tubes. Rather than just say what this product aims to do, I would like to reproduce the blurb as displayed on the back of the packet as I like the style of it!
"Designed to weather any urban storm, Lube In A Tube soothing lip balm feels rich and creamy and leaves a sheer hint of colour that looks like it radiates from within. Infused with vanilla and mint for aromatherapeutic benefits, Lube In A Tube contains mango and shea butter to give lips a super-moisturising, soothing - and sexy - barrier. This is no basic balm - it's treatment disguised as a beauty tool"
This has a huge list of ingredients, among which are carnuaba wax, beeswax, sunflower seed oil, mango butter, shea butter, safflower oil, aloe vera extract and vitamin E.
~~~~~~~~ Application & results ~~~~~~~~
The applicator area is tapered, like a lipstick, with a very small dispensing hole which makes applying them evenly and neatly really easy - just squeeze the tube gently and smooth the balm over your lips. The balm is very thick and slightly pearlescent - you can see it shining in the light. I think it looks very appealing.When applied, I get a refreshing cooling sensation followed by a very pleasant tingling. Much the way you do with Carmex balm. It doesn't have much smell other than a vaniilla-ish 'generic lip balm' scent. It does indeed feel extremely soothing and my lips instantly feel moisturised too. What I like best about these balms though is that they last a while. Once it has absorbed into my lips, I never feel the need to reapply this within a short time and my lips feel very soft and freshly moisturised to the touch for ages after. It's not greasy either and as much as I like Vaseline this feels much better on my lips. The colour is too subtle to last well really, but it's not an issue for me, as it's easy to reapply if I want to keep the shine and colour going strong. I don't even need a mirror thanks to the easy applicator!
I have seen these lip balms called lip balm glosses, as they do give your lips a noticeable sheen of colour but they are totally unlike any lip gloss I have ever tried. They do come in more than the 3 colours I purchased, which are Miami, Chicago and L.A.. I am not a huge fan of strong colours on my lips, and these are all very 'barely there'. The colours in the tubes are quite bright but when I apply and let it mingle with the natural colour of my lips, the effect is as I hoped, a very sheer hint of colour. You can get a more striking colour by simply applying a thicker layer. This doesn't feel uncomfortable or sticky when I do it.
Miami is a pinky, berry red colour in the tube, but when applied it actually looks like a dusky pink, and doesn't seem to have much berry tones in it all.
Chicago is a medium purple in the tube, which I was a little worried about to be honest! But luckily, when applied it just gives the merest hint of pale frosted lilac. This one I feel is the least noticeable of my 3 but probably my favourite.
L.A. is a rich, dark orangey-reddy bronze colour. This is the most noticeable of the 3, and goes on the lips pretty true to what the tube shows, just far less intense.
~~~~~~~~ Recommend? ~~~~~~~~
I would definitely recommend these. They are lovely balms and they really do wonders for my lips. Even when the weather has been harsh I have found them just as effective and the tingly coolness they give me is very soothing- it really feels like it's doing something and I love it when a product feels like it's doing something! The one thing I would say though, is don't buy them for the colour or I reckon you'd be disappointed. The colour is extremely subtle and doesn't really stick around that long. I won't knock stars off for that though as I wanted them to be exactly as I find them.At £1 each I think I got a fab bargain. A quick Google at shopping results only gave me 3 (2 Chicago at £1.99 and 1 NYC at £4.49) and apparently the RRP is £8?! Anyway, for £1 each - superb value! And I still have most of each tube left so I'm still a happy girly! Unfortunately, I can't find this on the Urban Decay website so can only assume it's been discontinued; Ethel Austin was the sort of shop that got joblots' of random cosmetics so this would make sense.
It's always the best things that disappear, isn't it?
After hearing loads and reading loads of great reviews on Urban Decay, I was desperate to try one of their products but after seeing their price tags in Boots, I was a bit put out in case I didn't like them or they didn't live up to their claims.
When I spotted the New York City Lube In A Tube lip balms in T.J Hughes, I was definitely going to buy some. They had been reduced from £2 to £1.50 and I definitely don't regret buying 2, after searching for other colours, I bought them and decided to try them straight away.
