After years of searching for a foundation that didn't dissapear after a few hours or rub off on to my clothing / children I finally settled for pressed powders only to come across Virgin Vie All in One Step Face Base. This can be applied using a brush or the make-up sponge that comes with the compact.
If you prefer a thicker coverage then I would advise using the sponge, however you can hide blemishes with a concealer stick and use a make up brush to apply the face base for a lighter more natural looking coverage.
After years of searching for a shade of foundation that didn't make me look pasty or orange, I finally settled for One Step Face Base Ivory.
Would definately recommend to a friend. Could be considered pricey compared to other similar products on the market but still cheaper than some of the other well known names that pale in comparison.
I am a huge fan of mineral make up now but prior to discovering this, I used the one step face base by Virgin Vie.
**Bigger and better!**
Never one for doing things by halves, I purchased one of the demo kits that Virgin Vie consultants use (at parties) - I bought this off ebay as you can't really get them from the shops.
This meant I had all five colours in a flat velcro wallet, the shades are Honey, Alabster, Ivory, caramel and sable. Why on earth would I want all five shades? I found that the darkest colour could be used as a bronzer and the lightest one as a highlighter and a good base for eyeshadows. All those in between I varied depending on time of year and if I had a tan etc.
**Great holiday kit that packs flat***
The most useful part of having the wallet was that on holiday I always had the perfect colour base whatever my skin tone.
**Also available singularly**
I realise not everyone would want all five and if you buy them singularly from the shop you can get your colour in a nice mirrored compact. I think you can pick these up for around £15 and they also do refills for £11. You can pick up the refills on ebay a bit cheaper too. Using daily, I'd say the compact would last 2-3 months.
So, on to the product performance, it really is a one step base which gives great coverage and is long lasting. I just feel that the mineral make up gives a more natural finish. If you use too much of this product it can feel a bit drying on the skin.
Application is easy, you just apply it with a powder puff in even strokes and it covers up uneven skin tone and any blemishes without any cakey ness. Although it's a powder it does go on really smoothly. You get full face coverage in seconds so it's fast application.
Would I buy again? Not at the moment, I'm currently liking my mineral makeup but did use this for ages and really liked it at the time.
Virgin Vie One Step Face Base
I used to work as a Virgin Vie Partly Planner. I received LOADS of free products and was introduced to some ESSENTIAL products which I can no longer live without!
The One Step Face Base is one of those products!
I use two colours of face base for the different times of year. I use the beige colour in winter when my skin seems to be paler. I use the honey in summer when my skin seems to have more colour to it due to the sunshine!
The face base is a powder and comes in a lovely compact with applicator sponge. The compact is usually blue but sometimes they do limited compacts, for example I have a stellar beauty one which is gold.
The one step face base is £15 and the refills are £11.50 - a great price for a quality product.
The face base provides a smooth, even cover on your face and conceals blemishes and spots quite easily without the need of having to 'cake' it on.
You will buy the colour to match your skin and therefore there is never THAT horrible foundation line on your jaw bone.
It is a perfect base for bronzer and blusher and lasts ALL day. The make up put over the face base also lasts all day. I only have to apply my blusher on in the morning and it is still perfectly visible when I arrive home from work some 9 hours later.
A must have product for girls:
* Who want an even, smooth coverage
* Who sometimes experience blemished skin
* Who DON'T want a 'foundation' line
* Who don't want their foundation to be obvious
The product lasts me for 1 1/2 - 2 months and I use it every single day.
I never leave the house without applying the one step face base and it is quick and easy to use making it perfect for girls on the move or in a rush - usually me!
I first came across this product when I went to a Virgin Vie at Home party at a friend's house. I have very pale skin so I have tried loads of different foundations, powders and foundation/powder combinations over the years to find something that doesn't make me look orange. I decided to give this a go in the alabaster colour.
What you get
The face base comes in a simple but attractive case with a mirror and the application sponge. It costs £15 which is not the cheapest but it lasts well and is reasonable when compared with purchasing a foundation and powder separately. You can purchase refills for £11.50.
