      Next maternity jeans

Like most people in this world, jeans are my wardrobe staple, they look good dressed up or dressed down and are usually quite flattering when i find a nice pair

So, you can go two ways when you buy pregnancy jeans, over the bump or below the bump and thankfully Next offer both pairs in bootcut variety. let me explain further for those of you who have never had to wear pregnancy jeans. the top of the jeans come with an elasticated waist band (a fabulous invention when you've just eaten a big lunch, no need to undo your belt and buttons anymore!!) which is either quite large and can be pulled over your expanding bump or a rather thin band which sits underneath your bump but still keeps your comfortable as your pregnancy goes on.

I much prefer under the bump as I think it looked a lot better on me than over the bump. Over the bump adds too much bulk in my opinion and I found I was always pulling them up to keep them over my bump.

When I was pregnant I practically lived in these jeans, they were so comfortable, fit really well and were quite fashionable I have to say. I was so excited about getting to wear them the second time round that I practically had them on as soon as I found out I was pregnant, any excuse to wear that stretchy waistband!!

The jeans fell really nicely just below my ankle so were definitely long enough to wear with a nice pair of boots or when my ankles swelled up so much, a nice pair of Crocs. I bought mine pair in vintage which is a darkish blue colour with a bit of a distressed look to them. I think the darker colour definitely made them more flattering. The elasticated waist band was really comfortable and never digged into my skin or felt too tight especially near the end of the pregnancy. It did go a bit bobbled near the end of the pregnancy, especially as I had worn them for two pregnancies, with all the washing it went through but that was never a problem for me as I never exposed this part of the jeans anyway.

In essence, these are really pull up jeans as there is no zip or button fly which is nice, just material so they fit really well no matter what stage of pregnancy you are.

The jeans are priced at £28 a pair which I think is a really good price for a maternity item and one I would definitely purchase again if the need arises.

A great staple for the maternity wardrobe

Well everyone I am now nearly 5 months pregnant and I have got to the stage where my 'big' jeans no longer encompass the growing bump of my little one so we figured it was time to invest in some maternity clothes. As money was a little tight I decided to buy some items from Next, meaning I could use the account facility and pay them off bit by bit which suited me more. I treated myself to 2 pairs of jeans which I will shortly review here and 1 lovely plum wrap over maternity top to get my wardrobe started. I found Next.co.uk had a good selection of Maternity wear and was surprised at how reasonably they were priced and how stylish they were. Clearly the days of frumpy oversized tents are gone thanks god and now there is tight figure hugging tops, skinny leg jeans and flattering dresses. I had looked in a few Next stores and found the collection limited but online there were pages and pages of lovely items to choose from.

I chose a pair of dark Blue jeans and a pair of Black jeans, both bootcut and both with the narrow band at the top. There was a wide selection of jean styles ranging from the bootcut ones, too skinny, loose fit and boyfriend style. Each style also comes in a huge range of sizes all they was up from Size 6-Size 22+. All jeans are available in petite, standard, and long lengths meaning you can find the best pair for you. As I was a Size 12 pre-pregnancy I was a little unsure of what size would be best as although at the moment the only weight I have put on is my bump I wanted a pair of jeans that would last me all the way through and figured I may put weight on later not only on my belly so opted for a Size 14 in both the black and dark blue.

When the jeans arrived the next day (love that about Next - ordered at 9pm on the Monday and they were with me by 11am Tuesday - wonderful) I eagerly tore open the blue pair to try them on. I had really lasted as long as I could in my non maternity jeans and they had become a tad uncomfortable to say the least. I was impressed with the feel and look of the jeans instantly. They were a rich dark colour, the jean material itself felt of excellent quality and the pair of jeans themselves looked good quality and nicely not overly maternity-like!

The jeans are stretchy which make them uber-comfortable and have a nice sleek band all around the waist that stretches to accommodate your bump. This is a really stretchy and comfortable band, that continues to expand as you do! The jeans are sooo comfortable to wear. They stretch over your curves and the bootcut style is flattering. I ordered the standard leg length and this was perfect for my 30" legs. The size 14 was a good choice as well as I have since tried on a size 12 in the same jean and although the jeans fitted well the band around the top felt too tight around my belly, whereas the size 14 I had purchased were just right, they held up well but didn't feel tight around baby. The narrow stretchy band not only allows the jeans to be comfortable but it also feels as though it is supporting the baby a little as well. I didn't fancy the jeans with the full belly covering as I though these may feel a little claustrophobic so the narrow band is perfect for me.