I usually write quite a few reviews on cosmetics and beauty products, but I know what I like and I don't like. I hate glosses or balms that are too sticky, so my hair gets stuck to my lips, or too gooey, so I look like I have an oil slick all over my lips. I like my lips to look natural and healthy, after suffering chapped lips throughout the winter, I dug out my balm and got started on it.
Well , it comes in a 2.8 gram tube, it sounds small but lasts for literally ever and it comes in a tube. The tube is transparent, so you can see the colour and the amount you have left to use. On the front, there is a cartoon of a woman applying the lip balm but it is quite sophisticated. In silver writing (which really complements the purple lip balm), it tells you what it is and how soothing and subtle it is. On the back, it includes the ingredients and contact details for Urban Decay.
It is really easy to use. You just undo the black screw cap and there is a small plastic slant with a hole in the middle, you just gently squeeze the tube and glide it across your lips. It isn't sticky and it doesn't go everywhere, only where you apply it too.
I have to say the smell is divine, it smells of mint and vanilla but contains shea butter as well, to give you soft lips. I can't really describe the taste as all the flavours merge together but it is good enough to eat! I find my lips tingle when I apply it but in a good fresh way
All the lubes contain some colour but I find they are really subtle and sheer. New York City is a purply berry colour but it is quite deep and shimmery, it doesn't make your lips look purple. They are slightly glossy but really subtle and brings out my natural lip colour. It looks sticky on application but it soon just provides a slight sheen. To keep your lips looking healthy and glowing, I have to say the colour lasts for about 2 hours and then you have to reapply it. As this isn't a lip gloss but a balm, I think most balms last less time than that, so I am very impressed.
I really like this product and always stick a tube in my pocket when going out, as it is small and convenient to use, it soothes but gives your lips a lovely glow of colour. I don't think I would pay £8.50 as I think it is extortion to pay that much for a balm but I will be getting another with my boots points!
Urban decay is pretty much a failsafe buy for any beauty lover.
Created in stylish packaging and the price tag that suggests they like to reward their designers and marketing team with plenty of meals out in NoBu, I love the looks and i fall for their products every time.
Designed to be slick and soft, this lipgloss doesn't disappoint. With a heady and almost minty scent these taste as good as all Urban Decay products seem to taste.
Pretty scrummy, these are pretty much all about the looks.
designed to capture a market that have outgrown barry M, are too grown up for all that jazz, but unable to fork out for Lancome, this covers, and probably covets a large part of Benefit's target audience.
Anyway, the lipgloss. Lasts a lifetime, and or some reason, stays leake free. Took it out in a clutch used it drunkenly and still had no spillages. This is just the right side of shiny, and although your hair will stick to it- still looks fab. Great for day wear, and a great change from your usual brand, snap this up if your feeling flash.
Ever since buying the Urban Decay Deluxe palette, I've been a big fan of Urban Decay. The only downside being, the items are usually out of my price range as a student. However, I saw multiple Urban Decay items in Ethel Austin, for very cheap prices.
One item that caught my way was this product, for £1. The name was slightly offputting because i was expecting it to be slimey and not very pleasant. I did actually purchase this thinking it was a lipgloss, I purely bought it because it was Urban Decay and cheap.
When I got home, I thought I'd try it out. The packaging is pretty standard, and a little boring for a UD product. It's in a standard lipgloss tube, with a little hole allowing a little lip balm to be dispensed at one time.
The consistancy is different to how I was expecting. It's quite a thick paste. I bought this in Miami, which is a dark reddish pink colour. I applied a small amount, as I don't like too much lip product on my lips, I'm more likely to wipe it off. Immediately after applying it, I felt a slight tingle on my lips which I wasn't expecting. It smells minty also.
Now the purpose of this, I beleive, is to be a lip treatment. It's supposed to sooth dry/sore lips and help heal them. I've tried using this when I've had dry lips, it does work at first. My lips felt better quite quickly, but when the product has been absorbed or wiped off, the dryness returned pretty quickly.
