Advantages: Versatile, fab tin, lasts ages and ages and ages....
Disadvantages: It may take you ten minutes to get the lid off
I would be really surprised if anyone didn't have vaseline somewhere in their house. It's one of those things you tend to have a pot of somewhere and never get through it. Vaseline is petroleum jelly, a greasy semi-transparent kind of grease is the best way to describe it.
These pocket sized vaseline pots are just great. Firstly they cost around £1 each for a 20g tin. Which brings me on to the tin, there is just something lovely about having something in a tin, makes it feel like a proper old fashioned remedy and something that will fix anything. It looks like the kind of thing my Gran would have had in the medical box alongside the magic ointment. The design of the tin is quite old fashioned too, it's just lovely.
There are several varieties in this range, and the particular one I have is the one with added aloe vera. I have owned all of them, and still do as they last so long. I do feel that the aloe vera gives the vaseline better softening and healing properties.
What is is good for? A list is probably best here;
1. Chapped lips/cracked lips/sore lips/dry lips.
2. Taming wild eyebrows...use it on a toothbrush, they'll stay put all day.
3. Softening cuticles.
4. Chapped skin, anywhere.
5. Runners nipple! (not that I run, but my husband does and he smears it on his nipples before a race to stop them getting sore, don't tell him I told you)
6. Babies bottoms and bits and pieces, of course.
7. Sore noses if you have a cold or hayfever.
8. Put it around your nose and the horrible pollen will stick to it and not bother your sore nose.
9. Put it around your eyes too...see point 8 (not very attractive though)
10. Cover your hands in it and then put gloves on and sleep in them to deep moisturise your hands (also not very attractive in bed, but good in the morning)
11. In your shed/garage to lubricate screws etc, apparently.
12. Anything else you can think of please add in the comments section!
A 20g pot is small, just right for your handbag, it lasts absolutely ages. Just one negative, sometimes it's really hard to get the lid off, it just pushes on and you can struggle for ages. Still love the little tin though!
Summary: A must have in your handbag or manbag.

- 16/06/09 Excellent review, I find this a bit too greasy for daytime use so i use it on my lips at night. I like your list of ideas though, Susan |
