Advantages: Great for combination skin, demi-matt finish gives a nice glow
Disadvantages: Can only buy in Virgin Vie stores, a bit more expensive than high street brands
I was looking for a gift for a friend's birthday when I spotted the reduced section across the other side of the shop. Being one for a bargain I had a rummage through the cosmetic section with products like mascara and nail varnish marked down to 1/3 of the normal price.
Most of the products on offer were either weird and wonderful colours or on foundations on the extreme ends of the colour spectrum. Now this is a good thing for me as I'm quite pale and there are usually one or two foundations in these kind of sales that suit my skin tone, this day was no different.
I found one of the two bottles that were left on the shelf that were the colour alabaster (yes very pale) and the colour seemed to match quite well to my skin tone, and even better it was for sale at a knockdown price of £5.00 for 30ml from the normal retail price of £14.95.
The foundation has a pinkish base tone to it which may not suit all skin tones but I took the plunge and bought it as I knew that my skin would darken and change slightly over the summer as I might get some colour to my cheeks at last this year!
It's supposed to give you a semi-matt finish and it say's it's an SPF25 which is quite impressive especially if i'm going to be using this over the summer. On the back it tells you that it blends in beautifully and it gives you a gorgeous and flawless demi-matt finish. It also claims that it won't dry your skin out of let shine creep through so it sounds perfect for combination skin like mine.
The dispenser is a little pump action top which is nice as you don't get much air into the bottle, preserving your foundation for longer but not so good if you only need a tiny amount, it can be easy to waste it if you press too hard. It comes in a nice slim dark blue plastic bottle with silver text on which is classy and it's not too chunky so it fits into your makeup bag no problem.
The makeup is a nice thickish liquid, not too runny but still light enough to feel you don't really have makeup on at all. It blends really well into your skin and it feels like it contains moisturisers in to as if feels lovely and silky once applied. It does a not too bad job of covering up imperfections but some more 'prominant' problems still creep through although this is where concealer comes into its own.
I would say it's a medium coverage foundation, light enough to use everyday without being to claggy and mask like, it still leaves room for your natural skin tone to show through. Staying power is quite good as well, although it doesn't quite last all day it does a good job of staying put through a hot day in the office.
I found that it did really well at hiding shine from my T zone as well as not feeling over dry around my cheeks, as it's a demi-matt finish it still gives a nice glow as I think there must be reflectors in the formula but that gives a good look during the summer when you don't want a completely matt and odd looking face.
All in all I was really impressed with this product and the price for me was even better, I think I would definitely be tempted to buy this again.....even at full price!
Summary: Look out for this in the sales!!
