“ Brand: Urban Decay / Type: Eyeshadow „
This Urban Decay eyeshadow palette was another Christmas gift I received last year. The set is a little bit different to the other Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes in that it is eco-friendly. The box is made from recyclable materials and the eyeshadow brush is cruelty-free.
This set includes 10 eyeshadows, a mini bottle of the Urban Decay primer and an eyeshadow brush. The box itself is gorgeous - it is made from bamboo and the wood has black patterns and the words Urban Decay on the front. The patterns are hard to describe - it includes little hearts, butterflies, flowers and lots of wiggly lines. In the top right corner there is a little metal screw-like thing which holds the box together. The lid swivels round to open. The little screw thing has fallen out of my box meaning the lid isn't properly attached, however it is also magnetised so stays closed fairly well, although I wouldn't trust it in my make up bag.
Inside the box there are the 10 eyeshadows laid out in two rows of 5. In between the two rows is a space where the brush sits and to the left of the shadows is a small rectangular mirror which is useful for applying eyeshadow on the go. The colours are as follows:
YDK - a shimmery brown
Midnight cowboy rides again - a glittery gold
Flipside - a shimmery green
Flash - a glittery dark purple
Grifter - a paler shimmery purple
Oil slick - black
Uzi - a shimmery silver
Kiddie pool - a shimmery turquoise
Twice baked - a dark glittery brown
Half baked - a shimmery bronze
As with most eyeshadow sets, there are colours I use and colours I don't. I prefer the browny/gold colours and have used nearly all of the 'half baked' and the 'midnight cowboy rides again'. I haven't touched 'oil slick' or 'flipside'.
As with all Urban Decay eyeshadows, the quality of these shadows is excellent. They are easy to apply and blend and are long-wearing. I like this set because the brush is a proper brush with bristles as opposed to just a sponge tip applicator, so I know I will continue to use this brush even when I am finished with the shadows in the palette. I have to admit I have not yet tried the primer potion - however I have heard wonderful things about it so must give it a go!
This set costs £25.00 and contains 10 x 0.56g of eyeshadow, which I suppose is a small amount compared to the full size Urban Decay eyeshadows which contain 10g of product and cost £14.00 each. I do think the palettes are a good way to try new shades and experiment with colours you wouldn't necessarily want to buy a full size pot of.
Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review useful.
I bought this palette a little while ago as I had another and was so impressed with the colours, I thought I'd go for another so I could try a range of colours, rather than buying individual eyeshadows.
The colours are vibrant and hard wearing. They go on smoothly, including the glitter shades, with little fall out. The colours are super pigmented and so a little goes a long way. I use them in conjunction with the Urban Decay Primer Potion and it works a treat - brilliant staying power!
The colours are all quite different, yet compliment each other also. I like to use Oil Slick (a black glitter shade) wet as a liner along my lower lashes. I love YDK, Twice Baked and Half Baked together to create a bronzey smokey eye. Flash (a bright purple) and Flipside (a rich green) are fab and bright - I like to use them as a liner. Uzi (a white/silver glitter shade) is probably my least favourite, only as I find the glitter particles slightly gritty.
I prefer the non glitter shadows, just out of personal preference but they are all as equally nice as each other.
What I love most about this palette is that there is a real range of colours to choose from and not just one shade or finish.
The palette is fairly pricey, but for 10 eyeshadows it is actually very good value (than if you were buying them individually!)
I love the design of the packaging as it is unusual and I haven't seen anything similar but the packaging also has it flaws as it isn't great for on the go!
I got this Urban Decay Eye shadow Palette for Christmas and I don't know why it has taken me so long to review this item. This my second Urban Decay product I have, the other being the NYC eye shadow palette, which I also love! I really like Urban decay products, because firstly I love the fact that they don't test on animals, also because the quality of the products.
I find that with the use of the Urban Decay primer, these eye shadows do really last for ages. This is because of the quality of the eye shadows and I have found that with these eye shadows, they are very durable and they do not wear off easily.
