It's coming to that time of year again where the weather is getting colder and my lips start to dry up and feel sore. Time to get some vaseline. I always carry pocket size vaseline with me during the winter months because my lips dry up so quickly they become red, chapped and really sore.

Vaseline is made up of mineral oils, paraffin, and microcrystalline waxes which form a smooth jelly (petroleum). When applied to sore areas this jelly helps to moisturise the skin and repair it. The vaseline which is normally used for lips comes in a small tin containing 20g of pertroleum jelly and can be purchased from any major supermarket, boots, superdrug and pharmacies. The price varies depending on where you buy it from but at Tesco it's on sale for 84 pence. I think this is a fair price, I tend to buy one at the beginning of the winter period and it lasts for ages, (I've still got half left from last year and there's no use by date on it so I'll use it again this year). The tin is very small and is easy to slip in your handbag or pocket so you can always have it on hand for the day. The only disadvantage about this design, is when your hands are really cold and it's a new tin then the lid is sometimes difficult to get off but I only seem to get this problem the first few times I open the product.

Vaseline is so easy to use, just rub your finger in the jelly and then rub, onto the sore area (lips) until it's absorbed. I find that before I go to bed I put extra on so when I wake up in the morning my lips feel smooth. It's so easy to share this product but do be aware as it is for the lips and cold sores can be easily spread this way.

Overall, vaseline is a life saver for me during the winter months, I don't have to worry about sore lips, it's cheap, easy to carry and very effective. I've got mine ready for the winter, have you got yours?
