I came across this Cocoa Skin Therapy Oil last year whilst browsing in our local Home Bargains back in early summer and although I have been using it more or less every day I find I am only just coming to the end of the 50 ml bottle.
I honestly thought it would not be much use for the 99p I paid for it but I have to say that it has really helped my dry and somewhat dehydrated mature skin and I will definitely be stocking up for the future.
The box itself is not very exciting as it does not 'jump out' at you so could easily be missed? As I recall I found it amongst the cough mixtures and home remedies rather than skincare products but Home Bargains may have different layouts in their stores. The reason I say it is a product worth looking out for is that, compared to some online retailers this is far cheaper and, having used Palmer's in the past at nearly £8 I think this is a 'steal'.
The product is intended to help improve the appearance of stretch marks, dry/ageing skin and scars. Whilst I cannot state its efficacy regarding scars or stretchmarks I can state that the oil has helped improving the texture of my skin - especially on my elbows, heels and outer thighs. I have used the tiniest amount under my facial moisturiser and it seems to make it more effective and longer lasting.
All the information required seems to be listed fairly clearly on the box as it gives directions and lists all the ingredients. It is advised that the product is gently massaged into affected areas twice daily which I have done plus I add just a drop or 2 into a running bath and it certainly makes a difference. I think using any more would probably leave the skin a little greasy so I would certainly say less is more in this case.
The bottle itself looks somewhat similar to those you would find in the Body Shop, it is made from lightweight plastic and has a sturdy white cap which reveals a tiny hole which means you can dispense it drop by drop. The information is repeated here too so it can be distinguished from any other products in the bathroom.
The oil itself is quite dense and pale yellow and has a faint biscuit smell which is very subtle so I reckon it can be used by men too. It states on the box that it is suitable for all ages and can be used during and after pregnancy which is good to know.
The only concern I have is the list of ingredients which seem to have long names many of which end in -ate, -ol,-yl and because it is a long list and such a long time since I studied chemistry I am not sure whether these are all natural ingredients. On the positive side though it contains vitamin E and cocoa butter so at least I know a little about what I am applying.
In conclusion I have to say I like this oil a lot and certainly notice a difference if I forget to use it. I would recommend giving this a go as the price certainly does not reflect the quality in this instance!
Cocoa skin therapy oil
Price-£1.00 from poundland for a 50ml bottle.
I suffer with very dry skin on my face, have a scar from when I had my belly button pierced which looks horrible so thought I'd buy this oil for £1.00 and see if it makes any difference and if it doesn't well I've only lost a pound.
To use this oil you massage it into the area twice a day.
Well my face now feels alive and not dry at all which I'm very pleased about. I haven't been using it twice a day like instructed I've only been using it first thing in the morning but it lasts all day I find which is an added bonus.
My horrible scar has not gone completely, but then I don't expect it to but it looks less obvious and I'm happier. never to get my belly button pierced again, I'm sure a lot of peoples wouldn't have scarred as much as mine did but I was allergic to the bar and it become very infected and I kept knocking it when I was working with children.
Cocoa skin therapy is formulated to improve the following
Stretch marks before or during pregnancy
It can also be used as a moisturiser for all the body including the face, which is a real added bonus as I find a lot of products especially if I go in boots I'm told not a lot of screams and oils can be used on the face.
This has been clinically tested and does not contain any animal derived ingredients and has not been tested on animals.
This oil contains cocoa butter (which explains the lovely smell) and vitamin E
What I love about this oil is it doesn't make my face look greasy and wet after I've used it which I was worried about but I only use a small amount. A small amount goes a long way I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and I feel that this bottle is going to last me a good couple of months.
I would definitely recommend this product, I can't however inform you if it works on stretch marks during and before pregnancy or for ageing skin, but perhaps one day I'll update this review to include those two aswell.
I recently bought some of this Cocoa Skin Therapy Oil by Sun Tropic at a Poundworld store when I was shopping. I hadn't intended to purchase a product like this but when I saw it I thought it sounded quite impressive and figured that for only a pound it was worth trying.
