Vaseline is a brand of petroleum jelly based products available on the market, products include moisture creams, body lotions, deodorants, hand creams, lip balms and many more.. Petroleum jelly contains a mixture of mineral oils, Paraffin and Microcrystalline waxes which combined together form a smooth jelly like substance and has the unique property that at just about body temperature it is able to melt into the skin and create a two sided barrier, this allows it to trap and lock in moisture within the skin allowing it to build up therefore keeping skin moist and supple but also is able to create a barrier protecting the skin from the outside world too.
Taking these facts into account Vaseline has created a variety of skin care ranges designed specifically to help protect and repair the skin and, one of these is the Vaseline Lip Therapy range. The Lip Therapy range is designed to help maintain the lips natural moisture barrier by forming a protective barrier between your lips and the elements..unlike our skin our lips are unable to create moisture naturally and because of this it leaves them susceptible.
Their are currently four different versions of Lip Therapy available on the market, they all contain Petrolium jelly but each one contains other unique ingedients so all have their own unique selling points. The packaging is fairly simple, all four come in a dinky (I like that word lol) 20g round metal tin which fits perfectly into a pocket or handbag, they have a simple pull off lid which I am glad to say fits back onto the product nice and snugly so that it doesnt fall off as I certainly dont like the thought of the contents of my handbag being caked in vaseline..Ewww!
The tins seem fairly durable, mine all get a fair bit of battering from the inner depths of my handbag by various things floating around in there so the tins usually end up with a few dents and some of the colorings of the tins get scratched and chipped off but thats really just to be expected, its only general wear and tear and it isnt exactly the end of the world as its the contents thats the important thing. Now as I said their are four different versions of Lip therapy and the only thing that really differentiates these are the colour of the tins and their product names......
Lip Therapy Original: This is the one that comes in the Royal blue and white tin.
This is basically just vaseline, none of the added extras. It helps to trap moisture into our lips whilst protecting them from the elements from the outside world.
I have also found that the original has other suitable uses which Ive found myself searching through my handbag for including:
-Moisturising extremely dry skin.
-Aiding in the healing process when I had a tattoo done and helping to protect it.
-Ive used a minimal amount on the outside of my nose when Ive been suffering a cold to stop the drying out and cracking of the skin around the nostrils.
Another use which I was extremely thankful for having it in my handbag for was to use on the first sign of nappy rash on my sons bottom when he was yourger.
A 20g tin of Original Lip Therapy retails at £1.19p
Lip Therapy SPF 15: This is the one that comes in the yellow and white tin.
This one combines Vaseline original and sun protection so helps protect your lips from the suns harmful rays, a great one to have in your handbag in the summer months or taking away with you on your holidays.
A 20g tin of Lip Therapy SPF 15 retails at £1.69p
Lip Therapy Aloe Vera: This is the one that comes in the green and white tin
This one combines Vaseline original but also contains Aloe Vera extracts.
Aloe Vera is known to have many beneficial properties including soothing the skin, repairing and promoting new cell growth. It also contains Vitamin-E which helps to lock in moisture.
so this lip therapy is very good for those who suffer from chapped lips and want to give them a little added tlc as soon as you apply you can feel an instant soothing effect.
A 20g tin of Lip Therapy Aloe Vera retails at £1.19p
Lip Therapy Rosy Lips Lip Therapy: This is the one that comes in the Red and white tin.
This one combines Vaseline original but also contains added rose and almond oils and has a distinctive red tint. Rose oil is known for its soothing properties and almond oils are known for their nourishing properties which helps make the skin smooth and soft.
As I said this one has an added red tint to it, this brings out the lips natural rosey colour, subtly giving the lips a little colour and shine, Great for when you want a little added colour, great for those gloomy months and suitable for everyday wear.
A 20g tin of Lip Therapy Rosy Lips retails at £1.49p
Now over the past year or so I have had all four of these different tins floating around in the botom of my handbag as I just love them and find them all really effective in their own ways.
They all have their own unique properties so some people may have their own personal preference to the one they use and why.
With all these little tins a little really goes a long way( I find they can last up to six months and thats with daily use)
You only need a minimal amount on your finger each time you use it, it goes onto the lips easily and for me personallyI find it lasts a good two to three hours before I need to re apply. Although I will admitt during the colder months I do apply it more as I like to try to prevent chapped lips.
The only thing I think that some people may find off putting about this product is the greasy residue you will get on your finger tips and lips once you do use it, other than that I would definately reccomend that you give one of these a go, I carry it around almost everywhere with me and they are in expensive so wont break the bank and last well.
You can purchase thee at any good Chemist or Supermarket.
Summary: A great product from vaseline for giving your lips a little added tlc