The jeans had 2 full pockets at the back and two at the front plus an additional small pocket on the front. The blue pair has contrasting white stitching, while the black pair has hidden black stitching but has a leather effect on the top of each pocket which makes them look a little more dressy.

The jeans wash well and retain their colour and mine have been worn near enough constantly since I got them so have been through the washer a fair amount of times already. They don't crease really as they have the stretch material and even the stretchy bump band holds its shape and strength. The jeans are flattering, well-fitting and come in such a range of sizes and length lengths that you can easily find a pair perfect for you. The jeans are priced at £28 each, which I thought for Next products was very reasonable and is the same price as many of their non-maternity jeans and for the quality are well worth the price.

not a great maternity pair of jeans

      ==Next Maternity Boot cut Jeans==

Now I don't actually fit into any of my regular clothes I have had to order a ton of items from the Next catalogue. They do a good range of maternity clothes and I like the fact it is straight to your door within a day for the delivery (even if this does cost).

These boot cut jeans seemed just like what I was after to go with the various amounts of boots I have and also wear with my wedged shoes. Most of my normal jeans are indeed boot cut so these in maternity would be ideal.

I chose to go up a size mainly because I have seemed to swell since finding out I am pregnant or actually because I am craving milk like there is no tomorrow and I am piling on the pounds. However the size I feel I am was the size I chose in the maternity size and when they arrived, they fitted well.

The boot cut jeans themselves have a thin band of elastic around the waist and are ideal for the ever expanding stomach. In my first pregnancy I always preferred the over the bump jeans and/or trousers but as I am only 17 weeks now the bump is not yet large enough to carry these off but I should think it won't be long before I resort to these ones.

I chose a standard length and at 5 foot 4 inches they are a little bit too long with flat shoes on but having ordered the short size they are far too short wearing flats. So I stuck with these regular length ones and will give them a little turn up when I am wearing flat boots.

They have pockets in the sides and in the back but I daren't put anything in the pockets for fear of the jeans falling down. Because of the loose elasticated waist these trousers are forever slipping down and needing to be yanked up. This is why I remember liking the over the bump trousers and jeans so much during my last pregnancy because most of these under the bump ones would find there way sliding down my hips.

Although this really isn't ideal I decided to keep these jeans in the hope that after a few washes they might be better but to be fair I feel that they have probably gotten worse if anything. I wear them around the house or maybe to nip to the shops in but any sort of gardening is out as my builders bum would be on show and a trip around the supermarket would mean more time spent pulling them up than anything else. It feels as though I could with a good pair of braces!

All in all I don't think these jeans are worth the £28 that I paid for them from Next. I think I possibly would have been better to have bought a larger sized normal pair of jeans that I could grow into and perhaps used a belt with but hindsight is a wonderful thing. So with all this in mind I think a poor score of 2 out of 5 stars is in order for these jeans and I certainly would not recommend them to anyone. The only two marks is because they are a nice soft material, the cut is pretty good so when pulled up they do hang well on the body and also the colour has washed really well after several washes. Perhaps it is just my shape so maybe others will have a better experience with them

I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you

Many thanks for taking the time to read.

OK for occasion wear and also if you are a shorter person!

Buying the perfect maternity jeans is a near impossible feat. I have tried so many different types from so many different stores. These were the best ones I found that had some degree of comfort.

I found the skinny design too uncomfortable while pregnant, and hated over the bump designs. So, I was looking for under bump, bootcut or flare design.

This pair from Next fitted my needs, and I liked the colour and shape. They cost me about £25 (sorry I can't remember exactly) which I think is pretty good considering I had spent nearly £50 on a rubbish pair. They have an adjustable waistband inside the jeans so they 'grow with you.'

I found these about 60% comfortable. Next don't do different lengths in maternity jeans, only their normal range, so being 5"7, found these jeans too short. I had to wear flip flops with them all the time otherwise they looked like ankle swingers!
Even though the jeans are made from material every other pair of jeans are made from ,I found them stiff and hard. I couldn't bend my legs very well in them. I also found they fell down after one day's wear, no matter how tight I made them round the waist.

They washed up OK, but took an age to dry, so I tumble dried them.

I think this pair are good for one day's wear and maybe just for occasions. If I have any more children, I will be sticking to leggings!
