Silent Night Impress Memory Foam Mattress Topper
by KabyemelaJ
Until recently, suffered from many things. One was an extremely uncomfortable mattress, very tough with no space for anything. For someone's natural position being the "foetus", on my side, I always wake up with a bad arm, with almost no oxygen in it at all! I decided, after being paraded with adverts and recommendations I ... decided to take a leap of faith and opt for a memory foam mattress topper.
It works very well, simply place it on top of your mattress, based on your mattress size. It's quite thick, and at my first night's sleep, I fell in love. I automatically went in to my favourite position, still fearing the worst, to find the mattress dip under my arm, perfectly supporting me. It is incredibly soft, but you won't fall in. It's also breathable, so you won't have a panic attack when you roll over, face on mattress! It's incredibly warm, and I fell asleep with what I recall as around 15 minutes. I woke up, not wanting to get out of bed, but when I did, the foam quickly returned to its original position.
It is compatible with any body, and insomniac or not, this is a must buy! Read the complete review |

Silentnight Now Memory Foam 3 Zone
by ladybracknell
Why buy?.....
After enduring several weeks of tossing and turning in bed trying to find a comfortable position and then waking up with back ache due to a badly placed spring, I decided that my mattress had come to the end of its useful life and it was time to buy a new one. I began to do a bit of research and looked at both ... sprung mattresses and memory foam ones, too. Although I'd always thought that a memory foam mattress was beyond my means, I discovered that Silentnight had one which not only was reasonably priced but had also received the Which Best Buy seal of approval. Although it isn't entirely made of memory foam, having an ordinary foam core topped with a generous layer of memory foam, it was not only approved by Which but Silentnight also claimed the mattress gave support right up to the edges, prevent roll together (for those who intend to share their bed) and it was a no-turn mattress and guaranteed for five years. Sold to the lady who's in desperate need of a good night's sleep!
The next thing was to find the best deal.....
That best deal seemed to be from Sainsburys. They are currently selling the Silentnight Now 3 mattress with a 10% discount plus Nectar points. As almost all the reviews on their website were very positive and with the Which Best Buy accolade being the clincher, I bit the bullet and put in my order. The cost for a double mattress came to a few pence over £168 plus Nectar points and free standard delivery. Delivery was promised between 8 to 12 working days but in fact the mattress arrived within 3 days!
What do you get?.....
Although I'd been forewarned that the mattress would be delivered vacuum packed and rolled, I'd still expected something larger. When it arrived, I was rather taken aback to discover that it came in such compact packaging with the mattress compressed very tightly and vacuum wrapped in heavy duty polythene. To a casual observer it resembles a slightly large duvet but that was where the resemblance ended and it came as a shock to discover that it weighed quite a lot more than a duvet and dragging it upstairs proved to be something of a workout!
Preparing for a good night's sleep.....
The mattress comes with instructions to open up the packaging, allow the mattress to unroll and then leave for 24 hours for the memory foam to expand to its full size. Because of this, I decided to open it up in one of the other bedrooms which proved to be a bit of a mistake on my part. I sliced through the polythene and the mattress immediately began to expand rather like a life raft which is when I discovered that it was opening sideways in a single bedroom! Once I'd (wo)manhandled it to the right orientation, I left it alone for the rest of the day.
Just before bedtime, I checked on the mattress which had expanded nicely to about a 6" depth and I thought it had probably reached its full size so decided that even though it had only been left for about 12 hours, I'd put it on my bed and give it its first test run. It was even harder moving it across the landing in its new form, especially as the mattress doesn't have handles, but I did it.
It's easy to see which way up the mattress should be as the top has a slightly rounded look and a material covering which feels slightly warm to the touch. With the bed made up, I climbed in and discovered just how different memory foam is. It really feels strange compared to a sprung mattress as it's almost like trying to climb into quicksand. It feels very firm but once lying down your body begins to sink into the mattress. However, I'd no sooner climbed in and snuggled down than I was out for the count.