Like all Urban Decay Eye shadows, the product themselves are easy to apply to the eye-lid. The products is easy to blend into the eye-lid and the eye-shadow is of good quality, so that you don't need a lot of the product for good coverage.
"Gorgeous AND eco-friendly! Ten dynamic Eyeshadows, a cruelty-free Eyeshadow brush, AND a travel size bottle of Eyeshadow Primer Potion."
The outside of this palette has a wooden lid which, it states on the back, is made from Bamboo. The lib has a lovely design on it which has swirls, butterflies and also in black writing it says Urban Decay under the design.
The lid then swivels around to open up the palette to reveal the eye shadows. Inside the palette there is a small rectangular mirror, which is very handy if you are taking this palette travelling! The is also a small eye shadow brush, which I fins great for precision application of the eye shadows.
Midnight Cowboy Rides Again
I really liked all of the colours, but there are a few that are may 'be a little different, so I wouldn't particularly use them quite that often. Flipside is a green colour and although it is a lovely vibrant colour, I personally wouldn't use this colour on my eyes.
The other colours in the palette I have used and some are very much worn down because of using them frequently. My favourites in this palette are 'Midnight Cowboy Rides Again' and 'Twice Baked'. They are both colours that I wear together and are the types of shades that I would often wear.
Each of these shades have a glittery tint in them. I really like this fact and the glittery tint makes the shades lovely and pretty when you apply then to you eye-lid. You can see the glitter much more in some of the shades than others, such a UZI (white) and Oil Slick (black). The glittery can at times be a little messy, but if used carefully, this is not a big problem! I really love have a sparkly glittery shade on my eyes, and with this product it is like wearing fairy dust!!
Along with the eye shadow palette you also get a small, travel size tube of eye primer. I love this eye primer and swear by it! I use this eye primer everyday and I also have a bigger size tube of this product. I find that my eye shadow stays on 10 times longer when I use this eye primer.
I know that Urban Decay products can be on the expensive side, but I really do believe that they are worth spending the money on. When buying any Urban Decay product, you are really buying quality that it hard to fault. I usually receive Urban Decays products at Christmas, for the simple fact that they are a little expensive for me to buy myself, so my friends and family just buy me them instead.
I would definitely recommend this product looking for a great quality, long lasting eye shadow palette. And there are plenty of different shades with this product so there is something to suit everyone!
You can purchase this palette from Debenhams for £22.50 which is actually in Sale right now, down from £27.00. Here is the link, so you can have a look for yourself....
Thanks for reading!
This urban decay palette slides open to reveal ten beautiful eye shadow shades, a eyeshadow brush and a small mirror.
The colours are as follows;
YDK - a metallic bronze. Flipside - a turquoise shade. Feiffer - a light glittery shade of pink. Uzi - a glittery white shade. Twice baked - a chocolate colour with light brown glitter. Midnight cowboy rides again - similar to the YDK shade however it has a lot more glitter in it and is a lighter shade. Flash - deep purple. Oil slick - dark black with small bits of white glitter. Kiddie pool - a baby blue, also glittery. Half baked - a golden shade.
These colours are highly pigmented so you get plenty of use out of them and when applying them you're able to get a good coverage without having to layer it on your eyes. Some of the colours are quite bright and glittery and so these colours may be more suitable for a night out. However, these colours are gorgeous and the variety of shades are a nice addition. After applying the urban decay eye shadow primer which is included I've found that they stay on very well and dont fade or drop onto your face. The outside packaging of the palette is different with a graffiti look to it. I love the design of the packaging! The brush is handy but I'd recommend using other brushes when applying the eyeshadows as the brush given is quite small.
Overall, not only are the colours gorgeous they do stay on really well and are highly pigmented. The price may put some people off but you're getting ten different eye shadow shades and a brush in this palette it's definately worth the money!
