Yves Saint Laurent Eye Pencil
Advantages: A long lasting, jet black, soft liner
I received my Yves Saint Laurent eye pencil as part of a gift pack, however it is normally priced at around £18, but can be found for cheaper.
My prior eye pencils I have nothing to complain about, I always bought high street regular price brands which did a good job and lasted well; to be honest I wouldn't really thought of changing had I not got this one in a gift pack to try.
What I found most alluring about this eye pencil is how soft it is. My other pencils have been just that - they feel like a relatively firm pencil when applying to my eye area, this however feels much more like a crayon in comparison. It is so soft that I can hardly feel it on the inner eye lid and need to exert virtually no pressure to get a good line. The deep dark black is of consistent depth when used on my eye area being slightly darker on the skin as opposed to inner eyelid where two coats I apply for a very dark bold look.
As the pencil is so soft it is quite easy to smudge for those dusky smouldering eye looks, yet I find the pencil tip sharp enough to provide a clear thin line for precision marks. As the pencil is so soft I tend to put mine in the fridge for a hour before sharpening so as not to break the point.
So does the colour last? Yes in a word.
On my inner eye lid where it is in constant connection with the liquid of your eyes moving, it last a few hours. Now this I find acceptable as I feel the colour strength is good until then and then requires top up anyway.
On my upper and lower eyelid the lines are present for a good number of hours I would say on average five hours - this does depend on what I am doing on a night out I may reapply along with the rest of my make up. What it does not do is run - good considering it is waterproof, the only time I have found it to run a little was in a torrential downpour when walking the dogs and I was busy wiping the rain out of my eyes. To note there is a non waterproof version available but as it is virtually the same price it seems bizarre not to go for the waterproof one.
Would I recommend it or buy it again?
100% yes and I will try different colours at a later date.
Some may feel the price is a little steep but considering it is to be used within 24 months of first use and my pencils last generally a year this I feel is very good value for money.
The pencil itself comes in five different shades black (mine), blue, brown, burgundy and green. It is opthamologically tested and has been deemed suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
Available from www.yslbeauty.co.uk www.amazon.co.uk www.ebay.co.uk plus various other beauty websites and also in the shops such as house of fraser and larger beauty department stores.
