“ Brand: Blooming Marvellous / Clothing Type: Maternity Pants & Shorts „
I was quite upset to find out recently that the pregnancy and baby store Blooming Marvellous store is no more. Apparently they have sold out to Mothercare and so some of their products are going to be sold through Mothercare but I find when this happens the range is never the same.
It's a shame because when I was pregnant the first time I bought quite a lot of maternity clothes from their store and was looking forward to buying some more things from them for this pregnancy but now I will just have to make do with my clothes from last time. Once of the items I bought were a pair of roll top jersey trousers.
Black trousers are handy no matter what you need them for. I have always had a nice pair of black trousers for when I was younger going clubbing, in my work day when I needed to look smart and now during pregnancy. In fact, I think these were probably one of my first buys when my first bump started to appear as I had the rest of the wardrobe but needed something on my bottom half that would go with everything. I was pleasantly pleased to find these.
They are quite a casual trouser and I think that has to do with the fact that they are made of a jersey material. To me, jersey is always quite casual but the fact that they are black means that you can make them look a bit dressier if you put on a nice top with them. Similarly they can look really comfortable and fitting if you are just wearing them with a t-shirt. THe material is very comfortable and clings in all the right places, they do not make me look fit or show up my lumps in a bad way, they seem to skim over the bad parts quite nicely and show off my figure well.
The roll top is the best part about these trousers. This means you can either wear them under your bump or over your bump as the roll top material is stretchy enough to go over your bump or sit nicely underneath it. This is great as sometimes different tops work different ways, sometimes you need extra material over your bump, sometimes you don't so to have the choice with one pair of trousers is excellent.
If I remember correctly they were in the £20 region from the shop in St Albans, not too bad for a pair of trousers that are now seeing me through a second pregnancy, I'm just sorry you can't buy them anymore.
Why these trousers
As every pregnant woman knows your whole wardrobe changes over the course of your pregnancy and your normal clothes are consigned to the back of the wardrobe. Trying to find reasonably priced maternity clothes where I live is tricky really as you have three options Mothercare, Mama's and Papa's and a very exclusive maternity fashion shop. With this in mind I started searching the internet and came across these trousers they were described by "Mother & Baby Magazine as The perfect 'dress-them-up-or-down' stretchy black trousers" being the sucker at times for advertising that I am I was sold and bought these. I had found a promotion code for free delivery and 10 % off so was even more pleased with myself especially as they arrived from the catalogue very swiftly.
What are they?
The trousers are made from black jersey material which consists of 96% viscose, 4% elastane. They have a comfortable roll top -which can be worn either over or under your bump. The trousers come in three leg lengths short regular and long to ensure you get the perfect fit. Personally mine were short as I am only 5 foot 2 ½ and the length was fine.
In use and opinion
Appearance and comfort
I have to admit that these trousers were one of my best maternity clothes buys. I personally found through my pregnancy that I preferred to have trousers that covered my bump. Yes you do look a bit like Simon Cowell with your trousers up by you armpits but it felt more comfortable than below the bump. Plus it made your pregnancy bump looked less like a beer gut hanging over your trousers as some below the bump trousers can do, which is a look I just came to hate. Also I never felt my bump was secure or supported with trousers below my bump.
These trousers were lovely and soft and the jersey material made them have a flowing quality so they lie very well on your legs. The bottom of the trousers is slightly flared in a sort of boot cut style. This was useful for me as I could wear my boots under the trousers without spoiling the line of the trousers.
The roll top with its elastane seemed to gradually stretch with my bump and never felt either so tight that I felt restricted in them or so loose that I had to hitch them up like I had to with some other trousers. The stretch in them seemed to be a perfect combination of support for your bump and comfort for you.
I found these trousers gave me enough warmth winter to keep me and bump nice and cozy.
I found these trousers to be a good wardrobe basic when pregnant as I could dress them up with nice tops for evenings out. I wore them to work with some flowing tops and cardigans and they looked smart and professional. It was also possible to just slob in them with a big jumper and curl up on the sofa.
These trousers washed very well and never started to fade or get any bobbles on the material during the time I wore them. Due to the elastane you can't tumble dry them or they will shrink. It was because of this I ended up buying a second pair of these so one could be in the wash and drying whilst I was wearing the other.
Overall and recommendation
These are a great pair of trousers that can be dressed up and dressed down dependant on your needs. They are comfortable to wear and provide support for your bump. They wash well and I found them to be a must have in my pregnancy wardrobe. I would definitely recommend these to any mum to be.