I love bright vibrant colours and unusual styles so when I spotted this palette in my local Boots I initially thought it was a bit expensive at £25.00 for a 10 small squares of eye shadow, 1 brush, a small tube of primer and a tiny mirror, but I thought why not I'll go and treat myself and I was glad I did because I use this more than I use any other eye shadow.
The box itself is quite small, thin and compact so it's pretty easy to store and doesn't take up much room, perfect for your handbag. The 10 colours supplied are lovely and all have their own little name my two favourites being flipside which is a nice loud green that is almost metallic and Midnight cowboy rides again which is a light gold colour that is a little bit glittery. The front slides across so there's no danger of losing the top and it's attached so there's no danger of it snapping off either as the palette itself is of high quality, it's wooden with a black pattern on the front. The eye shadows themselves are very durable and tend to stay on once applied and also they last for ages, I've literally had mine for a couple of years and there isn't even a dent in any of them although I have to admit I have misplaced the brush. Surprisingly they are great for everyday wear as well as there are subtle colours included such as YDK which is a metallic light brown and twice baked which is a darker version. The only problem I have is the black called Oil slick which is difficult to apply as it tends to go all over the place. Overall I think I invested quite well and it seems to be the type of make up that lasts forever.
The Final Word~~~~~~
It's one of my favourites for a reason, money well spent and great for everyday use and even better for night outs as well. It's just something a bit different and I'm glad I bought it.
Urban Decay is a luxury cosmetics brand sold all across the world. The make up is always gorgeous but sometimes has an unusual twist. It's designed for individuals who want to stand out, express themselves and not blend in with the crowd. It is feminine, dangerous, fun and includes styles and colours that other brands may shy away from.
The Sustainable Shadow Box is available from large department stores and online at sites such as Urban Decay, ASOS and ebay. I got my palette from Boots for around £25. This seems expensive but if you consider that the full size primer is £12 and the full size shadows are around £10 each, then it's a good way to get a great variety of colours without spending a fortune. For your money you get a make up set loaded with ten dynamic best selling eye shadows by Urban Decay that will give you an intense long lasting colour without any creasing. Also included is a cruelty free eye shadow brush and a travel size bottle of eye shadow primer potion.
What makes Urban Decay's eye shadows so special is that they are packed with pure pigments instead of binders which results in maximum colour and a silky smooth texture. The shadows in this set are arranged in coordinating duos but you can stray away from this and go wild with your creations to create a whole host of looks. The colours can be used dry or if you want the colours to be even more intense, you can wet the brush first. The colours are not subtle and all come with a hint or full on blast of shimmer. The shadows included are;
YDK - Bronzed mocha with a golden glitter
Midnight Cowboy Rides Again - golden beige with bronze, gold and silver glitter
Flipside - Electric teal with a blue sheen
Flash - Bright iridescent purple
Grifter - Sheer lavender with silver glitter
Oil Slick - Black with silver glitter
Uzi - Metallic silver with iridescent sparkles
Kiddie Pool - Ocean blue with iridescent glitter
Twice Baked - Brownie brown with gold glitter
Half Baked - Subtle bronze
This product is also extremely eco friendly. So not only will you look good but you will be doing your bit for the environment making this a guilt free purchase. The eye shadows themselves sit in a textured tray made from consumer recycled cardboard and the outer casing is made from bamboo which is an abundant and sustainable material. Even the clear casing which the product arrives in is recyclable. The brush is made from super soft synthetic materials so no animals have been hurt and none of Urban Decays products are animal tested.
The packaging is eye catching, with black doodles scrawled across the bamboo lid of butterflies, rivers, trees... Well, just about anything related to nature. The lid is attached by a small screw in the top corner and to open the product, the lid swings open. It also has a small mirror in the lid. Mine broke fairly quickly and I also lost the screw. There is a faint magnetic hold to keep the lid on but I couldn't carry it around with me anymore, so in my opinion, the lid design is flawed.