The colour payoff is quite sheer, but pretty. When I wear this, it is just for the subtle wash of colour on my lips, rather than using it for a lip treatment. I can't speak for the other colours, as I've only used the one.
I'd definitely recommend this, as an alternative to lipstick or lipgloss. Don't purchase this thinking it will be the answer to your chapped lips, because you will be disappointed. If you want a little colour on your lips, without the heaviness and texture of lipgloss/lipstick, then you should definitely buy this!
After purchasing a load of Urban Decay Lip Gunks and being so impressed with them, when I saw this Lube In A Tube (N.Y.C) in T.J Hughes for £2.00 each (currently available in Boot's for £8.50 each) I snapped it up before hunting for other colours and was gutted to see there were no more colours!
To just bring you up to date with me I'm mad on Urban Decay products and at the moment they are my preferred brand of cosmetics without a doubt! I just love the products cos they do as they promise each and every time!
I have written a few reviews on here about cosmetics and I don't do many in comparison to everything else on lipsticks, glosses and balms. I own loads and I do try but I can't get on with them at all. I don't like greasy, gooey lips at all so if I'm using anything it tends to be Max factor Lipfinity as it's more of a lip ink. However it's summer people! I want to lighten up a bit and look summery and youthful and more natural and for everything lipfinity is...it isn't natural looking lol
So I want a lip gloss look that isn't heavy or sticky and if it's 'super-moisturizing, soothing and sexy' (as Urban Decay reckon all the better!).
Well it's lube in a tube! It's a tube! It's 2.8g in size partially clear so you can see your colour and on the front is a little drawing of a woman applying the lip gloss in cartoon character styly! In silver writing I'm told it is Urban Decay and then under the picture in red writing I'm told it's N.Y.C, Lube in tube, soothing lip balm. On the back the size is stated and contact details for Urban Decay are listed.
Well it's simple. When you undo the little back cap you are met by a small plastic slant in which to use you simply gently squeeze the tube and a small amount of gooey liquid comes out and sits on said slant. It doesn't drip or go anywhere and all you do is use the slant as you would the slant of a lipstick all over the lips.
What is very apparent even before opening the tube is the smell. It smells of vanilla and mint and apparently contains mango and shea butter though I can't smell this because of the stuff I can smell. I can very much taste the mint and it's like chewing gum. Not at all unpleasant and does freshen breath as well as give them colour! It does give a tingly fresh feeling to the lips and it goes on like a dream.
All of these lubes in a tubes contain some colour and are all very sheer. Mine (N.Y.C) is a berry colour which is just a really nice deep pink colour which is very shimmery and slightly glossy but it tends to bring out my natural colour of my lips which makes me wonder if this mint tingle is making my blood rush to my lips or something! Though I must add this isn't an uncomfortable tingle!
The colour sort of sinks into your lips making them appear moist and plump and although on application the gloss looks slightly sticky as it melts into your lips that goes very quickly. Yes it does have a slight sticky feeling but nothing major, after-all this is more a treatment than a gloss in it's purpose but does give a nice thin gloss to the lips. As for durability, well this gives a glossy finish for about an hour and then when that's gone the colour stays on the lips for say another hour but to keep colour on the lips you do need to top it up regularly but it isn't a problem to do this cos it's so nice to use!
This is a really simple lip balm/colour/gloss to use. Looks very natural and really does soften lips so much so that when removed lips do feel moisturised for ages afterwards. It's meant to be a gloss and a treatment in one and it really is perfect in both of them ways and so great just to carry around and apply if and when needed and looks really modern on.
I would definitely buy this for full price because I do get chapped and sore lips and this stuff not only soothes and moisturises it give a lovely colour over the dry bits of skin without highlighting them or clumping up and treats them all at the same time and if I do bite bits of hanging skin off and make my lips sore I can apply this over the top and it doesn't irritate.
I think this is just amazing and my lips now are oh so kissable now! Another fabulous product from Urban Decay, did a woman invent this range me wonders? lol
4 colours available....