This really is the simplest base to apply. I apply it over any concealer or under eye brightener I am using. It literally only requires sweeping the sponge provided over the face. No blending and no mess. It takes about 10 seconds to apply.
This does not provide a thick coverage but gives a natural finish which evens skin tone and hides minor blemishes. It doesn't feel heavy on the skin and can be touched up through the day as necessary. Much easier than trying to touch up liquid foundation and powder.
It is the best match I have found for pale skin. No orangey tones to it. There are six shades to choose from which cater for all skin tones.
This is the quickest and easiest foundation I have ever used. It is easy to slip into a bag if you think you would need to touch up. I find that it lasts really well.
Value for Money
It offers good value for money when compared with buying a liquid foundation, applicator and powder separately. It lasts for ages.
I have always purchased my one step face base through a Virgin Vie Consultant. You can also buy direct through the Virgin Vie website
I would highly recommend this product. It is by far the best foundation I have ever tried and I have no intention of trying anything else. It does exactly what it is designed for and does it well.
Virgin Vie's One Step Face Base is an all in one powder foundation which claims to be all you need to master the art of a perfect complexion. The Virgin Vie website claims that in the sweep of a sponge this product helps you create a flawless base which looks as though it's taken hours to create.
I first discovered this product when attending a friend's Virgin Vie party some years ago. Feeling obliged to buy something I went for this which looked like a great way to avoid the messy application of liquid foundation, I've been using it ever since. In that time I've tried a number of different powder foundations but found that this one is the best for me.
The Product and Application
The foundation which comes in an attractive dark blue circular compact with mirror and applicator sponge is available in six shades, alabaster, ivory, honey, caramel, sable and soft beige. I am quite pale and so use the Ivory which works well for me even when I have a slight tan.
Refills are available for the compact as are replacement sponges although I don't find it necessary to buy replacement sponges very often (perhaps about one every eighteen months).
Application of the foundation couldn't be easier, simply use the applicator sponge to apply direct to the face as you would any other face powder. This product leaves you with an even skin tone perfect as a base for other make up or on its own.
The compact is a handy size to carry around with you and the ease of application means that touching up your make up on the go is no problem.
Price and availability
At £15 for a compact containing 12g or £11.50 for a refill containing the same amount this isn't the cheapest foundation on the market but a refill lasts me just over 6 months and so given how easy it makes applying my make up it's a price I'm more than happy to pay. A replacement sponge costs £3.50 which I consider to be very expensive for what you're getting.
The product is only available at Virgin Vie stores (of which there are 13 scattered around the country mainly based in large shopping centers and outlets), through a Virgin Vie representative who can be found through the website or directly from the Virgin Vie website www.vieathome.com.
In summary I would really recommend this product, it really makes getting ready in a morning so much easier!
If, like me, you are one of those people who just can't seem to apply foundation to give a natural looking finish, then The Virgin Vie One Step Face Base is a must. Combining a foundation and powder together into the one compact pressed powder makes application simple, quick and very easy. I'm not really a great make-up lover but let's face it there are just some days when you really can't leave the house without it and, if like me, you don't always have very much time to apply make-up then you might find the Virgin Vie One Step Face Base the ideal addition to your make-up bag.
The Virgin Vie One Step Face Base comes as a compact power. Packaged in a very stylish, shiny, deep blue transparent compact with the trademark "V" just visible through the slightly domed lid of the compact. The compact is easily opened by pressing and releasing a small catch on the front. The inside of the lid is a mirror, a must for those little touch-ups when out and about. The pressed powder again has the trademark "V" embossed into it, giving it a definite look of sophistication. Like the lid, the tray of powder is also hinged and if lifted you will find a little compartment below housing a thin, round make-up sponge. Overall a very classy looking piece of make-up kit.
As with any foundation you should always apply the One Step Face Base to moisturised skin, this helps you to apply the foundation more evenly to your face giving a better finish. Using the sponge, which should be slightly dampened, you should gently apply the One Step Face Base starting at the centre of your face and gently blending in towards the hair and jaw lines.
