I bought this vest from New Look as a relatively cheap addition to my maternity wardrobe. At the time of purchase it cost £7.99, but is currently reduced to £5 on the New Look website. It is a nice colourful design, which actually looks a bit "busy" from the picture, but in real life is a really lovely design with butterflies printed on it. It's also available in red as well as blue.
The vest is made from 100% cotton, but does have a little stretch to it as it clings to your bump. It has ruching at the sides which is what allows the vest to grow with your bump - I've been wearing this vest for about four months now, and it still fits me well so has grown with my bump. The ruching is quite flattering, so rather than looking like you've squeezed yourself into a vest which is too small for you, it draws attention to the right areas and makes your bump look nice and neat.
The rest of the vest is fairly basic, with a scoop neck and no sleeves. Yes, we might be approaching winter, but I'm still getting good use out of mine because I frequently experience hot flushes which are common in pregnancy, so I tend to layer tops like this with cardigans instead of wearing big thick jumpers. The fit of the vest is also very good, with it being long in the body so you're not constantly pulling it down to avoid exposing your bump. It can be worn with jeans or leggings, and is long enough to wear with leggings without feeling like your backside is being exposed. I bought mine in size 12 which was my pre-pregnancy size, and it fits me perfectly, so there's no need to go up a size with this one as is sometimes necessary with maternity clothes.
I was a bit unsure when I first washed this vest, whether the blue colour might seep into the white part of the print, but I wash it at 40 degrees it has always come out fine. It doesn't require ironing as it's quite stretchy material. This is a great vest to wear either early or late in pregnancy, as it grows with your bump, and can avoid that awkwardness at the beginning when people are unsure whether you're pregnant or just putting on weight as it clings to your bump and makes it obvious.
I doubt this will be in stock much longer due to the winter collection being released, but it would be worth picking up in the sale as it's always useful to have vests to layer in pregnancy.

With all the lovely weather we have had this summer I desperately needed some pretty vest tops that would accommodate my growing bump. Its pretty difficult to find nice maternity wear on the british high street especially if you don't want to spend a fortune which I didn't. New look is one of the few places that do and its designed for younger mummies to be as well. Their range of maternity wear covers everything from pj's to smart work wear to pretty dresses and range from size 6 to 20.
I spotted this navy butterfly top in their summer 2013 collection. It was in one of their bigger stores as smaller stores tend not to stock much if any maternity wear. I paid around £12 for the top which I think is a pretty good price. With new look I tend to find their maternity wear is more easily available in more sizes online than in store so if you can't find what you want in store its worth trying online.
The top is a navy blue colour with creamy white butterflies printed all over it. It has thick vest top straps and ruched sides designed to make way for your bump. I found that this top came up pretty small I bought a size bigger than usual and it was a pretty snug fit. At 30 weeks pregnant it now doesn't fit and I wouldn't say I have a huge bump, I'm pretty disappointed with this. The top could definitely do with more stretch too it seeing as its a maternity top so it should grow with your bump.
When it did fit its pretty comfy to wear although I did find the bottom hem to be a little tight. The cotton fabric is really nice and soft so doesn't rub against your stretching sensitive skin. Although like I mentioned previously I really wish it had more stretch to it.
The top does look really pretty with a pair of maternity jeans or denim in general and this tended to be how I wore it.
I've washed this top a fair few times and it always washed really well, I just chucked it in with the rest of my dark washing on a 40 degree wash and it did great. Theres been no fading or bobbling.
I have also tumble dried this top without and shrinkage although I do do it on a cool setting because of the print.
For the same reason I also suggest ironing inside out so as not to melt the butterfly pattern. Doing it this way has caused no issues at all for me.
Overall this maternity top is okay, its certainly pretty and washes really well. I can't help wishing it was more stretchy though so that I could of worn it throughout my pregnancy or at least for a little while longer. I would recommend going up a size at least if not two to get more wear and a more comfortable fit for you and bump. At least its affordable so you don't feel like you have wasted alot of money.
3 out of 5 stars.
