Next Maternity Leggings
Disadvantages: Saggy: what could be worse for a pair of leggings?
One of the things I didn't like about being pregnant was the restricted wardrobe options that are available to you, although things are much better for the expectant mother today than they were for generations past. I was pleased to discover that many of my favourite high street shops have maternity sections with some really lovely items in them. Topshop, H & M, Dorothy Perkins and Next all have a maternity section and I found these shops an absolute godsend in my last few months of pregnancy.
I decided pretty early on in my pregnancy, that comfort was a must. I was not prepared to have trousers that fell down and as a result, invested in several pairs of 'over the bump' trousers which I had previously shunned. I also wanted a pair of leggings which would be comfortable and enable me to wear long tops and short dresses.
It didn't take long for me to find these leggings on the Next website for £10. I was really pleased that they were full length and 'over the bump'. I paid around £3 for delivery. As always with Next, the leggings were delivered the next day. I was really excited about putting them on and having lots more wardrobe options available to me as a result. Sadly, only disappointment was to follow.
I had ordered the leggings in a size 10 which is a size smaller than my usual 12, but have found Next sizing to be a little large. However, my first impression of the leggings was that they were baggy! Not a good look for leggings. I wondered whether I was just being paranoid as my self confidence was a little lower than normal owing to the enormous bump I was carrying around. Fortunately, a well-timed visit to my candid sister revealed that this was not the case, and yes, the leggings did look awful; 'Like elephant skin' as I recall her saying.
I returned the leggings after this and got a refund. However, this did not include the £3 I had spent on postage. In hindsight I think as the product was of such a poor quality I could have reasonably asked for this too.
The story does have a happy ending. I went to H & M and bought a much better pair for £7, which I still wear to this day (even though Baby Frank is now 5 months old).
