I'm not the biggest fan of lipstick because I don't think it suits me very much and it can look a bit harsh with my pale skin tone. I do need to wear something on my lips however as I can look too bare without it and so I splashed out on the YSL Golden Gloss Shimmering Lip Gloss.
What does the product do?
The product promises to give your hair a lick of colour which shimmers with real 24 carat gold and a mirror effect, mother of pearl finish. It also promises to nourish the lips using a variety of natural oils which promises to leave the lips feeling comfortable and looking beautiful.
There are a lot of shades to choose from so there should be something to keep everyone happy. There range from pinks to purples and browns to purples. They have cute names such as Golden Petal, Candy Pink and Golden Champagne. I chose the very pretty Candy Face which is a corally pink. All of the shades are shimmering so if you like a matte finish, these won't be for you!
How do you use the product?
The product needs to be applied to clean lips. It can applied either alone using the attached wand, carefully sweeping the brush over the top and the bottom lip. It can also be used over the top of your favourite lipstick to give it a lovely finish. The product can be reapplied as required.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within the usual metallic looking gold cardboard box that I associate with YSL. The gloss is contained within a rectangle tube and you can see the product inside so you can see the exact colour that you're getting. It has a gold rectangle lid which has the YSL logo on it and the wand is attached to the lid. The brush has plenty of bristles which are short in length. The product looks classy and you can tell it's an expensive product. You'll need to splash out about £20 in order to purchase the product and it can be bought from stores such as Boots and also from a variety of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product is doesn't really have an aroma which doesn't really matter in a lip gloss but I do find it to be a welcome addition, especially if it's a nice sweet one. It is really easy to apply to the lips and to ensure that you're accurate because of the short bristles. I don't find myself making many mistakes because of the brush and the brush holds a fair amount of the product so application is quick. The product feels really hydrating on the lips and it hasn't caused me to feel any discomfort or irritations at all.
The colour is partly sheer and you can see still the natural colour of my lips underneath. The product has a very shiny and glossy finish, with a splash of pretty colour and a gorgeous shimmering sparkle. It isn't a childish sparkle or it does look classy. It makes your lips looks really pretty and eye catching. It does has a slightly sticky finish really is to be expected with a gloss but it's not overly tacky. The lasting power of this product is what lets it down and it is mostly gone within a few hours, especially after eating and drinking. I don't really want to keep applying a product which costs this much. It doesn't leave my lips feeling dry once it has worn off which is really good news.
All in all, this product looks beautiful and makes my lips look shimmering and pretty. It feels comfortable and it easy to use. The draw back are the staying power and the price so I wouldn't be able to justify buying another one... Although I don't anticipate mine running out any time soon.