All in all, the lid issue aside, this is a lovely product that would make somebody a fantastic gift or just a well deserved treat for yourself. I find it difficult to apply the shadow using a brush inside of a sponge and the brush is quite small so I use my normal shadow applicator instead. Also, if you are not a fan of glitter, you can step well away from this product. It is not for the faint hearted.
And finally, I find myself using the same old browns and golds as I did before I bought this product so the brighter colours are going unused and are kind of wasted so it may have been better for me to buy a brown and gold full sized shadow instead. But if you like experimenting with different looks and you care about the environment, then this is the shadow set for you.
I absolutely LOVE Urban Decay. Although, as a student, it's a little out of my price range, whenever I have spare money I always look at their products. I bought this in boots for around £25. I think it was a little less by a few pounds but I can't actually remember (useful, I know!). Althought it is slightly pricey it was absolutely worth the money.
The palette, in a lovely little wooden box, has 10 different shades of eyeshadow. There's a golden brown colour ("YDK"), a green ("Flipside"), lilac ("grifter"), silver ("uzi"), shimmery brown ("twice baked"), light gold ("Midnight Cowboy Rides Again"), dark purple ("Flash"), glittery black ("Oil Slick"), blue ("Kiddie Pool") and finally another golden colour ("Half Baked"). They're all absolutely gorgeous colours that I personally would have bought separately, and my rubbish description does them no justice at all.
The palette comes with a brush so you can easily apply the eyeshadow. My personal favourites are the purple, "Flash" and the green, "Flipside", as they suit my red hair and pale complexion. The black, "Oil Slick", is also great for a night out though perhaps a little dark for the day, as it is a very dark and glittery. I like to use the golds and silvers on the inside of my upper lids, to highlight and brighten my eyes. Some colours will suit some complexions, eye and hair colours better than others, but they're all absolutely lovely so even if you don't use them all, you'll find at least half of them will look gorgeous.
On top of this, the pretty packaging and gorgeous eyeshadows are all eco friendly, not tested on animals, and made from sustainable resources. This is the icing on the cake of a brilliant product.
This truly is a great little eyeshadow set. It has a great mixture of vibrant shadows like the purple and the green. There's the earthy browns and golds. And then comes the glittery ones which come in pale blue, pale pink, white, gold and black.
It's plain to see there's a great selection of colours in this little box, but that's not all you get.
It also comes with a little bottle of Primer Potion, which when used (even sparingly) on eyelids before the eyeshadow is applied, holds the eyshadow perfectly to your lids for hours upon hours.
Inside the box is an eyeshadow brush, perfectly shaped for getting right in the corners but also wide enough to do the whole eyelid with ease. Also a small mirror, useful for when you'r on the go and want to do just a quick touch up.
The eyeshadows come in a wonderful bamboo box decorated with butterflies, flowers, bamboo canes, and allsorts of swirls and patterns. It also has the Urban Decay logo painted onto the front.
On the back is a friendly warning that because it's a natural product, the bamboo may splinter.
The only downside I can think of for this prouct is that Urban Decay is usually quite a pricey brand. This particular product retailing at around £22. Worth every penny, to my mind.
All in all this is a fantastic little make-up set and even though the shadows are only quite small, they seem to last forever. I've used mine almost everyday for over a year and it hardly looks used at all.
These eyeshadows by Urban Decay are absolutely fantastic and well worth a try. Unusually for products such as this one, there are no duff colours to make up the set - quite a few of them are Urban Decay's top-selling shades, and they are paired with other vivid and sparkly colours to make a fab set. This product normally retails at £22 but it's often possible to find it cheaper or find an offer which has something else thrown in - so worth a bit of shopping around! The main positives for me are the range of colours, their durability once applied (an eyeshadow primer always helps), and how long lasting they are. I have been using one of them everyday for about six months and it is only just about to run out!
A word of caution - all of the colours are extremely sparkly, verging on glittery! So if that's not your style, this set is not for you - it is quite young and would make a good present for a teen.