This product is an oil for skin all over the body including the face. It is specifically useful for stretch marks, scars, dry skin and ageing skin. In this sense it is a bit like the renowned Bio-Oil but a lot less expensive! The oil comes in a box which has some information printed onto it. The packaging allows you to easily read about the major qualities of this product so you can quickly read it in store before you buy.
On the back of the box there is extensive information regarding how to use the product, full ingredients, contact information and detailed information about how the oil can help with all of the problems areas of skin as previously mentioned. Specifically the brand claim this oil is great for preventing stretch marks during and post pregnancy. They also say the oil can rehydrate skin which is dry or old and therefore lessen wrinkles. They say it can be used as a facial moisturiser too.
I've recently discovered how important vitamin E is in helping to nourish my ageing skin and was pleased to see that this oil contains vitamin E as well as softening cocoa butter. There are no preservatives in the oil and it has been clinically tested by the brand's experts.
Inside the box is a little 50ml sized plastic bottle. It has a secure screw on and off top. The dispensing hole is small like that on the top of a vinegar bottle. The plastic of the bottle is slightly malleable so you can squeeze tiny amounts of oil through the hole very easily. Or you can turn the bottle upside down and just tap it.
Since the bottle is transparent (and fully recyclable) you can see the oil through the bottle. It's a kind of yellowy green colour and has a glossy sheen. It's not as thick as something like cooking oil and is about as runny as baby oil liquid.
I have been suffering from dry skin on my arms so I thought I'd try the product there initially to test it out. The first thing I noticed upon applying the oil was the wonderful smell it has. It smells so chocolately and delicious. It's a very pleasing scent that makes me want to apply more and more!
The oil is easy to rub in and not as greasy as you might expect. It sinks into the skin quickly and doesn't leave a horrible slick of greasiness. I was concerned this would sit on my skin like suntan oil does but it actually absorbs into the skin like a good moisturiser.
The oil transforms skin instantly after application. My skin feels much softer immediately but it also looks healthier because it has this glowing sheen to it. It has worked particularly well on some dry patches I have on my shoulders which are problematic for me and which I always have to lather in moisturiser. This oil has kept the patches under control.
The oil also works well as a facial moisturiser which I find remarkable as I've never used an oil before on my face. I imagined it would just be too slippery and not at all suitable for a make-up base or for a fresh bare faced look (because of perhaps being too greasy) but this is not the case. The oil sinks in and doesn't leave you looking sweaty or shiny.
I'm really pleased with my purchase and didn't think that I'd get as much pleasure and benefit from using something that is so cheap! I would definitely recommend this to other women as it is so versatile and effective.
This is a review of a bottle of Cocoa Skin Therapy Oil, made in England by a company called Tropic Sun that I recently emptied. As I have mentioned in previous reviews, I'm now in the third and final trimester of pregnancy and am doing my utmost to prevent the dreaded stretch marks and keep my skin nice and supple and stretchy.
I spotted this bottle of oil in Home Bargains and thought I would give it a try. At 50ml it's a tiny bottle but with oil, a little bit goes a long way so no need for a massive bottle.
I have used this oil directly on my skin and also a generous squirt in the bath when I am not washing my hair, the lazy way of getting the oil on to your skin! The smell of this oil is quite delicious, buttery and yet not overpowering. It is not as strong smelling as some other cocoa butter oils I have used which is fine by me. When applying in the day time I tend to wear a bump band over the area of skin I have just oiled to protect my clothes from absorbing the oil although I have had not had any problems laundering the oil from where it has touched clothing.
The bottle is packaged in a thin cardboard box, which is brown and white and inside is a plastic bottle which is clear with a white screw top lid. The top of the bottle has a small hole that you can shake or squirt the oil from. The actual oil is a clear yellow colour that I think has a tinge of green in it too.
I thought this oil was a great bargain for 99p. You can also find it online and it is a little more expensive with the postage too.

I like this oil and think it is great for the price. I am probably a bit heavy handed with it when it goes in the bath as I think well it didn't cost a lot and I can get more! It doesn't absorb in to the skin as quickly as the stretch mark creams I have used but I do like how soft my skin feels after use and it's not really greasy. I think I will get some more of this and continue use after the baby is born as it seems to have done a good job so far.
A repurchase is on the cards for me next time I visit Home Bargains!
