A brilliant foundation that should last a long time and looks perfect on the skin

I've had this foundation now for a week and have to say I love it! It was bought for me as an early birthday present but it costs £29, which is more than I would normally spend on a foundation. I decided to go for this one because I'd heard great reviews and was in need of a good all-rounder foundation.

First things first, the packaging is really classy. It comes in a 30ml glass bottle with gold writing with the name of the foundation and a gold lid. The box it comes in is also gold. The bottle has a pump dispenser, which is what I prefer, and according to the lady in John Lewis, one pump is enough for a whole face. I have found I only use half a pump as I don't like to use foundation where I don't need it.

The colours are a little confusing. There are three 'ranges' of colours - B, BR, and BD. B (beige) is for neutral skin tones, BR is for pink undertones, and BD is for yellow. I believe there are seven shades within each range, so the chances of finding the right colour for you are high. I initially went for the lightest shade (10) in the BD range as I have very fair skin with yellow undertones. However, I found it looked slightly too dark in the shop and the saleswoman persuades me to try the BR colour, as it looked slightly lighter. I never would normally go for a pink undertoned foundation, but I found it looked much better on my skin, taking away some of the yellowness. It also made my skin look brighter and less 'flat'. I'd definitely recommend trying a few different shades to find the right one like I did.

The consistency is lovely - quite thin and runny but it blends beautifully into the skin with no visible edges or lines. You can use your fingers, which I find works really well, or use a brush. It smells beautiful too, and not too strong - the scent is quite clean. The coverage is good - light to medium - but it is easily buildable. I don't like a heavy look during the day so I use a thin layer and pat more on where I need it. It really evens out the skin tone and leaves a glowing, smooth look to the skin.

It lasts fairly well throughout the day, even in the hot weather we've been having in London recently. It does get shiny on my skin - which is combination - but it doesn't go patchy and weird like other foundations do. You can always top up with more powder if you notice it getting shiny, which works well and doesn't end up looking too cakey. If you have really oily skin this might not be the best foundation as it does have quite a glowy finish and definitely does not dry to a matte consistency. Another plus is that it has an SPF of 19 in it, which is a bonus when it's sunny.

Pro-tip: In John Lewis now there's an offer on where you get the foundation for £29 plus a bronzer worth £30 as a free gift. It's definitely worth going into a shop to get this, as I also got a sample of the BD10 foundation to mix in with my full sized bottle if I needed it and a free 20ml sample of the Yves Saint Laurent Cleansing Foam when I bought mine.