The only other, slightly random negative that I have is that the box (albeit sustainable which is great) does smell a bit odd and was quite overpowering at first. After six months this has pretty much worn off but I did find it quite annoying at first.
I got this fabulous eye shadow palette for Christmas and have been wearing a different colour everyday!
"Urban Decay Sustainable Shadow Box holds ten dynamic eyeshadows, an eyeshadow brush and travel sized bottle of primer potion. The eyeshadows are arranged in co-ordinating duos and can be used to create an endless combination of looks. The eyeshadows deliver intense colours, blend easily and last. The case includes a mirror enclosed, which is useful when your on-the-go!"
The colours are so vivid and if used with the primer potion, last for ages. Examples of the colours include "Flipside" which is a fabulous striking green colour, "Kiddie Pool" which is a luscious gittery pale blue colour and "Oil Slick" which is a smoky sparkly black colour. The palette contains seven other fantastic colours that you can co-ordinate with outfits and mix them up to create fantastic new colours and looks!
These eyeshadows are great for everyday use but you can go to town if you are off on a night out and create a truly unique stunning look!
The compartment has a swing round lid which closes firmly with a magnet so you can keep it in you bag with you at all times!
Go on and try it, be a little different!
On sale at Boots for £22.00, where you can also earn advantage points! Bonus!
Having bought this on the aeroplane to my summer holiday, I was attracted by the box at first. Upon opening I was stunned by the range of colours. The picture above does not do this justice. The colours are beautiful and so long lasting. A word of warning is that if you do not like glitter then this is not for you. Quite a few of the colours have a glitter pigment running through them and although I love this and tend to use it every couple of days I have had the odd problem with it. As the glitter is present, a couple of times I have had a piece of glitter lodge itself in my eye and been very painful and resulted in me blinking furiously to get rid of it - never a good look on a night out. However, this would not stop me using it - it is convenient (ideal for travel as fits nicely in the makeup bag), would go with any outfit due to the wide array of colours and was relatively cheap. A good purchase all in all.
I first of all have to apologise because I LOVE Urban Decay in general, so I might go a bit potty on the reviews of their stuff :)
The Sustainable Shadow Box I received as a gift (priced around £20), as I've told everyone I know how much I love Urban Decay eyeshadows. They come in very vivid colours, are nice to apply, long-lasting, and well designed. This box features 10 different shadows, a built-in (tiny) mirror, an applicator and a tiny bottle of primer.
First off, the applicator... don't bother with it :) It's decent as far as these things go, but I always prefer to use my fingers for my lid, and a thinner brush to line under my eye. The colours go on nice and strong that way, and you have good control over the blending.
The primer I can see being useful, but I never bother with it myself. When I tried it out it did create a nice, wrinkle-free base, but I can't be bothered applying it and waiting for it to dry a little every morning!
The packaging of this palette is made from bamboo, so it is a 'sustainble' product. It does warn on the back that it might splinter, but mine has been well used and travelled with me and it hasn't splintered at all.
It has a nice sliding lid, which is loose, but held in place with a magnet so it doesn't slide open without effort. Inside there is a tiny mirror which is not as useful as the ones on the flip palettes, but that's not really the reason you're buying it, is it?
The design on the bamboo is pretty, it looks like doodles but really appeals to me. But now for the important bit:
The 10 eyeshadows in this box are:
- YDK - A mid brown, not bright, but with sparkles
- Flipside - A bright green which has a nice sheen to it
- Grifter - Baby pink with little sparkles
- Uzi - White with lots of sparkles
- Twice Baked - Dark brown that looks nice and dramatic on
- Midnight Cowboy Rides Again - A beige/light brown colour with sparkles
- Flash - An intense, bright purple colour that I have on right now! :)
- Oil Slick - Black, very black, with some sparkles
- Kiddie Pool - Baby blue again with quite a bit of sparkle
- Half Baked - A gold colour with a good sheen
I'd recommend oil slick if you like to line your eyes with shadow rather than kohl or liquid liner, it's very much black, not grey, but you can go for a more blended in look with it too.
