Advantages: Leaves skin feeling soft, helps you to relax

Disadvantages: Price

One of the main things any heavily pregnant woman will tell you is how uncomfortable she is!! I know because a month ago I was due to pop any time and feeling like a beached whale!

Looking round Boots one day near the end of my pregnancy I came across Avent Relaxing Bath and Shower Essence reduced from £4.99 to £2.49 so I thought it was a bargain not to be missed and hopefully it would relax my aching muscles and back! Looking at the bottle, it claimed to de-stress and leave skin silky smooth and contains vitamin E, provitamin B5 and marine extracts. It is hypoallergenic and dermatologist approved pre and post birth. I also noticed a badge on it saying Mother and Baby Magazine award for excellence so I had a feeling it would be good when I bought it, and Avent is a high quality make as well.

The bottle is clear with a blue lid. You can see the contents which is a pale blue liquid. It is 400ml size, which lasts quite a while as you don’t need much to get bubbles in a bath.

That night, I ran a nice hot bath and squeezed a blob under the hot running tap. The consistency is quite thick so its good as I hate it when you squeeze the bottle and loads comes out too quick! It produced a good amount of bubbles but not so much I’d be spluttering in froth (as some bubble baths do). The smell is hard to describe but there is definitely a hint of lavender in it. It is a pleasant fragrance, not overpowering but gentle. The bottle describes it as a citrus fragrance with a hint of lavender but it doesn’t smell that citrussy to me. I had a good long soak and I can honestly say that coming out I felt much more relaxed and my skin was left feeling really nice and soft. I continued to use it in a bath every evening and even used it in the early stages of labour as it helped me to relax.

This product can also be used in the shower and was excellent for my post-birth shower as it left me feeling really clean and helped me wind down after the labour! As it is dermatologist approved I wasn’t worried about using it and it didn’t sting when I washed in it even though I had stitches, however I used tiny amounts just in case.

This product is available in most places that sell bath products, I have seen it in Boots and supermarkets. As I mentioned before, the usual price is £4.99 but I was lucky and saw it in a sale for £2.49 so it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled.

The main advantages to this product is that it leaves your skin feeling soft and smelling nice, it helps you relax and it leaves you feeling nice and clean.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that £4.99 is quite a lot of money for a 400ml bottle of bath and shower essence and when you have a baby you need all the money you can get with the cost of their essential items!

I would definitely recommend this to pregnant women and new mums, and also I think it is suitable for anyone else who needs to relax as it really does work and is gentle on the skin.

Summary: It really helps to relax and leaves skin feeling soft
