Advantages: Soothes dry skin, has many other uses

Disadvantages: May actually dry out lips over time

Vaseline Lip Therapy is basically a pocket-size version of Vaseline's petroleum jelly. It usually costs between 90p and £1 depending where you get it from, and it's available in most supermarkets, chemists, beauty shops etc. so wherever you are there's likely to be a stockist not too far away.

There are many different brands of petroleum jelly available these days, but being the most widely known one, Vaseline tends to be used as another word for the stuff. In fact there are plenty of people who know what Vaseline is, but wouldn't have a clue if you asked them about petroleum jelly, which just goes to show how Vaseline have dominated the market.

This Lip Therapy version of Vaseline is really handy in a little pocket-sized tin so that you can carry it anywhere with you. I always keep some of this in my handbag, it's one of my must-haves, as it just comes in handy for so many things. The tin is blue and white with a pull off lid which is really easy to open but always stays on tightly whilst it's in my bag. There's 20g of product in the tin, which doesn't sound like much but it seems to last forever.

The product is a yellowy colour, just like any other petroleum jelly, and it has a really greasy texture. It's greasy and slimy and to be perfectly honest I don't like the texture of it at all, but it does it's job so I'm willing to put up with it. It doesn't really smell of anything so you can use it anywhere and no-one will know you've got it on.

It says on the tin that Vaseline will soothe dry skin and lips, which I guess is it's primary use, but there are so many other things it can be used for. The texture makes it go on really smoothly, but it doesn't absorb into the skin, it just sits on the surface of your skin, which makes it great as a barrier cream. It does feel quite nice on the lips, and it makes them feel moisturised and soft for a while, but I get the feeling that it does actually dry them out in the long run and you become dependant on it and have to apply it more and more often.

I use this on dry patches of skin I get around my ankles which can become quite itchy and sore, and it soothes the skin and after applying it regularly it softens the skin and makes it less dry. I love using it on dry skin, but I would never use it on any on my face, just because the texture is so greasy and because it sits on your skin it can clog your pores.

I do use it on my eyelids though, either just to give a nice natural shimmer to my eyes in the summer, or under eyeshadow to make the effect bolder and make it last longer, it really makes it last well. I also use it on my eyebrows to keep them in place and make them look a bit more well-groomed. I always keep a flat eyeshadow brush handy for using this on and around my eyes, it comes in really handy for applying it and works really well, you just have to make sure you wash it often so that the bristles don't get clogged up with product.

I really do think this a product that everyone should have, it has so many uses and the little pocket-size tin's great for keeping it handy for when you need it. There's also an Aloe Vera version and a version with SPF15 available in these pocket-size tins, so there's different choices if you don't like the plain one.

Recommended!

Summary: A versatile and handy little product from Vaseline
