Trying to find well fitting maternity clothes has been a real struggle for me, I happen to be tall and very slim so I've been quite fortunate with my tops as I haven't needed to buy any larger sizes but as for trousers and skirts this has been the issue as I'm in between sizes as it is. May not be a problem to some but for me it has been a real hassle! So far my relief has been found at Pumpkin Patch but I have also found well fitting clothes at Next. Because my nearest Next is around 30 miles away I have done online shopping which has proved well worth it!
I have purchased quite a few things from their maternity range but one item I find myself wearing a lot is the maternity skinny jeans. The last thing I wanted to do was wear horrible smocks/ tunics which make you look like a walking tent! I wanted clothes that were near enough like my non-maternity clothes I didn't want to hide my bump under big baggy clothes I just wanted to look nice!
The skinny jeans come in a range of sizes from a 6 to a 22 and come in two different leg types; regular (inside leg 29"/74cm) and long (inside leg 31"/79cm). Even though I tend to take a long leg in jeans and trousers with skinny jeans I tend to opt for a regular leg as they don't end up hanging over your shoes/ sandals/ flip flops and they will be easily tucked into my Uggs come the cooler months.
The skinny jeans don't have a zip and are easily pulled on. However, I did find that they have a short crotch which isn't always too comfortable, especially if you have been wearing them for a while as you have to keep pulling them up a bit. The elasticated waistband is about 4 inches wide and sits just below your bump so in affect they sit on your waist with a little of the waistband covering the bottom of your bump. The waistband is incredibly soft and comfortable and is a dark blue colour which is near enough spot on to the jeans. It's nice to have a waistband which for me doesn't go over the whole bump as I'd find this quite uncomfortable it sits nicely underneath the bump. However, I have found that you do need to keep pulling the jeans up now and again as they are not as tight around the waist as normal jeans!
The jeans have two small pockets at the front, I think they are small purely due to the fact that there is no zip and the waistband is elastic so there isn't much room for them. There are two pockets on the back with some embroidery to give a bit of pattern mostly. The jeans are quite a dark blue which as I said matches the waistband near enough.
I have washed my jeans a few times now and they don't seem to shrink on a 30 degree wash or when put in the tumble dryer (thanks to my partner for helping me out!). They also don't seem to crease so I didn't actually need to iron them at all as they are quite skin tight so any creases disappear as soon as you put them on. The fabric also seems a lot softer than normal denim jeans which is another good thing about these jeans as the last thing you want is to be uncomfortable during pregnancy! The jeans are made up of 99% cotton 1% elastane and the Jersey rib (waistband) is made up of 95% cotton 5% elastane.
The jeans are priced at £18.00 and can be bought from a Next store or online (free delivery if you return by their courier). I think they are great for the value and they are extremely comfortable throughout the day. I couldn't be more pleased with them, they don't even look like they are maternity wear which is nice to feel normal when you feel a bit like a beached whale at times! I would definitely recommend them to all in during their pregnancy as a great alternative to other trousers.