I was amazed at how easily this foundation was applied. It smoothed into my skin very evenly giving a really soft blended finish, covering small blemishes without concealer and not only giving my skin an even tone but a super matte finish too. I have really dry skin and often powders can leave my face feeling a bit tight and itchy but this One Step Face Base seemed to leave my skin feeling quite moisturised for the whole day. It was also really easy to touch up later on in the day with no obvious signs of touch up being apparent. I also liked the fact that only a really small amount of the pressed powder was needed to give good coverage. The damp sponge spread the powder really easily across my whole face.
The Virgin Vie One Step Face Base is available in 6 different shades - Alabaster, Caramel, Honey, Ivory, Sable and Soft Beige, a really good choice of different shades making is very easy to find one to match your complexion well.
The One Step Face Base costs £15, which when I bought this at my friend's party, I did feel was a bit expensive but now that I have seen and used this product I would definitely recommend it and say it was well worth the money. Not only does it look great but it really is 2 products in one.
I really loved this product, it saved so much time and gave a super finish. It looks great and seems to last for ages. Once you have eventually finished it too, because the compact powder is on a hinged tray you can just buy a refill for it instead of having to buy a complete new compact set. The refill costs £11.50. Both the whole compact set and the refill hold 12g of powder. Also available are replacement sponges, but at £3.25 each for a make-up sponge I did think this was rather expensive and when I do need to replace my sponge I will buy a much cheaper one!
If liquid foundation is more your thing then this can also be used as a powder over the top of your liquid foundation, to give a lovely matte finish.
A super great looking foundation and powder in one that gives great results.

Vie At Home (formally Virgin Vie Cosmetics, Virgin Vie At Home) One Step Face Base is an all in one powder foundation. Vie claim that one is sold every two minutes!! It is by far their best selling all in one foundation.
It is available in compact (£15) and refill £11.50). The compact case colour is seasonal, they have had red and gold in previous Christmases, but is generally a dark blue colour with a 'V' logo on the outer case and the classic Virgin 'V' logo on the powder foundation itself. I do not know whether they intend on changing the logo now that they are no longer part of the Virgin empire, since Branson sold the company. The lid of the compact holds a mirror and under the powder itself is a little stow for the face sponge which is provided with the compact only (not when you purchase a refill). The powder foundation whether in the original compact or as a refill is 12g.
I have been using this foundation for nearly 5 years since I first discovered what was then Virgin Vie Cosmetics. I have to say it is absolutely positively the best make-up product I have ever purchased and I will purchase nothing else (unless Vie fold and it goes out of production).
The foundation comes in 6 different shades; alabaster, ivory, soft beige, sable and honey. I sometimes use soft beige and sometime use ivory depending on the natural tan I may have at the time. On occasions I have actually mixed the two shades to get the perfect shade for me. The shades are so easily blendable, but they are lacking one for much darker skin (there are other products that would suit though).
The all in one foundation is extremely simple to apply, just sweep on to your face starting from the centre with stroke outwards, blending as you go. It never fails to give me a flawless complexion.
It lasts for hours and hours once applied and also the compact/ refill lasts for an age. I wore this make-up on my wedding day and only topped up twice during the day, which was from around 9am when it was first applied, until around 4am when I finally went to bed. During a working day I would not need to reapply.
If you haven't found your perfect foundation yet, give this a whirl, you will not be dissappointed
fantastic product for all skin types. I found the price initially to be a little more than most high street unbranded types but having bought it 5 years ago wont use anything else. The compact is very compact, with the application sponge stored in ots own little space under the actual powder. There is a good size mirror in the lid and the lock on the compact is very secure but not difficult to open at all. The face base is available in a range of 'real' shades, not like orange, less orange and even less orange, but real skin tone colours. The Virgin Vie range is available via cosmetics parties and their staff as really knowledgable. I have parties on a regular basis to try the new products and renew/top up my range. The face base itself is a powder but does not go on like any other powder, it is extremely fine and therefore does not clog or clump on the skin, almost like a cream finish. It stops any shiny patches of skin, and does not dry out your complexion. And it lasts so such a long time that you realise it was a false economy buying several cheaper brands in the past. I do not wear mine every day as I alternate it with another of their foundation products but my face base so far is about a year old and still has plenty left.