So how was it for me?.....
In the morning, after a blissfully warm, comfortable and undisturbed sleep, I woke to a feeling of great wellbeing: no backache and I felt incredibly well rested. I can honestly say that that first night was the best night's sleep I have ever had and after only one night I knew I'd never want to return to a sprung mattress. One thing I noticed, too, was that the instruction about leaving for 24 hours to expand was justified as the mattress had expanded by another inch in depth overnight.
There must be some negative points!....
Well, yes, there are. The first of these is that initially the mattress has quite a strong chemical smell which is very evident even through several layers of bedding. The smell does dissipate eventually but it took a good month before it disappeared entirely.
I've already mentioned that memory foam feels a bit like quicksand and just like quicksand, it's difficult to move in it or get out of it. No more rolling out of bed in the morning, now it takes some physical effort to get up and I haven't yet mastered the art of doing so gracefully.
I'm not sure whether it's because the mattress is an all-foam construction or because of the mattress covering but it does make for a very warm bed so if you're one of those people who prefer cool sheets, you may find this a bit too warm. For me, this isn't much of a problem in the winter months but I do wonder how it will be trying to sleep when the sumer comes.
The final negative is one I can't confirm (as yet) but a married friend tells me that it's difficult to make love on a memory foam mattress due to the lack of bounce. Personally, I would have thought that finding alternative trysting places would add a little extra variety to one's sex life.
Summing it all up....
Mahatma Gandhi said "Each night, when I go to sleep, I die. And the next morning, when I wake up, I am reborn." Now I understand exactly what he meant! When I get in bed, I sleep like the dead and wake up next day refreshed and happy.
The memory foam mattress provides a completely different sleep experience and one it takes some getting used to but once you discover what a truly good night's sleep is like, there's no going back. It's no exaggeration to say that this mattress has completely changed my life. In fact, it's a good job I've now retired because although I used to be an early riser, I've now turned into one of those people who don't want to get up in the morning and can't wait to go to bed at night. Silentnight Now Memory Foam 7 Zone Mattress
by kayleighmcharris
I've always had problems being able to drift off to sleep with ease, I initially never thought it was due to the mattress I had been sleeping on as it was fairly new, only 6 months old, however when my parents bought me a new memory foam mattress from Silentnight my opinion suddenly changed. My Mattress was purchased from Amazon as they ... were selling it for around £160 reduced from the RRP of over £300, I personally think it is a lot of money to pay out for a mattress that your not sure if you'll get along with, and you can't even try it out first! However I did find that in the end this wasn't a problem for me.
When your mattress arrives you have to unroll it and leave it to stand for 6-12 hours depending on the size mattress you've purchased, mine was only a single so I left it for around 8 hours to be on the safe side. The mattress was true to size and fit into my bed frame with ease. When I first sat on the bed I had the impression that it would be light and fluffy due to my friend's comments that the memory foam mattresses make you feel as if you're sinking into the bed, this wasn't the case. The feel was like sinking, however not to the extent I imagined, it was more firm than fluffy giving my body a safe and structured support. Although I was looking forward to feeling as if I was floating on my mattress, this firmer feel has done my back wonders and makes it super easy to get comfortable for a night's sleep.
I'm not someone who flips, turns or changes my mattress around regularly so this isn't an important factor for me, however it does say on the instructions that this mattress needs to be turned to keep the structure good. The weight of it isn't as heavy as normal mattresses so even if you did decided you wanted to flip it as well it wouldn't be much of a problem.
Another plus is that these mattresses are supposedly bed bug repellent and anti-allergenic so you can also feel clean and safe from those bed bugs at night!
Overall I think this is a good investment for those who need a little extra care and support to help get a better nights sleep, from my personal experience I've found that since using this bed I have a lot more energy in the mornings and feel a lot happier, who knew how important a few hours sleep is!
