      Good quality pads

This is a review of Boots Ultra Slim Maternity Pads which I moved on to when the lochia (bleeding) had slowed down a couple of weeks after giving birth to my second child. I knew from the first time round that I would need lots of maternity towels and stocked up before hand buying both these slim line and the thicker basic pads from Boots. Packaging The packaging has been updated since the picture listed with this review and the packs are a nice minty green with pink accent. Inside the pack, the towels are all individually wrapped so nice and hygienic and easy to slip in your pocket or bag unlike the thicker more basic pads which are not wrapped. In use I won't get too graphic here, I'm sure you don't want or need to know what happens down there after childbirth, and if you do already know, you've probably been through it! Basically the pads are slim and long in length with wings and an adhesive back and they provide a discreet and reliable cover to absorb a light bleed. When I change mine every few hours, I pop the old one in to a nappy bag and bin it as you are not supposed to flush them away and don't want to risk blocking your toilet or the local sewer! Price These towels are slightly more expensive than the packs of 10 (which are £1) and cost just under £2 for 12. My thoughts I think each type of pad serves a purpose. The basic ones are more absorbent but these are more comfortable to wear and can also come in handy before giving birth if you are worried about your waters breaking as your due date approaches. I found these better overall but do not think they would have coped straight after birth with the blood loss. I also used the basic style after the waters were broken in hospital when I was walking about and don't think these would have been absorbent enough for the job. Final word It's not a nice thing to think about but getting organised whilst in pregnancy, I bought a couple of packs of these whilst pregnant knowing I would be using them afterwards as it can be difficult to get out and about shopping. I would recommend these for light loss and have not been let down by mine.

        not for me

After giving birth you really are in need of maternity towels and there are so many on the market, but most of them are thick unlike these ultra slim ones. These maternity towels are longer than normal sanity towels and they have wings which help them to keep in place which helps leaks. The towels come individually packaged so are easier to carry around with you and you can dispose of used ones more hygienically. These towels cost £2 for a pack of 12 which is about double the price of standard maternity towels and when you are going through a packet every 2 days the price really does matter. The absorbency of these towels are very good but for me they didn't quite do the job just after giving birth, like most women I bleed very heavily. I also found that like many women I was stitched after the birth of my children and because of this I was very sore down below and I found that thick maternity towels gave a little padding in that area, which the ultra thin towels lacked. Over all I think these towels would be good as you maternity bleeding slows down and you are not as sore and delicate as just after giving birth

          ideal for use after pregnancy

After just having your baby you are obviously going to experience some after effects and around that area the thing that you will require most is comfort. These are great....considering how slim they are they have great absorbancy. The normal maternity pads that they do are about as thick as your average mattress !! so as u can imagine not very comfortable. When i saw these on the shelf in boots i was pleasently suprised as before these i had been using the standard ones not liking them at all. They come in a pack of 12 for the price of £2.00 which isnt really very many and believe me you go through them quite quickly. They are a bit longer than normal sanitary towels so you can ensure minimum leakage outside of that area which is always nice to know. They also have wings and i find that any sort of towel with wings stays in place alot more than those without. Each towel is individually packaged so you can dispose of the wipes hygenically and discreetly. I found these very good absorbancy wise and can say that i never experienced any leaks so to speak. The only thing i think is a bit disappointing is how many you get for the price but definitely a good alternative for anyone who doesnt like the idea of the bigger bulky versions as these in my opinion have just as good absorbancy.