I have always had problems trying to find a foundation that matches my skin colour and also has good coverage. I have bought everything from top of the range foundations costing £30+ right down to the lower end of the market foundations - and when i finally (after years of searching!) found one that suited me they stopped making it!!! So back to square one.....
It was only when I was visiting a shop to purchase yet more foundation with a friend that she recommended the foundation she used - Virgin Vie One Step Face Base. I have to admit that although I had heard about the Virgin Vie cosmetic range I knew nothing about the foundation. My friend ordered me online the Ivory One Step Face Base for me to try for just under £15. I was a little concerned that the price was a little more than I really wanted to pay but I figured that if it was as good as she said it was, I was willing to pay it!
The Face Base arrived within a few days and I have to say I was totally - and I still am! - amazed by it. I have only ever used a liquid foundation so to find that the foundation was a powder was a little surprising. Before I put the foundation on I could see that the shade was perfect for me so I was very happy on that score. My only reservation was that as it was a powder would it give me the coverage that i was used to with the liquid foundations? I needn't have worried! The foundation went on effortlessly and took me half the time to put on than with the liquid foundations I previously used. For me a good foundation also has to last all day - and I have to say it does.
However, when I recommended this to my Mum, who generally has quite dry skin, as opposed to me who doesn't (!) she couldn't use the foundation after a couple of weeks as it made her face even more dry.
For me though its perfect and the other great thing about it is that once the foundation has ran out you only have to buy a refill which is about £10 instead of the whole One Step Face Base again. The One Step Face Base also comes in a variety of shades so there is one for everyone.
I purchased this foundation after going to a Virgin Vie party and having the makeover.
This product comes in a compact with a mirror in the lid and a sponge which is underneath the power (ideal for carrying around in your handbag for emergency touchups).
The foundation can be applyed using the sponge either wet or dry (wet gives a heavier coverage).
It goes on quite easily and smoothly and the end result is a powder finish.
This product is ideal if you are in a rush and want fast results, it does not give a really heavy coverage so is ideal for day/summer use.
I don't use this foundation every day as I sometimes prefer a heavier coverage, and also I don't think it would last very long if you where to use it every day. However I do like to have it in my makeup bag for when I am short on time and need a quick fix.
I first starting using Virgin Vie One Step Face Base around 3 years ago. I was at my friends Virgin Vie party and normally I dont really buy much at these parties as I normally wear Benefit, Channel or Mac makeup.
However I always found it very hard to buy foundation as you try it in the shop and it looks good under their lights but when you get home its either the wrong colour or the consistency isnt good. I thought I would ask the consultant to try the One Step Face Base out on me and I was really surprised I liked the result.
It is a foundation and powder all in one although you apply it with a dry sponge, the application is fantastic its not dry like a lot of these products can be. Although I did normally go for a liquid foundation because of my dryer skin type, I thought this would be brilliant for a quick everyday application and also great to keep in my handbag for touchups whilst out and about. So I purchased one and since then have never looked back.
It costs £15.00 for a new compact which comes in a handy little case with a sponge applicator and a mirror, although you can buy the refill of foundation which cost £11.50 and you can also buy replacement sponges at £3.25 each.
So 3 years on I have never looked back, I wear this foundation every day, and if I am going out for the evening and want an extra coverage I use a liquid foundation underneath and then Virgin Vie One Step on top as my powder which last ages.
You can buy Virgin Vie products in their shops, via a Virgin Vie consultant at a party or direct from their website.
