“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Product Type: Mattress Protector „
I bought a mattress protector as we often end up with our children in our bed and they can have accidents as well as being sick when there ill and I didnt want this to ruin our mattress.
I bought mine from Sainsbury's for £10.00 it was the double size which is 135 x 190cm.
It is a plain white colour which is the only colour you can buy however as it goes under your bed sheets its not really that important. I was slightly disappointed when I found that there was no waterproof layer on the sheet as it meant it wouldn't protect my mattress if the kids weed in the bed in wouldn't fully protect the mattress. However as I had paid a lot less then I would have done from many other stores I couldn't complain too much!
The fit on the actual mattress was perfect it streched great around it and so was a nice tight and secure fit so you don't need to worry about moving around in bed and pulling it off. I also found that as they mattress protector is padded and quilted it added an extra layer to my bed and so did make my bed feel that much softer!
The protector can be washed just like all other bed sheets just stick it in your washing machine at 40!
Overall the mattress is what you pay for, it does the job to the best of its ability although not as fully as I would have liked.
Last year I was shopping in Sainsburys and I noticed they had some mattress protectors on sale for under £10. I had recently purchased the pillow protectors and was very happy with them and so I decided to purchase the mattress protector too. I have had my mattress for quite some time now and covered it with a fleecy underblanket, but it often moved around or bunched up despite having ties underneath. These mattress protectors are quilted and also fitted, so they fit snugly on top of your mattress just like a fitted sheet does and I thought buying one of these would protect my mattress and give me the same comfort as my underblanket, whilst fitting snugly and not moving around.
The mattress protector is made of cotton and polyester and is slightly quilted. They are designed to improve the comfort of your bed whilst offering protection for you mattress. I must point out that these are not waterproof at all and therefore not suitable to protect a mattress from a child wetting the bed for example. Nor are they anti-bacterial, but the synthetic filling in the quilting is ideal for anyone who suffers from a feather allergy.
Overall they do exactly what they are meant to do, protect your mattress from some wear or marks whilst providing extra comfort.
My mattress protector was packed tightly into its packaging and on shaking it out, the quilting fluffed up a little making it appear thicker than it appeared whilst in the packaging. For just £7 for the double size, 135x190cm, you maybe would be forgiven for thinking these won't really be up to much, but having been pleased with the pillow protectors I did have similar hopes for the mattress protector.
It fitted snugly on my double bed, so snugly in fact that it was a little difficult stretching the bottom corners over the mattress. I would fit one corner then it would spring off whilst fitting the opposite corner over the mattress! I found it easier to get someone to hold the corner in place whilst fitting the opposite one.
I wasn't really expecting to notice a lot of difference when getting into bed but I was pleasantly surprised at just how comfortable it was. I could feel the soft quilting underneath my sheet and it certainly does make your bed more comfortable to lie upon.
It doesn't really seem to flatten either whilst you are lying on it and has remained just as comfortable over the months I have been using it. I remove it regularly for washing and pop it in my washing machine on a 40 degree wash. It washes well and hasn't lost any of its softness, with the slight quilting remaining soft and springy.
The only problem I have had with my mattress protector after a few months of use is it has started coming away in one of the corners and I think this is because of having to stretch it over the final corners of the mattress when fitting it. Maybe if it had been just slightly bigger then this may not have happened. Having said that, the material on the 'skirt' part of the protector is quite thin, so maybe if they had made this a little thicker then it would prevent the material fraying or coming apart.
Although it is coming away in one corner, it still fits on the bed and I am still able to use my mattress protector the same as usual. It hasn't began moving or bunching up, although I have found each day when I make my bed I have to pull it securely over the corner again where the material is coming away, as it is showing signs of slipping off the mattress due to it becoming loose, which is of course because of the material coming apart.
Overall, for the price paid I can't really complain about this mattress protector. It is certainly comfortable to lie upon and I instantly noticed the difference as I got into bed after first placing it on the mattress. I do think however, that the material around the corners where you fit it on to your mattress should be stronger, either that or maybe make the protector slightly larger so you don't have to pull as tightly to secure it on your mattress.
The mattress protector is available from branches of Sainsburys and online directly from their website. It comes in three sizes to fit single, double and king size beds and is priced accordingly at £6, £7 and £8.
