Vaseline Lip Therapy
Advantages: Treats dry/chapped lips, has many uses, is cheap
Disadvantages: Unscented, can feel greasy on lips
As I have discussed in previous reviews, my favourite lip balm is Carmex. Last year as a Christmas present I was bought a gift set of Vaseline Lip therapy - it was a giant Vaseline tin which inside held 4 Vaseline lip therapy tins - the original (blue), the aloe vera (green), the rosy lips (pink) and the cocoa butter (brown). This review is of the original Vaseline Lip Therapy tin (blue).
This product comes in a round blue metal tin with the Vaseline logo on the top. The lid of the tin has a little ridge around it meaning it is easy to grasp and lift off. The lid fits securely meaning there is no chance it will fall off in your handbag or make up bag.
The product inside the tin is the original Vaseline petroleum jelly. This tin holds 20g of product. The product can be easily applied to your lips using your fingertip and it easily glides onto your lips. This original Vaseline lip therapy is unfragranced, which is a disadvantage for me as I do like a little bit of a scent from my lip products. For this reason I prefer the Vaseline aloe vera lip therapy which has a nicer scent.
I find that Vaseline feels slightly greasy on my lips and tends to sit there for longer than other lip balms which are more easily absorbed. I do find the greasy feeling slightly unpleasant but think it is a good thing when my lips are really dry or chapped, as it gives them a protective barrier to ensure they don't get even more damaged. My favourite way to apply this to really chapped lips is putting on a thick layer before bed at night, in the morning my lips are softer and smoother.
As well as on your lips, this Vaseline can be used in a number of other ways for example:
- On dry elbows or knees (although it would probably be better value to buy a larger tub of Vaseline if using large amounts in this way)
- Use a small amount to smooth down and tame eyebrows into place
- Recently when I had a cold the skin on my nose was very dry, I applied Vaseline before bed and it was cured by the morning
- Mix with caster sugar to make a homemade lip scrub
The Vaseline lip therapy tins vary in price depending on where you buy them and can be found for as little as £1 which I think is really good value. It is available in most chemists and supermarkets. I have no objection to putting this on my lips and think it does the job, but I still prefer my Carmex!
Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review useful.
Summary: A good basic lip product