Definatatly get this foundation! I swear by it! I have it in the shade ivory and it blends with my skin tone perfectly even all year round, I don't need to buy different shades at different times of the year depending on my tan because it blends so well. But then again I don't tan that much anyway so this may vary with different people.
I was always the sort of person who bought a new brand and new type of foundation when mine had run out, until my mum bought me this one and it's honestly great.
I think it's about £14 from the Virgin Vie website, and then when it runs out you can just buy the refill for about £11 off the same website which just slots into the same container.
It's also a very reasonable price, it's expensive to some people when compared to some foundations you find in the high street, although works loads better and in comparison to the whole make up market this is actually very cheap for what it does!
I use it once in the morning and sometimes keep it in my bag for if i want to touch up during the day but i never really need to.
The great thing about this is you only need to use it on its own, you don't need any other products to use with it. And I also manage to put loads on when I have evenings out, without it looking orange which is rare with foundations.
I get all excited when I order a new one because it has the Virgin Vie logo embedded in the powder and I like watching it slowly fade (as sad as that sounds!)
The sponge that comes with this is also the best sponge I've ever used with a foundation, it doesn't end up drying out and flaking or anything, and it also doesn't absorb too much of the foundation either. I've been using the same sponge for ages now and it hasn't gotten worn out and tatty at all.
But overall this foundation is honestly really good and I won't ever go back to any other brands. I always recommend this to my family and friends, and I almost cried when I dropped and smashed my one the other week and realised I would have to use a different brand until I had recieved my refill replacement off the internet.
After first being introduced to this foundation by a friend I used it as my main foundation for a couple of years because I thought it was fantastic. I don't use it so much anymore, but I still think it's one of the best foundations I've ever tried. You can get it from Virgin Vie stores, a Virgin Vie consultant or from their website and it costs £14.25 for a 12g compact.
There are only 6 shades to choose from (alabaster, ivory, soft beige, honey, caramel, sable) so if you want a perfect match for your skin tone you may well be disappointed as not many different tones are catered for.
This is more than just a foundation, it combines a foundation and powder into one easy step. It contains finely milled powders to give a smooth and even finish whilst helping to disguise blemishes, and leaving a shine-free finish.
It comes in a stylish blue compact with a mirror in the lid. To open the compact you press a little catch at the front and the lid lifts up. Inside is the powder which has the Virgin Vie logo indented into it. What's great about this compact is that the plastic tray that the powder is in lifts up to reveal a little compartment underneath for storing the sponge, which is very handy especially if you're taking the compact out and about with you.
Using the sponge that comes with the compact, the powder smoothes really easily over the skin to give a gorgeous even finish in seconds. It really is so easy to use, you just sweep it over your skin with the sponge and then make sure it's all blended at the edges and that's it, you're done!
I have to admit when I first tried this I was dubious about how well it would work as it just looked like a powder and I didn't think it would give much coverage, but I was very pleasantly surprised. You can get a nice sheer, even coverage by just doing one layer over your skin, or you can build it up in more layers to cover darker or more obvious blemishes. Either way it gives a really natural finish and feels really light on the skin. I can't even tell I'm wearing it once it's on and my skin feels really soft to the touch.
I have combination skin which sometimes gets very oily in the t-zone but can be very dry in other places. I find this foundation really stops the shine from creeping through and my skin looks matte and fresh all day or night when I'm wearing it. I do find it clings to any bits of dry flaky skin but it doesn't look as bad as most foundations do in these areas so I'm really quite pleased with it.
It also makes a really great base for other makeup, my blusher goes on real easily over the top of this and stays on longer. This does last literally all day or all night depending on when you wear it and the look doesn't deteriorate at all during wear, it stays looking as good as it did when I first applied it. It doesn't feel like it's clogging my pores and if anything it seems to help dry out any spots I get so that's a bonus. It comes off fairly easily with just cleansing wipes or a gentle cleanser so anything stronger would probably have it off in a jiffy.