N.Y.C is the one I bought and a berry colour, Chicago is a lilac colour, L.A is a sparkly red, and Miami is a very shimmery light pink.
To be found in Boot's!

No, not THOSE lips. Get your minds out of the gutter!
Urban Decay Lube in a Tube is a tinted lip treatment product that I invested in during the summer when I often had rather dry chapped lips. What initially attracted me was the funky packaging and the fact that I love Urban Decay's Lip Gunk and eyeshadows.
Urban Decay is a relatively new brand in the world of cosmetics. It was launched back in 1996 and is a funky fashionable brand with huge sex appeal. From the appearance of the containers and range of colours I would say it is primarily aimed at outgoing young ladies with a reasonable amount of money looking to stand out from a crowd rather than blending in. Their unique range of colours is unmistakably feminine, but edgy and most of all, fun to use!
Lube in a Tube is packaged in a squeezy tube (very similar to Lancomes Juicy Tubes) containing 8.2g of lip treatment. It has a small slanted applicator with which you can either apply the product directly or use your finger to get some to then put on to your lips. There are four different shades, all with different names of cities in the US (being an American brand). Sadly, the batch that I bought my tube from had a printing error on the tube which states it is a Soothing Lip Blam okkkkkay.
L.A. is a sheer red colour, probably best suited to people who like a bit of colour to their lips or naturally have bright lips and would like some lip treatment in a matching colour.
MIAMI looks like a bright pink shade but its really just a sheer girly pink.
CHICAGO is a cute pale purple which slightly alters the colour of your lips but in no way appears purple!
NYC is the shade that I chose because I thought it was slightly different. When applied it is like a sheer pale berry shade which looks great with no makeup, pale eyes OR dark eyes.
Couldnt be easier! I much prefer squeezy tubes to pots when it comes to lip treatment because I have long nails and pots always make me waste loads of product underneath my nails. More often than not Ill apply this at home so I just wash my hands and apply it with my fingers. Being very thick in consistency it comes out nice and slowly so you never waste any.
Slick it on your lips and youre ready to go! It looks great even without makeup because its not like gloss, its just a light sheer sheen.
THE GOOD NEWS
It feels lovely if you apply it when your lips are sore/dry/chapped like how your throat feels when youve finally gulped down a drink on a hot summers day. It gives you an instant lift and you think that youve finally found the solution to your sore lips. It is not an overpowering kind of cooling sensation, just a pleasantly mild minty tingle.
Girls, no doubt if youre a lip gloss fiend youll know how annoying it is when your nice long hair gets glued to your face? It doesnt really happen with this. It is non sticky and doesnt feel gloopy when you put your lips together.
It lasts a relatively long time (couple of hours) and you wont really notice it fading because its so sheer.
A little goes a LONG way and so although the tube is small, it should last a fair while.
THE BAD NEWS
It tastes a little bit odd if you happen to get any in your mouth. Its not grim but its not on the Juicy Tube side of things as taste goes.
After the initial hit of coolness it really doesnt appear to do that much. In fact I would go so far as to say it sometimes makes my lips feel a little bit worse than before I applied it! It would probably work ok if I applied it all day long when it wore off, but thats just not me!
Normal Urban Decay price for this product is £8.50!!! Oh dear, oh dear.
Fortunately I pounced on an offer when they had buy two get one free on Urban Decay on a Boots triple Advantage Card points day when they were also handing out £5 Ruby and Millie vouchers.
After selling the other two products and discounting the £5 I actually ended up paying 30p!
I cant complain at obtaining such a cool product for that price, but if you bought it for full price at £8.50 and expected it to do what it says trust me; it doesnt. Its a nice little product youd love to carry in your handbag and a cute natural looking makeup accessory: lip treatment it is not.
It is hard for me to rate this because I got it at such a bargain price that I find it hard to criticise. I would recommend that you give it a go if you get a chance to buy it very cheap, but at £8.50 give it a wide berth!
Despite this, I certainly wont be put off their lip gunks and eyeshadows long may they dominate my makeup bag!