I like to mix some of the browns and gold/beige colours so that I'm wearing the lighter colours nearer my nose and getting gradually darker to the outer corner of my eye. This palette works well with most of the browns blending together nicely.
Flipside and Flash really are INTENSE. They are lovely on their own, or to go from a bright blue to the Turquoisey-green of Flipside. Even bright pink to the purple of Flash works well... if you're feeling brave!
All of the colours go on really nicely, leave a nice finish, don't make your eyes feel clogged and are a joy to work with (especially when you get your fingers stuck in!)
This palette retails for around £20 and can be bought in stores like Boots, Debenhams and House of Fraser. However, I had saved up a lot of Advantage Card points in Boots so I ended up using these instead!
The palette is made of bamboo and is designed to be sustainable. The packaging gives it a very summery feel, and indeed the eyeshadow colours are very bright and summery, so I feel it is most appropriate for the warmer months! The pack includes ten eyeshadows, a brush, a small mirror built in to the packaging and a tiny bottle of eyeshadow primer potion.
The following shades are included:
Midnight Cowboy Rides Again
My favourite colours are YDK, a light brown perfect for daytime, Flash, a bright purple, and Oil Slick, a black glittery shade perfect for nights out. There is a huge variety of colours in this palette so it is really the only eyeshadow kit you need. It would be ideal for taking on holiday as it has shades suitable for every occasion.
The eyeshadow goes on well and stays on for a long time. My only gripe is that with some of the really glittery eyeshadows, the glitter gets onto my face so I have to put a tissue under my eyes while I'm applying it! However once it's on it stays on really well.
A great, funky, versatile kit.
****Urban Decay Sustainable Shadow Box****
After reading so many reviews on the urban decay book of shadows make up kit i decided to treat myself to it with some boots points i had been keeping for goodness knows how long. However when i got down to my local i discovered the kt i wanted was out of stock so i ended up getting this one instead.
Urban Decays slogan is "beauty with an edge-we don't do animal testing, how could anyone" They are an American company but i think part of the reason they are popular in the UK as well is because of this approach to animal testing. There's just something nice about knowing that products have not been tested on animals such as Fluffy the neighbours cat.(Even if you hate the cat )
The palette is made out from bamboo and there is actually a warning on the back telling you to be careful because there might be some slight natural splintering .It is covered all over in squiggles/random pictures and urban decay is written in one side of it. It is nice to look at and i think that it is quite different from normal palettes. Instead of having a clippy lid there is a screw in the corner and it sort of twists open. When you twist it open there is a mirror in the left hand corner .There is then a bit in the middle(spliting it in half vertical) for a brush and on each side is five eye shadows. The idea with this is that the eye shadow on each side of the brush goes with each other(not that you cant mix it with any they just think these go best with each other)
In this you get ten eye shadows and they are:ydk(glittery brown),flipside(green),grifter(pink),uzi, twice baked, midnight cowboy rides again, flash, oil slick(glittery black),kiddie pool (surprisingly a blue and not yellow as i first thought)and half baked.
On the whole these are very glittery colours and very bright on so i wouldn't suggest them for everyday wear. If you want to create dramatic eyes then these are great. I sometimes use these as eyeliners but to do that i would suggest getting a clear eyeliner to coat them with and perfect a dramatic eye look. The colours in this are very nice and i would say that they would suit most people. These are quite good however they aren't the most pigmented eye shadow ever-its not like one little dab and you are covered in it. The colours last the entire day especially with the primer potion which you get a free sample of with the kit.
The brush you got with the kit is also good and i am now considering buying the full size brushes.
**Price/where to get**
This costs just under £20 from boots. Urban Decay do have their own web site but it is for the usa only. If you want to purchase these in the uk you can buy from boots, debenhams or house of fraiser. So as you can see the choice is not that big.
Palette of 10 eyeshadows /
