When we were buying new furniture and a bed for our spare room, we also had to buy a mattress. As this was for the spare bed and not our own, I wasn't too bothered about spending a whole lot of money on it. What we ended up buying was the Forty Winks Bibby Basic Small Double Mattress from Argos. This mattress usually costs £149.99 but we managed to get it half price during a sale.
The mattress is only available for home delivery when buying online and delivery time is from 5 days. If you need a mattress quickly, this is not the way to go about getting this one. When ours was delivered, the delivery men brought it up to our second floor flat with no problems and put it in the room we asked for. The mattress came covered in a thin film of plastic which was easy to rip open. The packaging didn't really have anything printed on it other than the name of the product.
The mattress we bought is a small double but it is also available in other sizes such as single, double and king size. The actual size of this one is W120, L190, D17cm. I don't really understand 'feels' of mattresses but this one is supposed to be medium which I figured would be somewhere in between soft and hard. This mattress has a stripped finish to it in white, purple, blue and pink which is a bit different as a lot of mattresses are just white. The design doesn't really matter too much though as it is covered with a bed sheet anyway.
Although this was bought for the spare room, I have slept on it a good few times myself. Sometimes when we wash our own bedding I'll have a nap in the spare room. To start with, there is no way that this mattress has a medium feel. As soon as I laid down on the mattress for the first time, I was not impressed. It is extremely stiff and hard and not all that comfortable to lay on. Other people to sleep on it haven't said much about that but I certainly don't like it. As the mattress is very hard, it takes quite a long time to get comfortable enough to get to sleep.
For £149.99, I would have been extremely annoyed with this product. Thankfully we only paid £74.99 and as I don't use it often, it isn't too bad. However, if I had been buying this for my own bed and not the spare bed, I would have had to have bought another one as I can't sleep on this regularly.
