A superb product let down by dreadful packaging

I really like the brand Urban Decay and like to try a lot of their makeup items. I got a small pot of this powder in a gift set.

When I got this I was intrigued because I’d never tried any of Urban Decay’s face makeup before. I love their eyeshadows but that was the extent of my experience with the brand. However, I do have slightly oily combination skin, so some sort of face powder is pretty much essential for me – I hoped that this would live up to expectations.

      *About the Product*
The full name of the product is Razor Sharp Ultra-Definition Finishing Powder. It fits in with the recent popularity of ‘high-definition’ or ‘photo-ready’ face products. UD suggest that the product will help you achieve a flawless complexion, creating a soft-focus effect. The powder apparently contains tiny water particles which burst on application, helping to moisturise and refresh the skin, which sounds bizarre to me!

My 3.75g sample pot (it doesn’t sound much but the powder is very light, and as it’s so fine I found it lasted ages) was a cylindrical tube with a clear base, handy for allowing you to see how much powder there was left. A razor pattern covered the clear part of the pot, while the lid was matte silver. The full-size pot has an iridescent Urban Decay logo on top, but my smaller size had a little mirror – this was a bit small to be used when applying a full face, but it came in handy when applying lipstick out and about.

The packaging has a twist mechanism to close and open the pot, and a sponge applicator attached to the top. I absolutely hated this as I had to shake the pot loads and practically hit my face with the powder sponge to get any product out. Also, the sponge was really hard so I hated using it to apply the product. In the end, I started removing the lid altogether and using a separate brush to apply the powder. This worked much better in terms of application, but also meant that the powder was not portable.

The actual quality of the powder is very good. It is finely milled and applies without caking; it blends in perfectly, provides a great base for makeup, and makes skin look smooth and almost blemish-free. On bad skin days I had to apply foundation underneath, but on good days I could get away with just the powder. It was ideal to wear on hot days as it didn’t cake, unlike heavier powders.

The full-size powder costs GBP21, which is pricey, but the powder is good quality. It’s a shame the packaging is so rubbish, as I definitely wouldn’t buy it as it is. If the packaging changed, I would certainly consider it.

        Great Great Great

I was in Boots browsing the range of Urban Decay products which were on offer 3 for 2. This is a great way to get a high quality product for less from company that doesn't test on animals and have vegan products in the range.

I use the mineral foundation and really like it but then this product caught my eye. It is described as offering a finish that would be flawless in a photo shoot, indeed many celebrities use it. So I was tempted by that claim and then when I checked to see if it had the 'Marley Paw' (a purple paw print called Marley's paw indicates that a product is suitable for vegans, not on packaging but in the in store products book that the representative has access to in a drawer on the display stand or they can access info via telephone to find out for you and of course you can see the info on the website at www.urbandecay.com). The Marley Paw stamp is on this product so that was the green light for me and I promptly purchased one.

It was back in 1996 that Sandy Lerner launched this Company and initially selling 10 shades of lipstick and 12 shades of nail enamel which she was inspired to develop because of the lack of more dynamic and interesting shades in the beauty industry at that time. She teamed up with Wende Zomnir and David Soward for their creative and business input.

Make up for skin, eyes, lips and nails that is pretty in a bold and dazzling way. Aimed at those who like to look individual and don't want to blend in. Experiment with the glitter, sparkle and sheen. Have fun with this make up which offers options of looks from pixie to vixen or rock star to starlet.....dare to express your individualism.

Urban Decay are dedicated to be ever striving in producing high quality products for their customers. There is a large fan base for this company but are people aware that the reason the eyeshadow remains intact and crease free all day long is because it is full of pure pigments instead of being packed full of binders. The 'Good karma' application brushes that make applying these eyes hadows so effortless are made from the highest standard synthetic fibres which the team searched for everywhere and because of this no animals are harmed.

The company does not test on animals and offers a good range of products that are suitable for vegan individuals. All ingredients are listed on the website for those who are vegan, have sensitive skin or are just curious.

        So to the product packaging

Presented in the trademark light purple box which is pleasing to the eye and indicates the quality of the product. Inside the box is a glass pot with a black lid that is high quality and user friendly. The product description and brand name are in attractive font and there is an embossed Urban Decay pattern on the lid...a nice finishing touch.

The lid is easy to unscrew an beneath you have a puff cover that allows you to apply the product straight away. Alternatively you can easily unscrew the puff and that will enable you to use the power with a powder brush if you prefer to apply with a brush.

        About Razor Sharp!

The claim of this product is to be 'facebook' ready and indeed 'camera' ready everyday. Due to the high tech finishing powder this can be a reality. Because of the silky, micro fine powder which produces an 'optical blurring' this seems to give the appearance of airbrushing and imperfections are simply hidden away. Even under the stongest lights the skin has a soft focus, smooth finish.

        Application time

Apply Razor Sharp over foundation to give the wonderful finishing touch or apply to bare skin for the perfect fresh faced look. However you apply it you will be pleased with the results and enjoy the refreshing feeling that this light powder gives to your skin. You can apply anywhere very easily because of the no spill puff attachment. This universal shade is designed to suit all skin tones and will see you from one season to the next. Simply apply in light motions with the puff or carefully un-click the puff and tap some out for use with a powder brush and you are ready to go. No need for reapplication, this lasts all day.

        My experience with Razor Sharp

        It works!

I use the Urban Decay Surreal Mineral Powder which is fabulous and gives great coverage and I am very happy with alone. When I brush some of the Razor Sharp over the top to finish - well things just get even better. It really is true what they say, even in a mirror my imperfections, eg fine lines around eyes, are simply not noticeable.

Application is simple, either use the puff or unscrew and carefully dip your brush in to get a small amount, swirl around the inside of the product lid to get onto the brush properly and then apply in strokes to the face. Quick and easy and impressive results.

I don't have to reapply during the day, this product stays put and it does feel refreshing and very light and did I already mention that it looks amazing?

        Final Word

This product does what it says, it is high quality in every way, it is more on the expensive side but you get what you pay for and it lasts - look out for 3 for 2 offers at boots and get advantage card points. This pot lasts and lasts as you only need a small amount over foundation. Vegan friendly and not tested on animals.

Well if you fancy it give it a whirl.

        Thanks for reading.