Probably the best features of this foundation are the fact that it's just so quick and easy to apply, and that when it runs out you can buy a refill for your compact for £11.25 instead of having to pay the full £14.25 every time. You can also buy replacement sponges for £3.25, which to be honest I would like to see a bit cheaper as they don't really last that long before they're past their best.
Overall I'm really pleased with this foundation, the only reason I don't use it so much anymore is that sometimes the shades don't suit my skin tone. I have the alabaster and ivory shades, which are the 2 lightest ones, and for most of the year these are Ok, but then sometimes I look at my skin with the ivory one on and it looks really pink whilst the alabaster looks really pale, so it would be nice for them to come out with a few more shades in between the ones they already have.
I tend to use liquid foundations and have a vast array of products and different shades depending on the time of year it is and whether or not I have a bit of a tan, I wish!
Well at this time of year, I haven't got a tan, and although I don't have a 'pale and interesting' complexion, I feel white for me! So out comes the Virgin Vie One Step Face Base which I replenished in January as my old one had run out after two years of winter month usage!
~ Price and Availability ~
This cost £14 for a 12g compact but the beauty of it is that once you have the compact and the base runs out you can buy a refill for £11, which is what I have just done.
You can get this:
* At a Virgin Vie party night
* Online at www.virgincosmetics.com
* At a Virgin Vie shop although they are few and far between at the moment, but luckily my nearest shopping centre has one.
~ Colours ~
It's available in 6 different shades:
* Soft beige
I have the soft beige, which is ideal for my skin tone at this time of year.
~ Packaging ~
This comes in a lovely black compact with along with an applicator sponge.
When you receive the foundation it will have the familiar 'V' logo on the top surface which eventually wipes away the more you use it.
~ What skin type is it suitable for? ~
I'm quite bad at taking any heed of skin types, I tend to get something I like, without paying much attention but I really should. So for those of you who do things correctly, the one step face base is suitable for normal to oily skins.
~ What is it? ~
It's a powder and foundation all in one.
~ My experience ~
Well I must like it since as stated earlier I've just bought a refill for the compact.
At first I wasn't sure about using it since I don't suffer at all from oily skin and rarely had to use a powder on top of my liquid foundation, in fact I used to find that powders dried my skin too much especially around my nose.
But I really was pleasantly surprised by this product. It is very easy to apply with the sponge, it goes on easily and smoothly giving a very even finish and certainly doesn't dry my skin out, it doesn't feel dry and powdery at all, an excellent mix between a foundation cream and a powder.
The colour of it is so inline with my skin tone at this time of year that it really doesn't look as if I have make-up on, not giving the awful heavy, 'too much' make-up look, so it's great for daytime wear.
I never wear make-up for work as I never have the time or the inclination on a morning but when I meet up with friends during the day this is a great foundation to wear. I must say though if I'm going for a night out this wouldn't be my first choice as I prefer liquid foundations for the night time, don't ask me why, it's just a personal preference!
It lasts as well...........I don't need to re-apply it after a few hours but despite this it easily washes off at the end of the day or night.
I have quite a few of the Virgin Vie foundations, it all depends on what mood I'm in on which one I choose to wear. I have found all of them to be of excellent quality and well worth the money, especially since this one cost £14 and lasted for 2 years. Here's hoping the refill lasts the same length of time.
This product was recommended to me by someone who had already bought it at a Virgin Vie party and now uses it instead of regular foundation. I have also made the switch myself.
I really like using it as it is very quick and easy - much better than traditional foundation creams - and I am able to apply it smoothly all over my face with no smears or lines. It comes complete with an applicating sponge. It appears quite solid but actually applies very smoothly and easily.
It takes away the shine from your skin. The different shades are very natural and tone in well with your natural colour.
The face base comes in a lovely little compact which has a mirror in the lid, and then there is an additional pocket tucked away under the face base to store the sponge so it is very easy to use when you are out.
I would say that the one disadvantage is that it does not come with any spare sponges because after a while it becomes past its best!
The face base lasts pretty well throughout the day and you also don't need to apply face powder over the top. I certainly feel more confident with my makeup as a result.
