For any mother who has had or will be having a C- section, this is the very best product you can buy. It is a soft stretchy band of cloth that holds your muscles in so every movement is not pulling at them. It also has a soft padded insert which means if you are breastfeeding the baby is not constantly kicking against the incision which is an incredible relief. It has a gel pack which can be chilled. Another pack has little beans or something like that, and goes in the microwave. I found this more effective for pain relief than any of the medication I was given. A hard plastic shield to protect from bumps is also included, but I found this would move and dig into the incision so never used it. It is machine washable and mine was washed constantly. In spite of constant washing it retained all of it's stretchiness. I honestly do not know what I would have done without this product. There were complications with my surgery and for some reason I had two full incisions. One refused to close and would burst open at the edges weeks later with much activity. I was told just to hold a pillow across my stomache whenever I stood up or moved. This gets awkward very soon. The very first thing I did when I was able to get downstairs was look online for something that would work better than a pillow and I found this. It is a bit expensive, at about £19.00. If I had another section I would pay 10x that price if needed. In fact I would certainly buy two for when one was in the wash. I often put this back on wet rather than wait for it to dry. I wish they had told me about this in the hospital, and I do think the nhs should offer them. I know it costs money, but so do pain meds, extra days in hospital, infections from burst incisions etc... If you will be having a planned section, I can not advise enough that you have one waiting! If planning a natural birth - I would still have info on how to order this handy just in case so hubby can have it coming in the post before you leave hospital. I hesitate to use the words miracle product but this is nothing short of a miracle for pain relief and mobility! The only disadvantage to this other than having to have had a section at all would be that it does leave a noticable bump under clothing. At that point I really did not care.
7 weeks ago i had my second child and my second c-section. I had looked into these on the internet as my daughter was 2 and a half when my son was born and i was really worried about her jumping on my knee or tummy afterwards and hurting my wound. So i took the plunge and invested in one of these, and it was the best thing i could have done! Not only did it protect my wound from any bups/knocks, it gave me a bit of support when i was feeling fragile and wobbly for the first week or 2, especially when out in the car (as a passenger!!). It comes with 3 inserts, a cushion, a heat pack and a cooling pack, and a plastic shield to give extra protection and has a variable fastener to fit most people.I wore mine day and night for the first couple of weeks until i started to feel better and my wound was healed up. I really would recommend these to anyone having a c section.
This allows new mothers to enjoy bonding with their baby and resume normal daily activities with more confidence.
