Silentnight Ultimate Mattress
by ally_kats_mama
When we managed to get the money together for a new mattress we went to Archer's Sleep Centre online as they tend to have really good deals. We only wanted a Silent Night mattress as we have always used the brand aside from once and the mattress that time was absolutely terrible and was the reason we needed a new mattress! We came across ... this Ultimate mattress and after reading the reviews for it we decided that it was the one we needed. We went for the mattress in the double size and we paid £190 for it.
When it arrived, I was absolutely giddy with excitement - everyone who has had a bed with the springs coming through will know exactly what I mean! It came packaged in protective plastic and was beige in colour with the Silent Night logo and name of the mattress sewn into the bottom of the mattress. One of the things that drew us to the mattress is that it has Silent Night's mira-coil springs which offer you more support for your back and also it has enough support in the bed so you don't roll into the person sharing the bed with you at night time! According to the Archer's website, the mattress also has increased central support which we took to mean that the bed would be firm but comfortable and wouldn't sag as time went on.
The mattress is 27cm deep which was a whole 6cm more than our last mattress! It looked thick and just looked very comfortable.
The mattress was quite heavy and refused to bend much when we were moving it up our narrow staircase. And it took a little bit of time to get into the bedroom as it was so inflexible but I took this as a good thing because it gave the impression of a sturdy, no nonsense mattress.
Sleeping on this mattress for the first time was just a dream. I felt supported and comfortable. The first night we had the mattress was the best nights sleep I had had in absolutely ages. I was actually constantly giggling for about ten minutes when my husband and I first got in it because I had not been used to such comfort!
The mattress, I thought, was fairly cheap considering it is a Silent Night mattress. I can honestly say it is the best mattress we have ever purchased and definately worth every penny. Read the complete review |

Silentnight Ultimate Mattress
by Seven17
I bought this mattress in a sale and it wasn't a case of choosing a mattress by comfort or springiness it was simply "I need a sofa today, andi need it cheap" especially after my old mattress had fallen to pieces. This was a fantastic value mattress, and so far no problems with back pain, or dodgey springs breaking in the ... middle of the night.
The mattress is a little springy but isn't what you'd call bouncy. I like a hard bed, I sleep on my front and side so anything like that is perfect for me but if you sleep on your back and want lots of comfort for your spine you should consider something with a little more give and bounce. Sleeping on this mattress is relatively comfy for me personally but for a bargain mattress you can't really complain, other high end mattresses like memory foam ones are a million times conifer but when on a budget you have to live with what you've got.
The mattress is very thick and the material isn't some cheap fabric they threw on top, it's of good quality, tough, and so far I haven't had any hole in it. The stitching is also very tight around the edges with most of it being visible from the outdside. The sides are a little rough to touch and aren't as smooth as my old mattress but still don't feel exceptionally coarse or sharp.
This is also a very easy to use and set up mattress, just stick the sheets on and you're done, none of this ripping 6 labels off nonsense, there's on guarantee leaflet (important) and a couple labels which are held on by plastic string. These pull off very easily without damaging the material.
The material is very easy to clean because a simple wash down can be done in minutes, and it dries outside in the sunshine very quickly. I have never had any springs breaking or material ripping which is the main part for me, something which I appreciate from a mattress in this price range. Read the complete review |

Silentnight Memory Foam Topper
by ally_kats_mama
Last year our mattress was really on its last legs but at the time we just couldn't afford to buy a new, quality mattress so we took the advice of my mother in law and purchased the Silent Night Memory Foam Topper to try and get a few comfortable nights' sleep until we could afford a new mattress.
The usual retail price for ... one of these toppers is between £60 and £70 but we were lucky enough to find one all by itself with a torn box in Tesco and discovered it was reduced to £25 which was an absolute bargain and we were really pleased. We were going to go for the Silent Night one anyway as I have always felt their bed items are the best on the market so to find it at such a good price was really pleasing.
It came in a blue box with the Silent Night logo on the front and a lttle picture of the topper. The topper was rolled up inside the box so when it came to getting it home, it was simply a case of unrolling it and putting it on top of the mattress. I really thought we had an answer to our problems as a topper is supposed to lay on top of your mattress and give you an extra layer of softness and protection from any lumps, bumps or spirngs coming through your mattress. However, much disappointment and annoyance came from this topper I am afraid.
Firstly, once laid out on the bed, we found that it was a little bit thinner than expected. Out came my husband's tape measure and we found it was only 2.5cm. Not alot really but we were hopeful that this wouldn't mean anything and we would still manage to get a good night's sleep. We have fitted sheets on out bed so obviously the fitted sheet needed to go over the top of the topper but no matter how much we tugged and pulled, our double sheet just would not hold over the top of the topper. It just kept flicking back off. And even when we eventually got it to hold, it made the corners roll up so we could not use a fitted sheet with it and had to use a flat sheet.
When we were using it, we found that the topper went very flat and just didn't seem to give us that added layer of comfort the box boasted of. In fact, althought it was a little bit of an improvement on laying on the mattress, it wasn't that much different. The topper also made both me and my husband feel hot. It didn't seem to allow the heat of our bodies to flow through it. Instead it seemed to trap the heat and thenradiate it back into us. We purchased this when we had really hot weather last summer so this made us very uncomfortable and irritable. In fact it just made us keep waking up each night. Even with the duvet covers kicked off of us it was just like sleeping on top of a radiator. The other thing we found with this topper was that it did not stay in place very well. If you moved around at night, the topper would shift with you. At one point, my husband wasn't even on the topper as it had moved so much!
I would have been so disappointed with this had we paid the full price for it. It didn't do the job it was supposed to and it caused more annoyance than comfort. It definately did not give us a Silent Night! I would avoid this at all costs. Read the complete review |
