I, along with many people, suffer from the problem of dry, flaky lips especially during the colder months. To help soothe my lips I use Vaseline Lip Therapy, a petroleum jelly product.

Vaseline Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera comes in a round tin with a green and white colour scheme, in a rather dated design that might benefit from being modernised slightly. The tin is small enough to fit in your handbag / makeup bag without taking up much space, at 4.5cm in diameter and 2cm in height. As far as I know, this is the only size that the product comes in. However, the colour of the lid and container does wear off quite quickly inside your bag leaving you with a worn looking, scratched tin. You simply lift the lid off without too much effort and it is well fitted with ridges so that it is unlikely to come off in your bag.

The price is just 99p for 20g in Boots and in most other stores I have looked in the price is the same. This is very reasonable as the tin will last you ages, I bought my tin 4 months ago and even though I use it more than once a day I still have over half left!

The tin is filled right to the top with product when first opened which is good as you get your money's worth! The application is the same as any other lip balm, you simply dab a little of the vaseline onto your lips using your fingers. You don't need much as a little goes a long way and applying too much can leave your lips a little bit greasy. The aloe vera is very soothing, but at the same time not too strong and you can't really taste it, and the smell is pleasant but only very slight. If you don't like the taste it is also available without aloe vera (comes in similar pot except blue and white instead of green and white). The mixture looks yellow and very gloopy but don't let that put you off as it feels fine when it is on! You are left with greasy fingertips afterwards, although these dry after a little while it is probably best to wash them afterwards.

The result is excellent, the Vaseline makes my lips look smooth and gorgeous again. The aloe vera meant that they felt less sore and didn't look so red.

Although this is designed specifically for lips, I also find that it is good for certain other places on the face too. I use mine to tidy up my eyebrows, I find that sweeping some along the browline helps keep them neatly into place. Also, if you ever use fake tan on your face if you dab vaseline along your hairline it stops you having tell tale orange lines across the top of your face. If you are prone to flaky skin, dabbing a little of this will sort it, although it is a little too greasy to use too much on the skin.

This product is fantastic and I recommend it to everyone whether you have dry lips or not! It is a very small investment to make and can last ages so you don't really have much to lose. It makes an excellent base for applying lipstick over, giving a flawless finish with more staying power, or you can use it on it's own to make your lips look and feel healthy, shiny and kissable!
